Trust Me

Chapter Two

"Daddy, stop! The car! Daddy!" I heard myself scream, as my father collided with the pavement the deafening clunks of his skull hitting the concrete. The birthday cake landed immediately after, and at the same time, the red van that had hit my dad drove away without stopping to see if he was okay. I ran across to my daddy, who was still conscious, but blood was beginning to spill from his lips.
"Happy Birthday sugar, I love you lots." His eyelids fluttered closed, and I knew then, there was no way he was coming back. No screams or fighting would bring him back to life. But I screamed anyhow.
