The Day I Met You

018

Jessie was waiting by the door of my room when I arrived, out of breath and blushing like a mad woman. Thoughts of Loza’s lips flooded my imagination. I prayed I wasn’t too transparent in my thoughts; the hurt in Jessie’s eyes told me otherwise. I stopped about a foot in front of him.

“What am I doing here, Rey,” his voice was low, quivering.

“Why am I here, Jess,” I countered breathlessly.

“Because your uncle offered to help you,” his eyes held conviction and pain, but his voice shook.

“You’re here because I asked you to come.” A corner of his mouth rose, barely enough to notice before it fell back into its frown.

“Why are you flirting with a married man?” His shoulders tensed, arms crossed, eyes averted to the ground; I realized he’d noticed the casual silliness coming from Loza’s relationship with me.

“I can’t help it. I don’t want to,” I averted my own gaze as I turned away from him, “he told me his wife is leaving him for coming here. I told him to go home.”

“You told him…what?” I could almost hear the laughter in his voice. I could feel his eyes on me.

“To go home...” I sighed, “What are you deaf now?”

When I turned to look at Jessie he was already closing the space between us. I felt the warm breath escaping from his pale pink lips only centimeters from mine. His palms were clammy from sweating because of, I guessed, nerves when he took my hands.

“Danny’s throwing me a party,” I whispered each movement of my lips brushing gingerly against his. Tingles fluttered up and down my spine as the contents of my stomach danced wildly while blood rushed to my cheeks causing them to burn hotter than any wild fire.

“Mmhmm,” he sighed. I could feel his pulse racing through his fingertips.

“Wanna be my date,” I half mouthed. His forehead rested against mine cause the blood to burn my face even more. He shook his head before reluctantly stepping back.

“You should change though. Sand isn’t a party look,” he laughed. His beautiful green eyes danced as he released my hands. I winked at him causing a wildfire to burn across his face before I blew him a gentle kiss. He pretended to catch it and put it into his pocket before Leaving me to change.

“Loza who?”
