Human After All

eyes that didn't mean a thing

Her eyes were dark and from afar they were darker. Everyone said they were black and teased her about her vampire eyes. When she was younger she hated them. She wanted pretty blue eyes to go with the pink and blue polka-dotted bow she wore in her hair. Her mother told her they were beautiful and even more pretty than blue eyes, but she didn't believe her because mom's have to tell their daughter's they're beautiful. It's a rule.
Then when she went through her phase in eighth grade when all the wore was black, she loved them, because they 'fit her personality.' Her friends, who were also in their all black phase, were jealous and despised their blue and green eyes.
Once she was back to a wardrobe of more than one color, she decided that she liked her eyes. She liked how dark they were and the mysterious look they gave her. She was only 15, and she wanted boys, no, men, to look at her and say to themselves: Those eyes mean trouble, but God she's worth it.

No one ever did say that, because she wasn't worth it, not in the slightest.
