Survive the Storm
Chapter 8
Ms. Payton.
She lie on the ground, blood surrounded her.
Oh no is she really gone? Was my first thought.
Labor. Was my second thought.
After so much crying, I held it in and decided to check if she had a pulse.
" Oh thank god " I let out a sigh of relief.
She has a pulse and she's breathing.
" Ms. Payton " Kris and I shook her.
" Kris? Ella? " She mumbled.
" Ella we have get out of here " Kris whispered.
" Why? " I asked.
" That flashlight I see it again and it's closer now " Kris stood up
trying to pull me up.
" Ms. Payton we have to get out of here, what happened to u? " I
asked, trying to pull her up.
" I... I.. Think... I'm in... Labor " She moaned.
I gulped.
Without thinking I pressed my hand against her stomach, to see where
the baby was.
" Oh my god what the heck? " I stood up shocked.
" What? " Kris and Ms. Payton asked.
I leaned over and whispered to Kris " I felt 2 different heads! Unless the baby has problems "
" No way it' couldn't be twins " Kris said nervously.
" Ooo scary the two headed baby, Kris it's twins " I said sarcastically.
" Ella what's wrong? " Ms, Payton asked, sitting up.
" Are you absolutely sure that your only having one baby right? " I
spoke quickly.
" Yes, why are you saying you think I'm having twins? " She attempted to stand but was forced back down.
" 2 heads " I pointed to her stomach telling her to feel.
She out her hand on her stomach moving it around quickly.
After a couple seconds she gasped.
" No the doctor would have told me " She cried.
" Ella we have to go " Kris pointed to the reflection.
The light was closer now.
With one strong pull me and Kris managed to get Ms. Payton off the ground.
We helped her walk along with us, her arms swung over our shoulders.
The light just continued to follow us until, the flashlight fell.
Someone cursed loudly, a man.
It scared all of us.
That was our cue to leave.
Ms. Payton, ignoring the pain, ran along side us.
" Wait! " A voice yelled.
Ryan.
" Ryan! " I yelled back " Hurry someone is following us! "
Ryan sped up and reached us, as soon as he was running next to us, his
hand locked in mine.
Soon I asked Ryan " Where is everyone else, we have to find them "
" They can't be to far from us I just heard voices a couple minutes ago.
Just as Ryan said, we heard voices in front of us.
" Mrs, B! Mrs, Hans! Girls! " We cried running to them in the hallway.
Everyone with flashlights on their phones.
" We have to help Ms. Payton, she's in early labor, with twins we think "
I helped Ms. Payton lie down.
" Oh god " Mrs. B shuttered " I'm gonna help, I may be pregnant to but
I'll risk a possible labor for me to help u through yours, since now u
probably have one more baby than me " She laughed.
All of us girls and Ryan, made our beds of sweatshirts on the hard
floor by lockers, just yards away from the 2 teachers helping Ms.
Payton through the first stage of labor, before she gave birth. I
wondered what would happen when she came to the point of birth.
I checked my phone again, 8:00 pm, It was Tuesday, the storm started
at 11:45 on Monday, it's been over a day.
I wanted to go home so badly.
I felt so bad for everyone, especially Ms. Payton and Mrs. B with the babies.
" Yup that has to be 2 " Mrs. Hans pushed on Ms. Payton's stomach, she flinched.
I laid down by Hailey, Kendra, Kia, Chloe, and Jane.
Nikki and Emma lie by Megan helping her sleep.
Still by the social studies department, we crept up against the
lockers to sleep, but we knew we wouldn't sleep long, because if Ms.
Payton really went into birth, something bad was gonna happen and she
could lose her children and possibly cause Mrs. B's labor.
I just wanted one full night of sleep now.
But it was nearly impossible because of water and worrying about Ms.
Payton and the other 2 trying to sleep while having a possible
beginning labor.
Every 10 minutes she'd groan and cry, I felt so bad, and everyone seemed to too.
" Hey Mrs. Hans " Ms, Payton mumbled.
" How are you doing? " Mrs. Hans sat up and scooted closer to Ms. Payton.
I lifted up my head, I must've sleep for a couple hours because I felt better.
Looking over to the sides of me, I saw, Kia, Jane, and Chloe snuggled
up to the one side of me sleeping, Hailey and Kendra by my head, Ms.
Payton and Mrs. Hans by my feet in the hallway because the rest of us
were in by the lockers which were pushed back from the lower hallway
we were in.
I looked around for a second for Mrs. B.
Then I realized she was just a foot from my left side, she kept moving
up against me, she was so warm, I laid up next to her too.
" Hey " Ms. Payton said again.
" Oh my god " Mrs, Hans gulped.
I sat up again, wondering what happened.
" Unless I just wet my pants, my water just broke " Ms. Payton freaked, grabbing Mrs. Hans's sleeve, yanking her over next to her.
Mrs. Hans immediately reacted and crawled to Mrs. B to wake her, but stopped.
She put her hand just barely over Mrs. B's figure.
" What's wrong? ' I asked.
" We should let her sleep " Mrs. Hans smiled.
I nodded and drifted back to sleep with my friends and Mrs. B right next to me.
I was awoke again at 2:00 am, to someone saying my name.
" Ella honey, I'm sorry but we need you for a couple minutes " I realized it was Mrs. Hans.
" What's going on? " I asked.
" Ms. Payton just went into the second stage of labor " Mrs, Hans
smiled nervously.
" That means she's gonna have the baby/ babies "
" And ur gonna deliver them? " I sounded shocked.
" Well what else can we do? " Mrs, Hans asked not expecting me to answer.
" What should I do? " I asked back " What can I do? "
" Wake up the others and Mrs. B, you guys have to keep finding a way
out, I'll stay with Ms, Payton because were pretty sure she'll give
birth in a couple hours "
I nodded nervously.
" Kia, Jane, Chloe " I gently shook them.
" What? " Jane moaned.
" Wake up the others I'll tell u why in a second " I told them.
" Kendra, Hailey " Jane whispered.
" I'll get the others " Kia crawled to the others.
" Emma, Megan, Kris, Cory, Ryan, Nikki get up "
" Mrs. B " I whispered to Mrs. B " We have to get up and find a way
out, Ms. Payton's giving birth and Mrs. Hans is staying with her. "
" Oh no, Mrs. Hans are u sure? " Mrs. B sat up and leaned toward Mrs. Hans.
" Yes yes it's ok, Mrs. B you gotta get the kids away from this place
something's wrong and we don't need them seeing a birth " Mrs. Hans
whispered.
" Agreed " Mrs. B nodded. " C'mon guys we gotta go "
" No " Kia stood up.
" What? " Mrs. B turned to Kia.
" What are u doing? " Emma whispered to Kia.
" We can't leave Ms. Payton " Jane stood too.
" Whoa Whoa girls " Mrs. Hans calmed us " You have to find a way out "
" Wait " I looked around. " Where is Nikki? "
" Oh my god " Hailey freaked.
Suddenly the railing of the hallway above tilted as if someone was
leaning to hard on it.
We all looked up as someone screamed and right before our eyes a girl
fell from the railing, pushing the railing over with her and landing
just by us, crushing Cory.
