her & him

There are some things you can't get yourself out of, no matter how hard you fight. I never meant to fall for him, and he surely didn't mean to fall for me. But, when we met, the star had already fallen into place.

"I'm sorry," I tell him softly, just as they roll him back into the operating room. "I'm so sorry." I knew his heart wasn't the best; I had seen him take medicine for it. I knew that he grew attached quickly from how fast we had become close friends. But, I never realized love was going to play a part in this, and how fragile it would make us both.

"I love you," I say. He gives me a weak smile, and I can already tell he's going under from the sleeping drug.

"I know."

And the doors close behind him. This may be the last time we speak, and spend a night under the stars.
