We’ll Be Young Forever

Eight.

"Come on, Kels!" Vic screamed from the other side of the park all the boys were standing at, expecting the twelve year old to roll on a skateboard.

Kellin shouldn't be afraid of skating at that age but he was and he couldn't help it. The fall wouldn’t be that hard if his feet indeed failed him, but he was really frightened nonetheless, and although Vic had never failed his word and always been there to protect him like he promised almost five years ago; he couldn't help but feel uneasiness.

What if he fell and landed badly, breaking his arm? He couldn't stand pain and it frightened him to no end but deciding he didn’t want to be called a chicken, he sighed and placed his right foot on top of the skateboard while the left one impulsed him; starting with small steps and moving forward with certain hesitation. His eyes wouldn’t leave the floor, paying attention to what he was doing and so far, he was glad of his achievement.

Deciding it would be good to look at Vic while he rolled on the skateboard, Kellin lift up his eyes; brown eyes meeting his blue ones and a huge smile stretching on Vic’s tanned face. Kellin couldn’t help but feel his cheeks heat up and a strange fluttering feeling in his stomach whenever Vic looked at him. He didn’t know what it was, but ever since that afternoon when they were cuddling in Vic’s room, Kellin couldn’t help but find himself feeling that strange sensation at the bottom of his belly.

Getting lost in thought, he didn’t pay much attention to what he was doing and eventually lost control of the skateboard, tumbling on top of it before falling on his back and groaning in pain. He lay there under the sun ray, staring up at the cloudless sky while he breathed in and out, trying to diminish the burning sensation in his eyes. He shouldn’t cry, he wasn’t a baby anymore.

“Oh my god, Kels!” Vic ran instantly after seeing the youngest fall; Jaime, Tony and Mike trailing behind him. “Are you ok?” He asked once he was kneeling right next to the blue eyed boy, who grimacing managed to sit up.

“I’m fine.” Kellin answered in a small voice, staring down at his fingers while trying to hide his embarrassment. He must've had looked like a fool and that thought alone made his throat close in, making it hard to breathe.

Vic caught up on that immediately, pulling the youngest in a tight embrace and Kellin wasted no time on burying his head in the crook of Vic's neck, his slim long fingers curling on the mexican’s shirt while the familiar scent his best friend emanated calmed him down somehow.

"It's okay, Kels." Vic soothed, a comforting hand going up and down the youngest's spine. The oldest caught on how that simple gesture made the blue eyed boy calm since he was a baby and that hadn't changed at all.

With Kellin slightly calmer, he pushed away from Vic's embrace, his cheeks slightly flushed still and messy raven hair. His blue eyes looked up to meet his best friend's brown eyes, smiling lightly before deciding to get up.

Vic didn't waste time scrambling on his feet, holding a hand out to help Kellin up; a small blush adorning the raven haired boy's pale cheeks and Vic thought it was the most adorable thing ever.

Looking away from Vic's eyes, Kellin moved his gaze down to his jeans and brushed off any traces of dirt and it was until then that he felt his left elbow burning. Carefully, the pale boy brought his arm close to his face and he noticed then the scraped skin, which was bleeding poorly.

“I think we should head home and had that cleaned up.” Mike suggested while Vic inspected his best friend’s elbow with a frown etched on his face. “It’s getting late anyway.” Sighing, the oldest mexican nodded and guided the way back to the bus stop while Tony ran back and grabbed his skateboard.

While Mike, Tony and Jaime chatted among each other; Vic and Kellin stood behind, the youngest leaning against Vic’s shoulder while the mexican’s arm circled his waist. It was a peaceful moment, the blue eyed boy darting his gaze in the park just across the street; admiring the way the leaves rustled with the wind and loving the way summer air surrounded him. How he liked California's summer air in comparison to Michigan's.

Michigan was hot and sticky during summer, the clothes clinging in the most uncomfortable way to one's skin due the humid air surrounding the place. It was gross, really. And because of that, Kellin was thankful to get the chance to leave during summer. He was grateful for every single memory he had with the Fuentes, specially Vic.

Suddenly the arm on his waist weighed a ton. With a huge smile across his face and a deep blush covering his cheeks, Kellin dared to look up; coming in contact with Vic's face while he looked out for any signs of the bus, oblivious to the fact he was being watched. And it was until then that Kellin noticed how long Vic's eyelashes were and despite how bushy his eyebrows were too; they suited his tan skin and brown colored eyes, which had small glints of gold in them. He was truly breathtaking.

