Just A Mistake

It was a mistake. That's what he told her.
"Are you in love with her?" she asked him.
"No. Of course not." His eyes looked honest.
"Why would you do it?"

He didn't have an answer. He looked to the floor, the ceiling, finally in her eyes.

"I don't know. It was a mistake. I wish I could take it back.'
Tears streamed from her eyes. "Do you mean that?"
'Yes. I do."
"Okay. You're on probation though, if you ever do anything like this again…" she warned him.
"I won't. I promise." he told her.
"Don't promise me anything."
