The Fear of Falling Apart

nine

The hospital room was eerie quiet as she looked at the male who was sleeping in the bed, his eyes still shut as he was wired up to several tubes. His face looked shrunken as if he hadn't eaten in a while, while his lips were chapped and broken. Sighing, she remained in the chair, her hand resting lightly on his as she prayed and prayed that he would wake up soon.

"Oli, what did you do.." She trailed, choking on her own tears as she gently stroked her thumb across the top of his palm. Her mind screaming at her to admit everything as she rested her head on his hand, the tears still falling freely down her face.

"I heard, every single word you said to me the night Mae was born. Why did you leave after Oli? Why didn't you stay? If you meant those things you would've stayed."

Oli woke to feel a weight on his hand, his head pounding like he had just gone twelve rounds with Mike Tyson as he grumbled in pain, looking to his left and seeing Robin's head on his hand, fast asleep. He smiled slightly, moving his hand from under her head and pushing her hair back as she began to stir slightly, mumbling lots of different curse words as she sat up, stretching and rubbing her eyes. He couldn't help but notice the fact she had tear stains down her cheeks as he couldn't help but feel bad.

"Robin?" He murmured, his voice rough and exhausted as he moved, stretching slightly, watching her as her eyes opened properly, a smile appearing on her lips as she whispered a gentle hey. Oli wanted nothing more than to grab her and hug her, kiss her lips softly and vow to look after her and Mae until the end of time. But he couldn't, she was his brothers and probably would be. Not that Tom deserved her.

"How you feeling?" She smiled, resting her hand on his and stroking circular patterns on his hand with her thumb as he noticed her nails being painted a light blue colour, his favourite. The nail varnish chipped and broken as if she had been biting on them repeatedly.

"You're not supposed to be here. Tom wouldn't like it." He frowned as she looked at him confused, wondering what he was on about.

"Tom's in Spain again, something to do with business." She explained as he scoffed, causing her face to scrunch up once more in confusion, a sight that made him want to kiss her even more than he did before.

"Yeah right, Tom's the biggest player I know." He sighed, running a hand through his already messy hair as she shook her head, biting down on her lip as she held back the tears that wanted to spill.

"He wouldn't do that, he loves me and Mae."

Shaking his head, Oli bit down on his lip again, "I don't think so."

She sighed, standing up and hugging him before pressing a light kiss to his cheek. Him instantly loving the feeling that her lips on his face gave her as he tried not to grab her face and kiss her like he so desperately wanted too. He couldn't figure out if the drugs in his system were making him like this, or he just wanted to trust his impulses for once.

"I'll be back tomorrow, I need to go get Mae." She told him softly as he nodded, hugging her back awkwardly due to the IV drip in his arm.

"Okay. Safe travels." He laughed as she tapped his cheek gently, grabbing her back as she walked towards the door, him trying to control his thoughts of the girl.

"Oli?" She called as he looked up from his hands, their eyes meeting for a second as he hummed in a slight response.

"I love you too."
