One Mississippi, Two Mississippi

Leather And Lace

Callie was sitting cross legged on the living room floor when Jamie made his way downstairs. He sat down beside her, Callie stared at the coffee table, Jamie stared at his feet stretched out in front of him. Neither one spoke, they simply sat in silence for several minutes.

Jamie got up and went to the kitchen, grabbing a zip lock bag he filled it with ice before he went back to the living room and sat down beside Callie. As he put the ice pack on her ankle he said, "I'm sorry."

Callie shook her head, "don't be. I am. I know I'm kind of crazy lately and I know that I haven't been the easiest person to deal with and I'm sorry for yesterday."

"I get it, I know that we don't have much time left, and I know that's stressing you out but I promise you we'll be ready." Jamie told her, leaning his back against the couch.

"I'm sorry if it seems like I'm miserable all the time and that I'm not happy. You know I'm happy right?" Callie asked, turning to look at Jamie as he nodded. She then added, "this has just been rough, and not how I expected it to be and I'm sorry it seems like I'm not excited for this baby."

"I know you are. Can we maybe just forget all this?" Jamie asked, when Callie nodded he grinned and got up, holding his hands out for her. She raised her eyebrow and he simply said, "I want to show you something."

Callie sighed dramatically, making him laugh, but she put her hands in his and he pulled her to her feet. She followed him up the stairs and into the nursery, which was now completed. The crib put together against the far wall, changing table against the wall adjacent to the crib, oversized chair next to the crib and a shelf full of diapers, clothing, and anything else they might need.

Her eyes welled up with tears and she turned to Jamie and apologized again, "I'm sorry for being a colossal bitch yesterday."

He couldn't help but laugh as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her into him, "it's okay, it kind of kicked me in the ass and made me actually finish this. So now you won't be as stressed and it should get a little better around here."

"I love you. You know that?" Callie turned to face him and leaned up slightly, gently pulling him down to her level to kiss him.

"I love you too. Now I need you to come outside with me." Jamie told her, guiding her downstairs without so much as a word. She waited by the door where he left her as he returned with a plastic lawn chair and a single size chocolate milk carton with a straw in the top. Callie raised her eyebrow but was met with silence again as Jamie guided her outside. He placed the lawn chair on the driveway and sat her in it, handing her the milk carton before he unlocked her vehicle and opened the back seat door, explaining, "thought you could keep me company while I try and get this thing in."

Callie smiled at the car seat, and nodded, taking a drink of her milk while Jamie got started. It was nearly half an hour before Callie asked him, "do you want me to call Court? She probably knows what to do."

"I'm fine." Was the only response she got as Jamie went back to trying to figure out how to get the car seat into the vehicle.

When he got out, back to her, trying another approach Callie couldn't help but reach her leg out and gently kick his butt with her foot. When he turned around around and raised an eyebrow she grinned and told him, "can I just say I will be super happy when this baby gets here. I kind of miss you."

"I'm like 2 feet away from you." He told her with a confused face, making Callie stare at him and blink slowly. When he finally made the connection he smiled, "oh. I get it now. I would have to agree "

He made his way toward her and leaned down to kiss her quickly before he got back in the back seat. Callie turned her head as Jordie's truck pulled into the driveway. Kelly got out first and as she came around the back of the SUV and saw Jamie half in the back seat she raised an eyebrow, "what's going on?"

"Jamie is trying to put the car seat in. He's not doing so good so far." Callie told her, making Kelly stifle her laughter before Callie looked at Jamie's back and asked, "do you want me to call Courtney?"

Without turning from what he was doing Jamie told her, "no I do not need you to call your sister. I just need to get this one stupid piece in."

"If you say so." Callie said with a smirk, putting her straw between her teeth, chewing on it lightly. She held back laughter as she heard something snap and Jamie cursed getting out of the vehicle with his thumb against his mouth. It was then that she asked, "you okay?"

"Don't even start." He warned her, making her grin.

"What? I wasn't gonna say anything." Callie said with a smile.

Kelly glanced between them and then pointed at Jamie, and then Callie, before saying, "you two switched bodies. Jamie is all of a sudden grumpy and Callie is the chipper the grass is green enough on our side one... it's weird... stop it."

Callie rolled her eyes and then turned to Kelly and asked, "what's taking your boyfriend so long? I weirdly miss his jokes."

"He's having some difficulty with a little surprise we have."

The minute he opened his door a little German Sheppard puppy jumped down and made its way over to Kelly. She picked it up and Callie shook her head, "you are so not bringing that dog in my house."

Kelly grinned, "actually it's living with Jordie. But what do you have against dogs?"

"Nothing aside from the fact that they're messy. I clean up enough now and in a few weeks there's gonna be another baby in the house. I don't have time for a dog."

"Another baby? Am I missing something?" Jordie asked, staring at Callie.

Kelly told him, "she means that Jamie is the other baby she cleans up after doofus."

Jordie rolled his eyes, "don't make me take him back."

Kelly cuddled the dog closer, covered his ears and said, "shh he didn't mean that."

Jamie got out of the car and stepped aside before saying to Callie, "see, told you I could get it in."

"Yeah, we know that, she wouldn't be pregnant if you couldn't." Kelly said with a smirk, making Callie laugh and Jamie roll his eyes.

"Has anyone ever told you you're the most-"

Kelly cut Jamie off with a smile and said, "awesome person in the entire world? Yes, all the time."

"While you two are squabbling over there, I'm just gonna balance this chocolate milk carton on my stomach and be grateful that in a few weeks I won't be able to do that anymore." Callie said, making Jordie laugh.

When she got it balanced he simply stared at her, and before he could say anything Kelly said, "finally graduated from a yogurt cup I see."

"If you must know that was several weeks ago actually." Callie told her with a smile.

Jordie turned his attention to her and said, "I'm glad to see you're in a better mood now."

"Well I finally woke up and didn't puke my guts out, and I've decided it's time to not be a miserable hag for a while." Callie said, making Kelly laugh.

"You really were pretty difficult to be around." Kelly said with a laugh, making Jordie laugh as well.

"Well excuse you, it's very difficult to spend most of your day throwing up or laying in bed because everything hurts... No you're totally right I have been a terrible person to be around." Callie said, nudging Jordie's leg with her foot when he laughed.

Jamie glanced at her and said, "I'm sure in a few weeks you'll be back to normal Callie."

"I don't know if that's much better." Jordie said, making Jamie laugh.

Callie rolled her eyes at him and said, "don't make me ban you from my house. I have that power, I'm pregnant and therefore everything I say goes."

"Did you really just pull the pregnancy card on that one?" Kelly asked, making her laugh.

"Damn right I did, I only have a few weeks left to do that now."
