‹ Prequel: Tell Me Where's My Hollywood Ending?
I've Been Waiting to Smile
Chapter One
I sat in the stiff chair of a waiting room nervously tapping my foot. My name had not yet been called and to say I was nervous was an understatement. My palms were sweaty and I had tried to stand up and pace but my knees were limp as the ramen I ate the night before. A hand reached over and steadied my knee, I turned to look at the owner. The boy man with chestnut brown hair, and gorgeous hazel eyes stared at me sypathetically.
“It’s going to be okay,” James said. I gave him a helpless look. “But what if it isn’t? What if it all goes wrong? What if I’m not good at it?” I said. Shooting of one ‘What if’ after another. James leaned in and pressed his lips against mine, a bit of a dangerous habit he had picked up over the summer whenever I had started to freak out and rambled on. He pulled away from me and gave my knee a squeeze.
“You’ll be great,” he told me.
I nodded. He put an arm around my shoulders and pulled me to lean in to him. It wasn’t too long before a woman walked out and looked at her clipboard before calling my name. I looked at James one last time, he nudge me toward the lady and the room and told me he would be waiting for me when I got out. I followed the lady in, slightly stumbling in my wedged boots. The woman didn’t notice though, she just got behind the camera and told me to stand on the mark on the floor and to read my lines while she would read the other characters. I took a deep breath and walked over to the mark.
“Do you have any other of his drawing of this woman? No he took them all with him when he left.” the woman read emotionlessly.
“You might want to check the portfolio with his application for Barker,” I said, melancholic but helpful. “All the work he cared about he put in there.”
We did a few other lines. It wasn’t a part for a big character, she just had 3 lines the whole episode. The woman asked if I could cry at all for her and I did. After I handed her my acting resume full of basically Big Time Rush music videos and a few commericals I had done over the summer she told me that I would hear from her after three. I nodded and thanked her for her time and left.

James and I were now waiting in my new apartment. He was sat on the couch staring at my phone on the table meanwhile I was pacing back an forth in the middle of the living room rug. James looked at his watch and then starting keeping an eye on me as I paced.
“You know if you pace a hole through that rug Neche’s gonna get pissed,” he told me. I stopped in my tracks and looked at him wide eyed. Why would he mention that to me, it only made me more nervous. “I was joking, I’m pretty sure she hates that rug anyway.. but just.. come sit down.”
“How are you so calm through this?” I asked. He sat there and thought for a second. “Well for one, it’s not my new found dream, and two I believe you’re great at acting,” he told me. I looked down at my feet for a moment moving the toe of my boots on the wood flooring before looking back up at James.
“You really think so?” I asked. He nodded as he grabbed my hand to pull me down next to him on the couch. “You’re going to move on sooner or later to do great things,” he told me as he wrapped one arm around my waist. “But you have to believe in yourself a bit more and be confident about your Role choices and stuff.”
“Don’t you think they should’ve called by now, though?” I asked, just as I finished my sentence my cell phone sitting on the table rang. My breath got stuck in my chest as I looked from my phone to James. He motioned for me to answer it. I grabbed my phone. “Hello?”
“Hello is this Caitlyn Roberts?” A voice on the other end of the line asked. I nodded before realizing that they couldn’t not hear that. “Yea- Yes, this is Caitlyn,” I said quickly.
“I am calling to let you know,” the voice said. “That you got the part of Rosie Freeman.” “Oh my gosh really? Th-That’s great!” I said.
The woman told me when filming would begin and what time I was expected to be there and which lot I was to go to. I wrote it all down and thanked her again before hanging up the phone. James was staring at me, until my excitement bubbled over and I screamed happily about how I had gotten the part. He hugged me, tackling me down onto the couch. I wrapped my arms around him and held him tightly. I heard the door open as Neche arrived home, along with an extra pair of footsteps behind her.
“Oh my god you two,” she said as she walked through. I looked over to see Kendall holding on to her hand as he trailed just behind her. “Get a room.”
“I.. ugh..” I pushed James off me. “I got a part in a tv show!”
After asking me a few questions like what was the character, what show, and things of that sort they both congratulated me and gave me a hug. Then they scurried off to Neche’s room, probably to make out. James walked over to me and intertwined our fingers. He leaned down just enough for our noses to touch. I smiled.
“I think this calls for a celebration,” he said. “What do you have in mind?” I asked. He just leaned down a bit more to connect our lips and he kissed me. Once the kiss was broken I took his hand and dragged him to my new bedroom where we continued this make out session.
James and I weren’t dating, we had made that clear with each other that we didn’t want to date because we liked being friends with one another and didn’t want to ruin that friendship, but over the summer something had just happened. James started to get into that dangerous habit of kissing me when I was freaking out or rambling, and holding my hands, and once before this time we had another make out session. I don’t know what it was, if I was stupid I would probably blame it on hormones. I knew better than that though. I had a feeling inside me it wasn’t that.
Maybe it was that since Logan had kissed me I kissed Logan again, I had been avoiding him like it was my job. Aside from hanging out with the guys over the summer for music video shoots I didn’t talk to Logan. I had felt so bad and guilty for kissing him because he had been my sister’s boyfriend for years before I moved here, regardless if they were on and off. There was just something about Camille moving and then Logan and I dating immediately that wasn’t right.
As for James, I mean, lots of people thought we were hooking up with each other already anyways. Plus, in my time avoiding Logan, James would tend to come over to hang out with me and check on me once I moved in with Neche. One day when we were hanging out in my room he had just kissed me for no reason and we just went with it? I don’t really understand how we got to where we were. We just didn’t see anything wrong with holding hands or occasionally giving each other a peck on the cheek. That stuff was platonic.
I’ll be the first person in line to admit that James is attractive, but I’m not attracted to him in that way. He’s the same way about me. It’s another reason we decided not to date. Though he did offer once to take me out to dinner as a publicity stunt if I ever wanted. It never happened though.
By the end of our make out session we realized it was five. We ordered a pizza, ate it in our my room, while watching the Rocky Horror Picture Show as put on by me, and then fell asleep. All snuggled up and intertwined with my best friend.
“It’s going to be okay,” James said. I gave him a helpless look. “But what if it isn’t? What if it all goes wrong? What if I’m not good at it?” I said. Shooting of one ‘What if’ after another.
