Jodi Ellis

01:51 AM

I don’t remember how long I had been running, how far. I felt dried tears on my face, the blood still on my hands. The image haunted my mind, making me lose focus of where I was walking. I heard a car horn, headlights coming towards me. I couldn’t move. Maybe being hit would take the image away.

“Excuse me, are you okay?” A voice was talking to me, a male voice. The car didn’t hit me. I looked into brown eyes. There was a hand on my arm, holding me up. Could he see the blood? Could he hear my heart beat faster than it ever has before? “Hey, hey, hey, you’re okay, you’re okay.” He had a soothing voice.

I felt myself be lowered down, sitting inside the car. My hands touched the cold seat, closing my eyes to stop the tears bursting out. “What’s your name?” There it was again, the soothing voice.

“Jodi, Jodi Ellis,” I croaked out, opening my eyes. He was sitting in the driver’s seat, his hands gripping the steering wheel. Now he could see the blood. “Get me out of here, please.”

“It’s okay, Jodi, you’re safe, you’re okay.” But I was far from okay.
