Love Is Deaf, Not Blind
Chapter twenty-six
Andrew’s POV
I pull up out front Jocelyn’s almost exactly 20 minutes later, feeling sick to my stomach. I’m really nervous to see her after my stupid bone head move of kissing her. I’m shocked that she even wants to see me after the way she ran off. I feel even worse thinking about it, I’m about to honk the horn when I remember that she’s not going to hear it.
I get out of the crappy faded blue car I share with dad and walk up to too the front door. I’m about to ring the doorbell when I notice movement out of the corner of my eyes. Dark ringlets hide her pale face from view as she walks…no paces across the lawn.
Maybe it wasn’t a good think that she wanted to see me. I swallow, and try to calm my nervous as I slowly walk over to her.
She doesn’t look up so I wave my hand to get her attention she practically jumps back.
“You….scare…me,” I straggle to work out want she says.
‘Sorry I didn’t mean to scare you.’
‘Wait a moment while I restart my heart.’ Her smiles seems genuine.
’Where did you want to go?’
“Game Arcade?” She speaks out loud more clearly than before.
‘Sure.’ I sign back to her, smiling. I wonder why she’s speaking out loud more than she’s been signing later before I notice the tiny nude coloured plastic cap on her finger and remember.
We walk across the lawn towards the crappy car, I open Jocelyn’s door for her and walk around to the driver’s side.
“Nice car” She smiles but I’m not sure if she’s being serious or teasing me. “1971?”
‘You’re being serious? You like this piece of crap?’
“Do not tease…her. She is a Classic.”
‘Classic?[ I can’t help but laugh at that.
She leads closer to the dashboard. “He doesn't mean it” She whispers to the car before she stokes the dashboard. I have to hold back a laugh.
I put the car into drive, and pull away from the curb and head towards the arcade.
“So you like cars I take it?” I turn to mostly face her but turn my eyes way towards the road.
“Love cars…classic non…pimped up cars.”
“I wouldn’t have guessed.”
“Why? Because I am…a girl?”
“No because you’ve never mentioned it.”
“I have…not? You should…have guessed…from the way…I stare at…cars”
“I should have. Guess I’m bad a picking up on what you like.”
“Maybe. You can always ask.”
“I’ll remember that.” I pull into the car park.
“What is your…favourite…arcade game?”
I think for a moment, ‘I like air hockey’
“Air hockey? That not even…technically an…arcade game.”
‘Sure it is. You find it in arcades’
“Whatever…I will still…beat you.”
