Chapter 4

Surprisingly school went by pretty fast. It was about 3:30 when we actually left the school though. Gerard couldn't find his car and Jamia and I sat on the curb as the boys looked for it.
Gerard drove us to his house blasting Green Day through the speakers. I looked up at the little house. It was made of brick and even on the outside it looked homey. We walked into the house and Gerard took a detour to the kitchen ,pulling me with him.

" Ma, this is Cherry." He explained to an older blond woman. She turned and smiled warmly at me.

She pushed out a hand and I shook it politely.

"I'm Donna." She introduced herself. I smiled and nodded.

Gerard wrapped his hand around my wrist and led me away from his mother shouting that we would be in the basement.

"She likes you." I smiled happy that I wasn't going to be hated by parents like I was in Seattle.

The basement door was open and I saw Frank and Ray tuning their guitars. Mikey was strumming his bass and Matt was texting someone. Gerard clapped his hand and the boys all snapped to attention and got in their positions to play the first song.

Gerard belted the lyrics.

You're not in this alone
Let me break this awkward silence
Let me go, go on record
Be the first to say I'm sorry
Hear me out,
Well if you take me down
Or would you lay me out
And if the world needs something better
Let's give them one more reason now

We walk in single file
We light up rails and punch our time
Ride escalators colder than a cell

[Chorus]
This broken city sky like
butane on my skin
and stolen from my eyes
Hello Angel, tell me where are you
Tell me where we go from here
[Repeat]

And in this moment we can't close the lids on burning eyes
Our memories blanket us with friends we know like fallout vapor
Steel corpses stretch out towards and ending sun scorched and black
It reaches in and tears your flesh apart
As ice cold hands rip into your heart

That's if you've still got one that's left inside that cave you call a chest
And after seeing what we saw, can we still proclaim our innocence
And if the world needs something better, let's give them one more reason now.

I was in aw.

"What's the name?"

"Skylines and Turnstiles"