And that mere thought had Kellin conflicted. He knew shouldn't be thinking about his best friend like that, he was supposed to like girls and find them attractive but that was not the case.

While the rest of the guys back home, such as Jesse, Jack, Justin and Gabe swooned over girls walking by and talked about who was hot and who wasn’t, Kellin often found himself not paying attention and daydreaming about his best friend instead. He loved being wraped in Vic's arms and how safe that made him feel, but that confused him.

Sighing, Kellin didn’t even realize the bus parked in front of them and it was until Vic tugged on his hand, that both of them got on the bus. Vic paying for both of them and returning the soft smile to the old man greeted them with.

Moving to the back of the bus, all of the boys were about to sit when they realized there were only four seats available. All of them looked at each other, trying to decide who would sit first but Vic beat them all to it.

"Kellin's small enough to sit on my lap, there's no problem guys." Vic said while allowing Tony, Jaime and Mike to settle on the seats, with a tired Kellin looking at him with those big blue eyes expectantly.

Settling down and making himself a comfortable as he could on the bus seat right next to the window and Mike sitting next to him; Vic tugged on Kellin's hand and guided him to his lap, where the youngest wasted no time on curling against Vic's chest, sighing in content. He was indeed small, so it didn't take much space for him to make himself comfortable.

Tightening his arms around Kellin's waist, Vic lowered his head so he could whisper on his best friend's ear without the other guys listening, and it wasn’t like they were paying attention to them at all since they were being loud and obnoxious, laughing at everything and anything.

"You okay?" Vic whispered lowly, noticing how Kellin's lashes fluttered against his slightly pink cheeks while his blue eyes remained shut and the urge to caress them ignited in him, but he knew he couldn't so he settled for counting the freckles adorning his best friend's nose.

"Yeah, just a little bit tired." Kellin answered with raspy voice while he hid his face deeper into Vic’s chest, clearly indicating he was on his way to fall asleep and it wouldn't take long for that to happen.

"Go to sleep Kels, we have at least forty five minutes 'til we get home. I'll wake you up." Vic whispered, resting his chin on top of the youngest head and sighing, looking out the bus to the passing scenery. And it didn’t take long for the youngest’s breathing to even out.

Vic wasn't oblivious to the need he felt to protect Kellin whenever he was around him or how whenever the youngest smiled, his own heartbeat picked up and he wanted nothing more than hug him, never letting go. But he also knew how he couldn’t bring up those feelings for Kellin yet, he was too young. Being three years older, Vic knew he wasn’t into girls at all. Of course he had tried to date at school but none of them caught his attention enough. Not like Kellin anyway. And it was then that he realized he felt something more than friendship towards the youngest male on his arms.

Not realizing when he fell asleep, Vic woke up to small giggles coming from the seats in front of him and shushed voices that sounded a lot like Jaime and Tony’s. He was about to stretch but then he felt the weight on his lap and he remembered who was laying there and was probably completely oblivious to the situation developing.

The oldest managed to open his eyes, blinking a couple of times to focus on his grinning best friends who had their cell phones out pointing on his and Kellin’s direction. He frowned, and he was about ask what was going on when the flash on Jaime’s phone went off and blinded him slightly.

“What the fuck are you guys doing?” Vic asked somehow annoyed, closing and opening his eyes so they would focus again. The couple of friends just laughed loudly while Mike chuckled next to him. “What’s so amusing? What did I miss?” He asked with a frown upon his face, showing confusion at its best.

“Taking pictures of Kellin and you all cozy there. We couldn’t help ourselves.” Jaime answered with a cheeky smile, while Tony nodded in agreement and Vic couldn’t help but feel his cheeks burning up. His friends didn’t know about his little crush on Kellin, let alone his sexuality.

“Shut up.” Vic mumbled while turning to face Mike, who was looking at him with a knowing smile. Yeah, his little brother knew and he was glad he wasn’t judgmental about it. But he knew he had to change the topic. “How far from home are we now?” He asked, looking expectantly at Tony, who looked down at his phone and tapped a couple times on the screen before answering.

“Five minutes tops, we have to get up now if we want to get to our stop.” The whole group nodded and as much as Vic liked the way Kellin’s body moved peacefully while the youngest was curled up in his chest, he had to shake him awake.

