We’ll Be Young Forever

Three.

Kellin couldn't be more thankful for that amazing summer he spent with Vic and his friends. It was weird at the beginning but as time passed by, Tony and Jaime found a liking towards the younger boy and even invited him to sleepovers.

They had became friends so fast and easy, Kellin's parents were happy he had a couple of friends back in California, although there was no such luck in Michigan. The only child he would talk to and hang around was his sister and even when they tried not to make a big deal out of it, they knew that would eventually affect the pale boy. It didn't help he was smaller than children his age.

A couple of months passed by and it was finally winter, signaling it was time for the Fuentes to visit the cold state across the country and both boys were extremely excited.

Kellin couldn't help but feel relief when he saw his best friend get down the car, running straight into the slightly taller boy's arms, who held him with the same amount of force.

"I've missed you." Kellin mumbled, still against his best friend's jacket.

Vic sighed and placed his head on top of his best friend's blond hair. "I've missed you too Kels." He shuddered when a small gust of wind hit his uncovered neck, making the youngest giggle.

"Let's go inside." Kellin said looking straight into Vic's eyes. "The fireplace is on." He squealed and grabbed the oldest boy's hand in his own, running inside the warm house and instantly discarding his jacket.

The adults watched as both boys sat in front of the small fireplace, the huge Christmas tree just a few feet away from them as they chatted away. Kellin's blue eyes lit up when Vic mentioned Jaime and Tony and how they sent their hello's to him. He couldn't believe they had truly liked him and he was eager for next summer to come so he could visit them.

Lisa was glad her son had someone to rely on whenever he felt sad and wouldn't talk to anybody else, and it was even better that little someone was her best friend's son.

Mike and Kailey had been sleeping since the Fuentes had arrived to the Bostwick's household that afternoon but as soon as they woke up, the joined Vic and Kellin downstairs playing board games and watching Christmas movies while drinking hot chocolate when they got bored.

At eleven pm, both mothers came downstairs to bring their children to their room, but Kellin and Vic refused.

"No. I'm not going to bed." Kellin pouted, little arms crossed over his chest and big blue eyes on his mom, who had her hands on her hips.

"I'm not going to argue with you." Lisa glared at her son, her right finger pointing towards the stairs. "Go to your room, now."

Little Kellin’s bottom lip quivered and the boy instantly bursted in tears at his mother’s harsh tone. He turned to Vic and hid his face in his best friend's chest, who was sitting there awkwardly rubbing his hand in circles on the younger's back to try to soothe him.

"It's okay Kels, let's go to bed." Vic said loud enough for their moms to hear, then leaned down on his best friend's ear. "We'll come downstairs to wait for Santa when they're asleep."

"Ok." Kellin whispered with a small smile on his lips, eyes still red from the crying.

Both boys stood up from their place, Vivian kissing Vic's cheek before both kids went upstairs to Kellin's room, the same he had slept in since the day he was born and where little Vic had seen him for the very first time.

The only difference was the crib. It had been replaced with a bunk bed covered by matching navy blue comforters and slightly clearer pillows. Kellin felt safer on the upper bed, so that was where he slept.

The youngest instantly climbed to his bed and buried his head into the pillow, his blue eyes staring at Vic who was sitting on the floor next to his suitcase, taking out his pijamas.

Once Vic was done, he looked up, meeting Kellin's sleepy blue eyes and smiled. "Let's get changed, Kels."

Kellin groaned and buried himself deeper in the bed, trying to block out his best friend's voice. "Don't want to." He mumbled, words getting muffled against the fabric.

Vic chuckled and got changed. When he was done, he climbed to his best friends bed and began tickling him.

"No, Vic." Fists of laughter left Kellin's mouth while he gasped for air. "Get off me." He screeched, tears forming in his eyes.

"Not until you agree to change." Vic smirked, his fingers still ticking his best friend's sides.

The younger squirmed under Vic's hold trying to break free but failing miserably and he had no choice but to give in. "O-okay." He giggled. "Please let me go."

Vic laughed with victory and removed himself from his best friend, letting Kellin gasp for the much needed air, a huge smile on his face still.

Vic sat on the other side of the bed, supervising that his best friend indeed changed into his pijamas. Kellin instantly lift his pillow and took out his sleeping pants and shirt, wasting no time on lifting the shirt he was wearing over his head and throwing the other shirt on. It was really cold that night and even that little contact with the cold had arisen goosebumps on his pale skin.

