Audrey's Snow

Audrey's Snow (14) - Harley's POV

Harley's POV

I was eager to get home. Everyone was talking about Audrey today. Most people were happy someone finally hit Janice, which shocked me. Anything Audrey did shocked me.

Kimmy wanted to hang out again after school, and again I made up some lame excuse. I had been doing that a lot lately. I pulled up to the house and killed the engine, hurrying upstairs to see Audrey. Audrey was something else.

Since she got here I had been acting like a complete different person. Kimmy noticed too, she wasn't too happy with me. She thought it was her though which killed me. I loved Kimmy, but I don't think I am in love with her anymore.

"Audrey, you'll-" I swung open Audrey's door to see her laying on her side, completely distant. She was a mess. Her eyes were empty. Mascara ran sideways down her face as though she had been crying in that position for a long time. She didn't even look at me. "Audrey, whats wrong." I said firmly.

I was panicking. She looked so lifeless. I walked over to her and shook her shoulder, noticing how ice cold her skin was. I quickly pulled her out of bed and wrapped my arms around her, hoping I could warm her up.

"Audrey, tell me whats wrong. Please." She opened her mouth. Air just came out.

"I don't feel good." The pain in her voice was palpable. I carried her to the bathroom and turned on the shower. Ignoring the fact that we were both dressed I carried her into the shower. The water should warm her up.

I sat behind her, her back leaned against my chest. Her clothing was completely soaked, as was mine. She just laid there limp, not saying anything more. I was terrified. I gently rubbed hand up and down her arm to comfort her.

"Were going to the doctors." I said, trying to get up. Her fingers quickly tightened around my wrist. I looked down at her. She was looking at me, her eyes were no longer distant. They were terrified. They were scared. They were filled with pain.

I let myself sink back down behind her and kissed the back of her head through her hair. She was no longer freezing, which comforted me.

"Audrey, what happened." She didn't reply. She just slumped against me. I listened to the water. She got up a minute later. She stepped out of the shower, I hurried out behind her. She grabbed a towel and wrapped it around herself silently. The doorbell rang. She went tense.

"Audrey, I'm going to get the door. Put on some warm clothes." She nodded. Although it pained me, I stepped out of the bathroom and closed the door. Ignoring the trail of water I left behind me, I trudged downstairs and opened the door.

A man stood before me. He had grey hair, slicked back. He had bright blue eyes, and a strong jaw. He was wearing a black business suit and looked tired.

"Hey, how can I help you?" I said politely. This guy must be lost.

"Who are you?" The was was confused. I stuck my hand out for him to shake.

"I'm Harley Michaels. And yourself?" He grabbed my hand, shaking it firmly.

"Just call me Gary." I nodded and took my hand back. What was he doing here. His attention turned to something behind me. I turned to see Audrey. She looked terrified. Her normally tan, rosy skin was white.

"Audrey-" Gary said. Did Audrey know him? She cut him off.

"No, I told you to leave me alone Gary." Her voice sounded cold. Cut off, Threatening. I was so confused.

"Audrey this isn't your family!" He yelled. I pushed him back. His attention turned back to me and he narrowed his eyes at me.

"Who do you think you are." I growled. If she didn't want this man near her, I wouldn't let him. What would a man like this want with her anyways?

"I'm her father." He said back harshly. I froze. Her dad left her before she was born. His words set her off, the strong angry Audrey I knew came out.

"You are NOT my father!" She screamed. He turned back to her, and stopped shoving me, trying to get to her.

"Yes I am Audrey. I wont give up on you." He said. She scoffed.

"You wont give up on me? You did that before I was even born. Before you even met me! This is my family." I suppressed a smile. She called this her family. "And this is my home! You are nothing more than the sperm cell that created me." She snapped. Hurt flashed across his eyes, but he covered it quickly.

"You keep thinking that. But every time you look in the mirror and see those blue eyes, you wonder who you got them from." He said. I could tell he was starting to get angry.

I was thankful when I saw Dads truck pulling up. Once he saw me holding a man back from getting into the house, he hurried over.

"Whats going on here?" He was using his booming voice. Gary turned to look at him. Audrey ran past me and past Gary, and straight to my dad. She quickly wrapped her arms around him, burrying her face into his shirt.

"What are you doing with my daughter?" Gary said, I could tell he was keeping his voice strong. If my dad was shocked, he covered it well.

"Actually, there is no dad listed on her birth certificate. So technically you are not her father. I'm going to have to ask you to get the hell off of my property." Gary pulled a card out of his coat and slammed it against my chest. I let it fall to the ground.

"You'll be hearing from my lawyer. Audrey, if you ever want to talk I'll be staying at Embassy Suites in Rogers." He marched away to his black car and drove away. I couldn't help but notice that he was driving a mustang.

"Thanks Kevin." Audrey's voice sounded so small. She looked small tucked into my dads side. We were not a family of small people.

"No problem sweetheart." He said, He kissed the top of her head. Then he turned his attention to me. He looked me up and down, when I remembered I was soaking wet. I shrugged and he rolled his eyes. "Audrey, Harley is going to take you upstairs. Okay?" She nodded and came up to me. She folded herself under my arm, completely ignoring the fact that I was dripping wet.

I walked her upstairs to my room. She quickly curled up on my bed. I smiled, even when I was worried about her I couldn't help but think about how beautiful she was. She was looking up at me.

"Close your eyes." I whispered. She closed her eyes.

I quickly stripped out of my clothes and pulled on a pair of dry boxers. I didn't realize how cold my clothes were until they were off. I pulled on a pair of pajama pants and climbed into bed next to her. I pulled her against my chest and felt her cold arms touch my chest. I pulled away, and noticed her eyes were still closed. Her breathing was even.

I scooped one of my sweat shirts off the floor and put it on her quickly, zipping it up to her collar bones. She snuggled back into my chest. I draped my arm over her and rested my chin on top of her head. I could smell her shampoo.

If only this girl knew what she was doing to me.