“Wake up, Kels. We’re almost home.” He whispered, the youngest groaned in protest but he knew he had to get up eventually. The last thing he wanted was to wander lost around San Diego. “Up.” Vic tapped on youngest’s waist, earning a little squeal coming out of Kellin’s mouth and the mexican couldn’t help but chuckle.

Pouting, Kellin eventually opened his sleepy eyes, immediately meeting Vic’s brown ones and he couldn’t help but feel the heat creeping up his neck and settling down on his cheeks. God, he must’ve looked like a mess so squirming on his place, he decided it might’ve been a good idea to finally stand up, so he did. He walked towards the door of the bus with Vic trailing behind him. Both of them stood behind Tony, Jaime and Mike who were being the usual jerks they were and Kellin couldn’t help but smile widely, remembering when he first met the boys and how nervous he was around them. But although that had changed significantly and he found himself feeling more comfortable, there was always that hint of shyness behind. Not that they minded.

Finally reaching the Fuentes’ household after dropping Tony and Jaime in their respective houses; Kellin and the Fuentes brothers opened the door, being immediately greeted by the smell of food flooding the whole place.

“Ma! We’re home!” Mike yelled before running upstairs and shortly after, Vivian peaked her head out of the kitchen, a soft smile on her lips while Lisa walked out of the small room and went to Kellin, kissing his cheek loudly and earning a playful disgusted face from the boy. She rolled her eyes but smiled nonetheless, ruffling his son’s hair.

“How did it go?” Lisa asked in a happy tone. Kellin shrugged, looking disinterested to whatever was happening around him and it was until he turned around to walk upstairs that she caught a glimpse to Kellin’s injury. “My God, Kellin. What happened?” She asked, rushing to his son’s side and admiring his elbow but the boy shrugged again.

“He fell off the skateboard, he just needs to clean it up and he’ll be fine.” Vic explained, Lisa nodded and went to the bathroom for the first aid kit, returning short after and she went to get the things ready before Vic placed a hand on top of hers. “I can do it, it’s fine.” He smiled sweetly and she sighed, going back to the kitchen to help her best friend with dinner.

“Come on, Kels. Let’s go upstairs and I’ll clean you up in my room.” Vic smiled, taking Kellin’s hand in his and dragging the younger boy upstairs, not giving him another choice.

Once they were in the safety of Vic’s room, Kellin wasted no time and ran to Vic's bed, landing with a small bounce and he couldn’t help the small laugh leaving his pink lips; Vic admiring him from afar and thinking how beautiful he looked, but he snapped out of it and went to sit next to the blue eyed boy, opening the kit and picking out cotton and alcohol as well as a small band-aid.

“Kels.” Vic said taking the blue eyed boy’s arm in his hand and twisting it so he could get a better look at the wound. “This might sting a little but I promise it’ll be over soon, okay?” The mexican warned, a soft smile on his lips that had the youngest relaxing and nodding.

Taking that gesture as a confirmation, Vic placed the cotton ball on the wound and Kellin couldn’t help but flinch, biting down on his bottom lip to prevent any whimpers leaving his mouth. It felt like ages while Vic cleaned the wound but eventually, the oldest placed the band-aid on Kellin’s elbow and kissed it better. The sweet gesture making the blue eyed boy blush.

“Done. Now, what do you want to do?” Vic smiled, putting away the instruments and placing them on his table before scrambling to his bed and laying with stomach down and head to the side, staring right back at Kellin’s wide blue eyes that looked back at him with curiosity and innocence. “Wanna watch a movie?” He asked after the youngest shrugged, the idea making the raven haired boy smile widely and nod his head enthusiastically. Vic laughed and stood up, going to the small table where his TV was placed and looked through the movies placed in a row underneath it. “Is Role Models good?” Vic asked, getting a smile of approval from the boy sitting indian style on top of his bed and he couldn’t help but smile, thinking how adorable Kellin looked.

After placing the CD in the DVD player, he went back to his bed and jumped on it, earning a small squeak escaping Kellin’s lips, who as soon as his best friend was settled, went to lay next to him. Kellin’s head rested on top of Vic’s chest while his blue eyes were trained on the device in front of him; Vic’s hand running up and down his arm absently, arising goosebumps under his touch.
