The Prince and the Thief

Chapter 10

I was staring at the purple-ish liquid in the cup I have in my hands. My father would never allow me to drink alcohol. He said I didn't deserve it. Wine was a celebratory drink and I didn't have a reason to celebrate. I glanced at Vic who was leaning over to talk to Anciano. Maybe now I do. I mean there is this amazing guy in front of me that is so handsome and sweet and for some reason, he likes me. I caught Vic's eye causing me to quickly look down at my drink with a blush. I felt his hand on my lower back.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" I chose not to answer him. "Have you tried it?" I shook my head. I was kind of nervous. What if I didn't like it and Vic laughed at me?
"Do it taste good?" I watched him make a weird face.
"It's not like chocolate I'll tell you that much." I sighed. I raised the cup to my lips, taking a big gulp, and I immediately started coughing. It had a sweetness but there was a kick of something sour. Vic rubbed his hand up and down my back. I noticed he had an amused smile but otherwise he didn't laugh. "You get use to it."
"I bet. It's weird." Someone poured more wine in my cup. It was Rankè flashing me a weird smile.
"Drink up." I watched as she poured more for someone else too. I guess that makes it safe enough to drink. It was about an hour later and I had lost count how many times my drink had been refilled. It made my head dizzy. It also gave me a warm, free feeling.
"Kellin!" Mika ran up to me, pulling me towards the exit. I look back at Vic for help. He only shrugged with that stupidly handsome smile on his face. Mika pulled me to a big fire that people were fluidly dancing around.
"Oh no way." She clapped her hands together and started begging. "Mika. I can't dance."
"By the amount of wine you drank, it doesn't matter. Even those who've been drinking for years are knocked off their feet." I pushed away her hands.
"No."
"Come on Kellin. I'll teach you." I wasn't able to protest as she dragged me to where the people were now dancing with partners. I don't even know what she was making me do. We were just spinning around and around and around.
"Mika, we have to stop." I pulled out of the little girl's tight grip. I moved out of the way of all the other people who were dancing. How could people think they were savage? I've been living with them for what seems like forever. Sure they have to kill a few people but I see it as selfdefense. I bet gypsies and the people in Arayldan could get along perfectly if it wasn't for my father planting lies in their heads. Remind myself not to drink. I think to weirdly.
I spotted Vic leaning up against a tree talking to Marike. He always seemed so calm and collected. He took a sip of his drink, looking over the rim of the cup at me. I felt my face get warm. It was different the way he looked at me compared to everyone else. I began panicking when he came to sit next to me. I don't know what was wrong with me. I sleep in the same tiny room with him. This is practically nothing. I know he wouldn't do anything in front of everyone. We would be separated. Maybe that's why I'm scared. My mind is telling me right now to kiss Vic and I can feel my body trying to obey.
"What's up?" I glanced up at the dark night sky.
"Stars." He laughed. Oh that laugh. I bit my lip.
"I meant why are you acting so weird?"
"Weird?" I scoffed. "Why would I be acting weird? I'm not acting weird." My voice became higher as I continued to talk. He raised one of his eyebrows. Way to go Kellin. That just made it ten times more obvious that you're not yourself right now. "I mean I may be acting weird but it's because I'm really trying not to kiss you. Shit." I covered my mouth. He nodded slowly, taking another drink.
"I see you're a loose lipped drunk."
"I'm not drunk." He chuckled.
"Whatever you say miere." I shoved him lightly.
"Stop calling me names." I tried to stand up but I just ended up stumbling into Vic's arms. He rolled his eyes.
"Come on. Time to sleep." He hooked his arms under my knees while the other went around my back to keep me from falling. When we were far enough from the rest of the people, I pushed out of his arms.
"I can walk." He smirked.
"Then walk in a straight line." I tried to do as he said. I almost tripped and landed on the ground but Vic caught me before I fell.
"Show off." He rolled his eyes again. He didn't seem annoyed though. He actually seemed like he was having a lot of fun. I turned in his arms. "You're cute."
"Really?"
"Yes." He didn't say anything until we got to the door of the caravan. I didn't even hear what he was saying. I just backed against the wall, watching his lips move. I could feel my heart pounding against my ribs. I put my hand on the back of his neck and pulled him into a kiss that made him stop mid sentence. I felt his finger brush lightly against my cheek as he rested his hand there. He moved his lips away from mine.
"No Kell. Someone could see us."
"Then take me somewhere where no one will see us." I smiled when I noticed his cheeks go red. I made him blush. He cleared his throat, looking away from me.
"Go to bed."
"Come with me." I tired to say it as seductively as possible. I wasn't really good at this kind of stuff. I guess being a little tipsy gave me the confidence to take charge. I pulled him up the small steps and through the door into the caravan. I brought our lips back together as he pushed my back against one of the walls. He pulled away to look in my eyes. My heart picked up speed again. "I-I-I love you." He brushed the tips of our noses together.
"I love you too. Te amo más que probablemente debería." I became really confused.
"What?" He smiled.
"Never mind. Let's get you to bed." I ran over to his bed, hiding under the covers. "Get up."
"Nope."
"Kellin." He had a warning tone but it still had a teasing hint to it. I was laying on my back when he pulled off the covers. I grinned at him, squinting my eyes. The corner of his lips where twitching. He was trying not to smile back at me.
"Sleep with me." I made grabby hands in his direction. He blew out the lantern and placed himself next to me. His arms immediately pulled me closer. I kissed his neck, feeling him shudder.
"Go to sleep Cariño."
"But I'm not tired." I whined. I wish I could see that wonderful smile that came with his laugh. It's so dark in here.
"I'm not doing anything to you while you've been drinking. I will not take advantage of you." I trailed my hand down his chest.
"So just kiss me." He hummed.
"I think that can be arranged." I giggled as he pulled me into a soft kiss. Maybe wine isn't that bad.
