Life After Death
Chapter 3
Johnny woke the next morning. Trying to tell himself that what he saw last night was a dream or his imagination. But he knew it wasn't.
Everytime he closed his eyes or looked at the balcony he could see the woman standing there with that sad look in her eyes before falling.
He got up looking at the balcony before hitting the shower.
Johnny wasn't a believer in the paranormal or the supernatural. But what he saw last night was definitely making him rethink his beliefs.
After dressing he went downstairs to the front desk where Bernard sat reading the newspaper.
"Hey Bernard." Johnny said.
"Good Morning Johnny." Bernard said looking up. "Had a good night sleep?"
"Not exactly." Johnny said. "Bernard is this hotel haunted?"
The color drained from Bernards face and his eyes widen.
"You saw her didn't you?" Bernard asked.
"If you're talking about a woman blonde and beautiful on the balcony then yes." Johnny said.
"I'm sorry I put you in that room Johnny." Bernard said. "You're not the first guest to see her."
"Who is she?" Johnny asked.
"Her name is Lydia Foster." Bernard said. "She was a singer here at the hotel during the 1940s."
"What's she doing on the balcony?" Johnny asked.
"Johnny, Lydia was mudered." Bernard whispered.
Johnnys eyes widen.
"Her murder was never solved." Bernard continued. "And you know the age old story a ghost that's been murdered can't move on to the afterlife until their murder is solved."
"That's impossible now Bernard." Johnny said. "If she was murdered in the 1940s her murderer is long dead."
"I know but apparently that doesn't matter to her." Bernard said. "She can't go on till it's solved then she'll finally be at piece."
"Has anyone tried to talk to her?" Johnny asked.
"No most guests are understandably scared of seeing a ghost and they run." Bernard said.
Johnny nodded thinking.
"I'll see you later Bernard." Johnny said walking out the hotel and to his car.
As he got in he looked back at the balcony before getting in.
Johnny drove to a cafe getting a cup of coffee and a cinnamon roll.
After eating he drove to the city library to do some research. He typed in Lydia Foster.
"Lydia Foster was a young scarlet who was rising to fame in the 1940s." "She was a frequent singer at The Chelsea Hotel." "Everyone spoke highly of her and her performances." "Her young life and career was cut short at the age of 22." "Foster was thrown from the balcony of Room 1612 by an unknown assailant. "Her murder remains officialy unsolved."
Johnny felt pity tug at his heart. Dying so young not really getting to live your life.
He then typed in Lydia Fosters ghost.
"There have been numerous sightings and encounters with the ghost of murdered starlet Lydia Foster." "Guests have claimed to see Fosters ghost on the balcony turning to give them a look before falling over the balcony."
Johnny then typed in is it possible for the living to communicate with the dead.
"It's possible for the living and dead to communicate." "All the living has to do is listen."
With this information Johnny left the library and past more time by driving around and looking at the sights. He arrived back at the hotel at 8:35.
After greeting Bernard. Johnny went to his room, showered, and sat in the chair waiting for her to appear.
Johnny woke up feeling the familiar chill. He looked at the clock it read 10:14. He got up.
"Lydia Foster I know you're here." Johnny said. "I know what happened to you and I want to help you."
Johnny felt the chill right on his back making the hair on his neck stand up.
He turned and found himself face to face with the ghost of Lydia Foster.
