Stretched across the grass in a lazy sprawl, Jack sighed in pleasure at the feel of sunshine on cold skin, back arching like a cat’s as her toes curled in the green.

Levy smiled, eyes still trained on her book, and Gajeel watched both of them lazily, idly tuning his guitar from a spot next to the Solid Script mage in the shade.

A day away from responsibilities, from the guild and the children, was being taken full advantage of.

Blue eyes half-lidded, Jack counted the clouds drifting overhead, heart humming with how close the two mages were.

Humming along with the tune it was making, the winter-girl smiled as she recognized a dragon’s mighty head in the white fluff, and the delicate wings of a fairy fluttering by it’s indistinct snout.

A stream of notes filled the summer air like sated bumblebees, vibrating sweet as honey in her ears, and both girls turned away from what they were doing to watch Gajeel pull chords together in a recognizable melody.

Smile widening as she recognized the song, old and rewritten as it was, Jack closed her eyes and let the music wash over her.

For the first time in centuries, she was content.
