Chapter 1. A Mere Accident

It was just another snowy winter day as I sat in front of the fire place with multiple blankets on me. It was really cold. I was pretty sure I would get sick... again.

My book sat abandoned on top of my lap since I had stopped reading it long ago. I was intensely watching the wood in the fireplace burn as I thought of stupid and useless things like if I should set up the christmas tree early this year. Probably yeah, because I wouldn't have energy for it later on since I would %100 be sick.

My trail of thoughts were interrupted when I heard the loud noise of a car skidding and crashing into something nearby my house.

Quickly wrapping the blanket aroumd my shoulders I got out to see what the hell was going on.

The moment I opened the front door the cold hit my face making me instantly shiver. The next thing that hit me on an instant was the sexy man next to the broken mailbox. Yes, I said broken mailbox. You know, with all the loud noises I heard I was expecting something bigger than a mailbox to be broken.

Ok, back to the sexy man next to the stupid mailbox. The first thing I noticed about him was his firetruck red, shoulder-length hair. He was dressed all in black and his pants were so tight that I was pretty sure I could see the outline of everything he had inside if it wasn't late at night. Another thing that I noticed was his goddamn face. That nose, those eyes they were so beautiful!

The man looked so worried and panicked as he stood between his car and the mailbox. He was opening and closing his mouth like he wanted to say something but nothing came out.

So I walked towards him and thats when he actually started talking or rather... shrieking.

"Oh my god! Look, dude I'm so sorry!"

Surprised from the sudden burst he had I jumped a little.

"Whoa. Chill dude! Are you ok?"

He looked confused at first. Oh goddamn it! I just asked him a simple question right?

"I-I I'm alright but... You- I-I mean I just- I'm sorry! I was driving really slow but then a stupid dog jumped in front of my car and then I hit the brakes and all this snow made the car end up right on top of your mailbox! "

Ok. Awkward silence. Great. I noticed that he was fumbling with his hands. I thought it was cute. Just as I was about to speak he spoke up first.

"Look, I can pay for it. I can- I mean I can like buy you another-"

"Oh no! It's no problem."

Great work Frank! Now you have confused him even more. It's weird really everything seemed to confuse him!

"Than... What should I do?" He asked with a still worried edge to his voice.

"Go home" I told him calmly. I knew that he was still so panicked.

"You want me to leave just like this!?" To be honest, no I didn't want him to go anywhere.

I wanted him to stay. I didn't know why, I just wanted him to stay here with me. I didn't even know his name! All I knew about him was that he broke my goddamned mailbox. Although I didn't know him I somehow knew that we'd get along really good. There was something so special about him that I couldn't quite put my finger on. But still I told him to go.

"Yeah. Go home"

First he looked at me blankly for a while but then there was an expression on his face that was impossible to read. It was like he was angry at himself or something like that. Maybe I was imagining it.

Than without any other word he turned away and started walking towards his car. Suddenly I felt an irresistible urge to stop him.

"Hey wait!" I yelled even though he wasn't far away. Opss...

There was the awkward silence again, while I was trying to think of something to say. I was so damn panicked at that moment.

"You- I have never seen you around here before. Did you move here recently?" I asked him timidly. In my moment of panic all I could come up with was this but I was pretty pleased with it because it was the truth, plus it was something I actually wanted to ask him.

I thought I saw the corner of his mouth pull up a little at my question. That little gesture made want to smile so much but I resisted the urge to do it.

"I don't live here. I live in the city centre." As soon as the words left his mouth, my eyes widened.

The city centre!? That's so far away! I mean I live in the farthest suburbs of the city. The first thing that crossed my mind was, what the hell he was doing here? So far away from his house in all this snow and at this time of the day!?

He laughed-probably at my comically wide eyes-. It was such a genuine laugh that I couldn't help but laugh myself.

"Dude, what the hell are you doing here? It's almost midnight and it's snowing like crazy."

"Don't even ask! Long story." He said halfheartedly and opened the door to his car.

I guessed it had a personal reason... Or maybe it seriously was a long story.

He turned his keys but... nothing happened. Hmm weird.

He tried again and again but still got nothing. Now, I'm not an expert with cars but I had some predictions of why nothing would happen.

When I looked inside the car to get a better look, I saw that Mr. Firetruck looked extremely frustrated. He was begging for his car to start up. It was hilarious! I laughed at him which made him realize that I was still standing right next to his car. He tried one last time to start the car up but it ended up the same way. Nothing happened.

He made a frustrated noise and got out of his car. He looked at me helplessly, almost like a lost puppy.

"Hey, do you know anything about cars?" He asked, his voice nearly inaudible. I couldn't help but giggle. It made him smile. It was a sweet smile.

"Well, I'm not an expert but I got some predictions. Did this happen before?"

"Yeah, it's been happening for a while." I wonder how much that while is... A month or maybe a year ?

"And you still haven't got it checked?" He smirked a little at me.

"I have my reasons!" He said playfully. We were already getting along well. Awesome.

"So then, it may be because of the batteries but it's probably the starter. You may need to change it." I told him.

He looked miserable for a while, sighed and then asked;

"Do you know any cheap hotel 'round here?"

I studied him a little more, his car didn't look expensive but it didn't look cheap either, he said he lived in the city center which is expensive as fuck and he has Firetruck red hair. He sure didn't look like a serial killer or a thief.

I sighed. It's impossible for him to find any hotel let alone a cheap and nearby one. I wanted him to stay anyway.
