Somewhere I Belong

Chemistry in Chemistry: A New Friend

Jessica found a seat at the back of the room and let her back pack thump on the ground beside her. She sighed and leaned forward resting on the desk. “Uh’ it was barely audible but she looked up to see a boy with straight black hair, one of the ones who were sitting with Gerard at lunch. They were locked in eye contact for a couple seconds before he cleared his throat; “th-that’s my seat” she smiled back at him about to get up.

“But you can have it!’ he protested almost sounding scared she was about to take his head for it. “No it’s yours, sorry” she continued and began to search for another seat before he started to talk again, “this one is available, though” he eyed the seat next to his and she laughed. “Awesome” she started to sit before a larger guy in a letterman jacket came strutting up to them. “Hey jess, why don’t you come join us” he pointed a thumb towards a front table where two other boys and the Asian girl, her name was Camille or something, Jess couldn’t quite remember, were sitting.

“oh that’s alright I’m fine with” she looked towards the boy sitting at the table, “Frank” he mumbled turning his gaze to the window, “yeah, I’m sitting by Frank, thanks though” she smiled and took a seat while the jock eyed Frank, then her and turned back to his seat none too happy.

The class started and they did nothing but go over the syllabus. Frank was silent until about halfway through. “Why did you stay back here?” he asked, she looked over a bit confused, “because you said the seat was open, what? Do I smell bad? Do you want me to move?” she asked jokingly and got a smile out of him. “no, but people like you-‘she cut him off, “now I have heard this ‘people like you’” she air quoted her fingers, “crap and I haven’t even been here a full day yet” she shook her head,

“If people around here judge you based on who you sit with and what you wear I’ll just get naked and be done with it!” Frank went red and just stared at her for a couple of seconds, she smiled wanting to coax that kind of reaction out of him. He laughed and the hour was over. They parted ways, ‘finally’ she thought, she had gotten someone, other than Ally, to somewhat like her,

at least she hoped.
