Goodbyes
TSA airplane security wouldn't let me and the rest of the medical staff past security. Having to say goodbye to these guys was hopefully going to be the hardest part of this year. So Geno and I are the first ones waiting at the security lines. I looked at him and said
"I am going to need a smoke after this."
He looked puzzled and said
"What?"
I started to laugh and said
"A cigarette."
He looked with a disapproving look and said
"No smokes."
I crinkled my nose at him to stop the tears that I knew would come eventually. Just Not Now. He tapped my nose and said
"what's the face for?"
I shrugged my shoulders. The rest of... everyone came around the same time. Coach said
"Okay boys, time to say bye to everyone."
Holding in the tears I looked up at each one of the boys one-by-one saying our goodbyes and I love yous. Each time being harder than the last. As soon as the last person, tanger, got into the line for the TSA person. Geno turned around and said
"Lyss don't forget to put the last load of laundry in."
Everyone started to laugh and I gave him the thumbs up. They turned around and knowing that I could not hold in the tears in any longer turned to face the exit sat on the ground and started to cry my eyes out. John, my boss, tries to get me to stop crying. But nothing could ever fill the void of basically what feels like a newborn being ripped away from their family. I know, a little dramatic but these people are the only ones who have ever cared about me since my friend, RaChell. I saw someone's hands in front of me I looked up to see Letang he motioned for me to use his hand to help get up. As soon as I got up we hugged and he said
"We are only a phone call away."
I said
"But what if something happened to you guys. Something bad always happens to the people I love."
I felt him start to smile and he said
"Are you kidding me? My fiance isn't lucky enough to have all that money to herself."
I laughed and he said
"Don't tell her I said that."
"What am I going to do while you guys are gone?"
"Well, you can start with laundry, I am sure Alex (Kris's son) wouldn't mind a play date, and then after that you can start doing what your supposed to do, which is something new."
I laughed and said
"I am going to miss you."
"I am going to miss you too. When you miss me just call and I will call you back as soon as I or one of the guys can okay?"
I nodded and he said
"I love you."
I said
"I love you too."
Just like that they where gone.
