My Heroine

Chapter 6

Lia sat in the back of a car, her chin resting on the palm of her right hand as she looked out the window. It was a couple of days after having tea and lunch with Gran and as the days moved on, one right after the other with no phone call from Harry, her spirits seemed to dampen just a bit.

Faintly, Lia heard the driver tell the guards at Kensington who they were transporting and why. It was Thursday, which meant dinner at Will’s where she would meet Kate for the first time. She wasn’t as nervous as she thought she would be, meeting her friend’s wife and all. Lia knew it was in part to all those times Harry would talk about her and how nice she was.

“Miss?” She heard the driver say breaking her away from her thoughts.

“Yes? I’m sorry.” She turned her face to the front seeing his eyes in the rear-view mirror.

“His Royal Highness will be waiting outside when we arrive in just a moment.” Lia nodded, thanking the driver. Looking over her outfit of jeans, boots and her coat that covered her plaid button down shirt, she couldn’t help but wish Harry was there with her. As the car slowed to a stop, Lia spotted Will walking up to her door.

“Lia you made it!” Lia smiled at him as he closed the door behind her. William wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug.

“Well, it’s easy when you are pretty much escorted.” Will laughed releasing her from the hug to lead her inside. Taking her coat from her once behind the closed door, Lia smelled, what could possibly be, the most delicious smell of food cooking.

Looking around as she took another step inside, she noticed that the first floor had an open floor concept. She was standing in the spacious living room that was tastefully decorated and from where she stood she could see inside the kitchen and the dining room.

“You must be Angelia. Hi, I’m Kate, I’ve heard so much about you. It’s nice to finally put a face to a name.” Lia watched as Kate walked from the kitchen to right in front of her. She couldn’t help but notice how tall she actually was in person, suddenly Lia felt short in her 5’5” frame.

“Please call me Lia. It’s very nice to meet you as well, your husband gushes about you frequently.” Lia pinched Will’s cheek as she said the last part causing Kate and her to laugh.

“I can tell we’re going to get along just fine.” Kate winked upon hearing a groan come from her husband. “Can I get you anything to drink? We have water, juice, beer, and wine.”

“Wine would be great, I’ll come with you.” She said following Kate into the kitchen, Will following behind her. Taking a seat at the island, she watched the couple work together to fill two glasses of wine and one of sparkling water. Lia wondered why Kate wasn’t drinking wine with Will and her, but when Will rubbed Kate’s stomach the way that would make it obvious why she wasn’t partaking in wine. “I’m sorry, but are you expecting?”

Will laughed shaking his head; Kate smiled softly as her hands moved to her stomach over his.

“Not a big fan of the news Lia?” Will joked causing Kate to playfully hit his arm.

“Yes, we are. We are due in July.” Lia couldn’t help the big smile that formed on her lips.

“Wow! Congratulations.” Getting up, she hugged the couple. “I can’t believe you’re going to be a father Will. It seems like just yesterday you were sabotaging my dates.”

“I’ve never did such things, Harry was just saying that to get me in trouble with Papa.” Will countered rolling his eyes.

“That’s why you would just so happen to be near the door when we’d come in, smiling like a Cheshire cat?” Lia challenged with a raised brow, keeping eye contact with Will until he looked away smiling.

“Okay, fine! I did it once, but that’s all and Arthur is the one who taught me how to turn them on.” Will held up both of his hands with his palms facing outward.

“I knew it!” Lia cheered raising both arms in the air. “Which date?”

She watched as Will’s lips twitched holding back a smile.

“The first one.” Lia pointed her finger at him, narrowing her eyes.

“You’re a sneaky rat William.” Will and Kate laughed, Lia shaking her head chuckling. Will excused himself hearing his phone ring in the other room.

“Will says you had lunch with Elizabeth the other day. How was that?” Kate asked sitting next to Lia.

“It went well; we just caught up on the past 8 months.” Lia left out the part about Harry completely.

“She’s an amazing woman.” Lia nodded in agreement. “I hope this isn’t being too forward, but Will told me about you and Harry. Now that you’re back in England, do you think you’ll talk to him?”

Lia thought about how to answer the question without giving anything away.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to pry.” She heard Kate say. Lia turned to her smiling.

“Oh, no, sorry I was just thinking of what to say. I honestly don’t know. I haven’t talked to him in a while, perhaps if a situation presented itself.” Lia couldn’t help but notice a playful smirk on Kate’s lips as she moved to finish dinner. Will came back into the kitchen just seconds later keeping Lia from asking about the smile to Lia’s response.

Lia groaned in relief as she laid down in her bed hours later, feeling tired, full and slightly happier than she was before. Making sure her phone wasn’t on silent she placed it on its charger, a routine that she had gotten into once she came home. Closing her eyes, she used some simple relaxation techniques to help her drift into a light sleep.

Turning over as the ringing start, her hand went to the loud device picking it up. Squinting at the screen she noticed it was a blocked number, using her finger she swiped the bar to answer the call.

“Hello?” Her voice was rough, raw.

“Hi Angel.” His voice came from the other end, her body shot up into a sitting position on her bed.

“Harry.” She breathed out in relief causing him to chuckle on the other line.

“Yes love, it’s me. Did I wake you?” His voice rang of happiness as he heard her voice.

“No, no, I mean I was trying to, but I’d rather talk to you.” She replied smiling.

“It’s good to hear your voice, you have no idea how much I miss you.” Lia felt her eyes well up with tears at his confession.

“I bet I do.” She said as her voice cracked. “I miss you so much.”

“Angel please don’t cry, please. I don’t know if I can take it.” Lia heard his voice shake and crack as he spoke.

“I had dinner with your brother and Kate tonight; she’s lovely, you were right. I also found out that Will did turn on the sprinklers during our first date.” Lia mentioned laughing when she heard his laugh come through the receiver.

“I told you it was him.” He chuckled.

“You did. So, I had lunch and tea with Gran this week. You told her everything.” She said softly. “She’s happy for us. She said she will let us be the ones to tell the family when the time is right.”

“I know. She told me to make sure I didn’t mess it up this time, that she knew I learned my lesson. I knew you’d need someone to rely on while I’m still out here and she was my go to person.” He replied in the same soft tone. “I have 5 weeks left and then I will be back with you. 5 Weeks left before you’re back in my arms and I don’t care if it’s selfish or not Angelia, I’m not letting you go. I can’t wait to have you in my arms, in my bed, with our phones turned off and the shades shut, for one whole day the outside world doesn’t exist. Just you and me. For one whole day, you and I will not leave each others sight, touch; I will relearn every inch of you, every place that makes you moan, sigh, cry or leave you speechless. That whole day will be me loving, cherishing and devoting my being to you. 5 weeks love, and then the rest of our life starts.”

Lia wiped her eyes as the tears poured over at his words.

“I’ll be here waiting. I want you, just you and your love. Just make it here in 5 weeks safe and unharmed then we can spend a full day in your bed and then a full day in mine. I want to caress every inch of you with my lips, my hands, and my love. I just need you here. Safe.”

“I will be baby.” She heard a voice from behind him. “Angel, I have to go, but I will call you again soon. I love you Angelia.”

Lia smiled at his words.

“I love you to Harry.”

“Bye baby.” He said softly as she said the same.

5 weeks.

5 weeks.
