Sunrise at Midnight

Perilous Visions

I looked down at the floor that was moving with every step as I ran from Rayne and her clutches. I could hear her laughs behind me, and her threats to kill me. I couldn’t help but chuckle at her attempt to murder me for telling Fred and George that Rayne was “head over knickers” for them. They knew it was a joke, but we couldn’t help but pretend it was serious.

I felt someone tackle me behind my back and I turned to see Rayne standing up from the grass. She looked down at me and laughed. “I’m going to hex you, you know that?”

I giggled. “Not if I hex you first!”

Grinning, she helped me up from the grass.

“So, do you care to tell me why the Chosen One, the ginger, and the bookworm have been acting so weird lately,” Rayne asked me.

“Maybe because it’s the last week of Hogwarts,” I stated, looking up at the sun. It felt like so long ago we were in winter, but now spring had ended, and summer was nearing, which meant we would be out of school soon. I didn’t know exactly how I felt about that - I was both excited to return to the Burrow, but depressed to be leaving Hogwarts and my brother for a few months.

“No seriously, are they still going about...whatever they were going on about? You never exactly told me what it was.”

“I think they are - but they won’t try anything stupid. They promised. And you know I can’t tell you - I promised,” I explained for the hundredth time.

“Gees, so many promises,” she joked.

“Two. Promises!”

“Still a lot!”

I chuckled and smacked her arm. But then I remembered. “So, speaking of the three nimrods, do you happen to know where they went? I forgot I had to tell Harry something.”

Rayne shrugged. “How do I know? Them little group of misfits are always finding trouble somehow, somewhere.”

I nodded, agreeing. “They are, aren’t they?”

“You have a weird brother. You told me he was calm when he was little!”

“That’s because he was! Now he’s just as curious as ‘Mione,” I exclaimed.

After a moment of silence, I decided I would get up and try to find my brother. I dismissed myself from the outside world and walked back into the castle, passing by students. I had no idea where I would find them.

I passed by a dark-skinned boy with black hair who was walking with Lee Jordan. I recognized the Gryffindor boy from the first year group. I tapped his back.

“Oi,” he jumped, turning around. I laughed at his reaction. “Oh, Rosalie right? What’s up,” the boy asked.

“I was just wondering if you’ve seen Harry? I really need to tell him something.”

“Erm, I think they were in Professor Dumbledore’s office? I’m not sure.”

“Thank you,” I thanked him, kissing his cheek. His eyes widened as I began running to the Headmaster’s tower, chuckling.

I was about to reach the Gargoyle when suddenly, a searing pain hit my head, as if I was just hit with a brick. But it left as quick as it came, and then I blanked out from the world. All I could see was white. I knew exactly what was happening.

I was having a vision.

”Calmin’ Fluffy down isn’ hard at all, jus’ need to play some music is all,” Hagrid’s voice told the three figures I immediately recognized as the Trio.

The image changed. Harry, Ron and Hermione were standing in Dumbledore’s office, looking up at McGonagall. Dumbledore wasn’t there.

“I tell you, no one can steal the stone, it is absolutely impossible, especially for three - eleven year olds,” the Transfiguration Professor insisted.

Like if I could see in Harry’s mind, I could tell either way he was going to go after that stone.

Another time, the image changed itself. I could see a man sitting on a table. He was quiet, not speaking, and then in that instant he had fallen to the ground, all the life leaving his body.

I snapped back into reality. I had a feeling I knew all too well what would happen tonight, and it wasn't going to be something fun.

My attention darted to the gargoyle as I watched it open, revealing Harry, Ron, and Hermione. They looked down at me as I was kneeled on the floor, grabbing my head. They rushed to my side.

"Rosalie, are you okay," Hermione asked worriedly.

I nodded. "Yeah, 'Mione. I'm fine...just a vision."

Ron raised his brow. "What did you see?"

I shook my head, turning my head to Harry. I got the feeling he knew exactly what I saw. "It was nothing, really."

The other two eyed me curiously and then shook it off.

"Come on Harry," Ron urged. "We have homework to do."

Even though I knew it was a lie, I brushed it off and pretended to not let it irk me. I grabbed Harry's wrist before he could walk off.

"Harry, you know exactly what I saw," I mumbled.

"You know where we were thinking of going, don't you," he asked.

I nodded. "Don't do it. So what if Snape gets the Stone? Wow, eternal Potions master. There's no big deal."

"You don't understand, Rosalie, I-"

I cut him off, putting my hands on his shoulders. It was unbelievable he was about half a head shorter than me for being eleven. "Harry, please? It's for your own safety. I lost you once, I can't lose you again."

He sighed, ignoring my question and walked away. I had a bad feeling about this, but all I could do was merely stand back and watch Harry walk straight into danger.

I began walking towards the library, deciding to read some books on creatures. Unlike Hagrid, I wasn't fascinated by them and tricked they weren't harmful, but they were rather interesting to read about.

As I walked in, I greeted Madam Pince and walked through the numerous bookshelves until I settled on a book about vampires. I sat down at a table, putting the book down for me to read.

I was beginning to get interested by the blood-sucking monsters when I felt hurried footsteps coming my way. I looked up to see Professor Dumbledore.

Baffled by his sudden appearance, I looked at him. "Professor? I thought you were in London!"

"Rosalie, we have no time to waste. We must go save your brother."

I already knew deep inside he has gone after the Stone, but my mind was trying to ignore the thought, push it away, only to have it return.

"What is it, Professor?"

"He's after the Philosopher's Stone," he answered not-so-calmly.

"But what's the situation," I asked, closing the book and standing up.

"Professor Quirrell is after the Stone too."

I gasped. "Quirrell? I thought Snape was! Why does Quirrell want the stone?"

"He doesn't want it for himself, miss Potter, and he is not alone. We must hurry!"

I began to walk with him, worried out of my mind for my brother's life and his friends.

"Wait, Professor Dumebledore, who is with Quirrell? Who is he getting it for?"

Dumbledore let out a long sigh. It was enough to assure me his answer would not be a pleasant one. But I didn't expect the name that slipped his mouth.

"Lord Voldemort."