He didn’t care about changing clothes in front of Vic, there weren't any secrets between them and there was nothing to be ashamed of.

"What do we do now, Vic?" Kellin asked after sitting face to face to his best friend, who shrugged.

"Don't know." Vic mumbled, following the patterns on his his pijama with his index finger. "We have to wait a little bit longer so we can go downstairs"

Kellin settled for nodding and let himself fall backwards, staring at the ceiling wondering if Santa really looked like people said. What if he was skinny instead of fat? There's no other way he could fit through the chimney being that big.

"What are you thinking so hard of?" Vic asked staring down at Kellin and drawing his best friend's frown with his finger, feeling the smooth skin slide beneath it.

"Santa." The youngest answered nonchalantly.

"Oh." Vic answered and layed down next to the small boy, who instantly cuddled up to his side sighing in content.

About half an hour later Kellin’s bedroom door was being cracked open, Vic’s brunette hair peeking out and looking on either sides of the hall to see if there were any lights on and a mischievous smile made its way to his lips when he realized they were the only ones up. Giving his best friend a thumbs up to let him know it was okay to come out, both boys tiptoed down the stairs.

Kellin was dragging a small warm blanket in case either of them got cold, he knew Vic would be the one asking for it since his family and him weren’t used to that kind of weather and he wasn’t wrong.

Since the fireplace was barely on, both boys went to sit on the sofa, Kellin instantly curling against Vic's side and the oldest tightening his arms around the the blue eyed boy; blanket placed on top of their small bodies and warming them as much as it could while white snowflakes fell outside.

It was a really adorable scene to watch both boys on the couch waiting for the big old fat man with red suit and white hair to match. To say they were excited was an understatement.

"Do you think he will come, Vic?" Kellin asked, his head resting on his best friend's shoulder.

"Yes, he has to." The oldest answered, gaze fixated on the plate with cookies and cup of hot chocolate they left earlier before their moms forced them to go upstairs.

Suddenly feeling a bit sleepy, Kellin closed his eyes and in less than five minutes his breathing had evened, signaling the oldest his best friend had fallen asleep and he couldn't blame him. Looking up at the clock in the wall, he realized it was almost one am.

Determined to watch the old wrinkled man, Vic turned his face to the tree again, refusing to close his eyes but about half an hour later, his eyelids closed and he fell asleep with his head on top of the blond mop of hair belonging to Kellin.

The very next morning, both boys were woken up by loud screeching from their youngest siblings. Stirring and opening their eyes, Kellin and Vic were met by Mike and Kailey running as fast as their little feet allowed them to the tree and looking over the presents placed at its feet while their parents looked after them from the dining table drinking a hot cup of coffee each.

"We fell asleep." Kellin mumbled with a frown on his face, something he seemed to do very often.

"I know." The oldest sighed, squeezing his best friend's shoulder. "Next year we will catch him, don't worry."

Kellin was about to answer but he was interrupted by his little sister.

"Kell-Kell!" She said running with a big wrapped box in her hands towards their place on the couch. "Mikey says this is for you."

The blue eyed boy took the present out of his sisters hand before the little girl ran back to the tree to keep looking for her own presents.

Ripping the paper as gently as he could but failing miserably and letting the paper fall to floor right in front of their feet, Kellin opened his very first present.

His mouth fell open when he saw the huge box belonged to a Buzz Lightyear action figure, much like the one in the movie and he couldn't help but rip the envelope open and take out the figure. Both boys were observing the figure closely and picking all its buttons when Vic's mom caught their attention.

"Vic, go check under the tree, there must be something for you there." Vivian said with a small smile, her husband rubbing his hand up and down her arm to try and warm her up.

Reluctantly, the brown eyed boy stood from the couch and went to sit next to his brother who was ripping another present open. Tearing his gaze away from Mike, a red shinny present caught Vic's eye. Reaching down for it, he was glad when he read his name on the little card glued to it.

Wasting no time on opening it, he tore the envelope paper open and he was caught by surprise when a pair of plastic eyes stared right at him. Woody's brown eyes to be precise. Grinning so hard his cheeks were hurting; he took the figure out of the box and ran back to his place next to Kellin, who had looked the scene right from that very spot.

Laughing and looking at their new presents, both boys played the rest of the day with their matching toys under their parents watchful eyes; enjoying each other's company as usual.
