Battle wounds
I sigh as I sit down on one of the couches in the rec room, 'can I sit with you?' a voice asks and I look up to see Alex,
'Yeah.' I nod and he sits down next to me,
'How are you doing?' he asks and I shrug,
'okay I guess. You?' I say quietly,
'I'm alright.' he sighs and puts my hand on his thigh, playing with my bracelets,
'What's with the bracelet obsession?' I ask,
'I'm not allowed to wear them and yours are cool.' he mumbles,
'Oh okay then.' i chuckle,
'Jack, are you gay?' he asks suddenly and I laugh,
'Yeah, why?' I smirk,
'I could tell. Call it gay intuition.' He smiles, the corners of his eyes crinkling,
'You're very pretty, you know that?' I say softly, looking him in the eye,
'No.' he mumbles and I frown,
'Yes you are.' I whisper, he looks at me with pain in his eyes and shakes his head,
'No I'm not, I'm a fucked up kid with scars to prove it.' he whispers,
'Scars are battle wounds.' I say softly, putting an arm over his shoulders,
'Its really depressing in here... Do you wanna go somewhere else?' He asks, giving me that lobsided smile,
'Sure.' I chuckle,
'Come on. Let's go to the arts and crafts room.' he grins and I smile at his childish enthusiasm.

'What are you doing?' Alex asks, looking up from his painting,
'You'll see. Wow Alex, did you just do that?' I gasp, looking at the painting of me,
'Yeah, do you like it?' he smiles and I nod,
'you're crazy talented.' I grin,
'Thanks. I like to paint. It reminds me that I'm not completely fucked up and I have some uses.' he shrugs,
'You're incredible.' I whisper and he smiles, blushing,
'Thank you Jack... That means a lot.' he says softly and I smile at him.

'Give me your hand.' I say quietly and Alex puts his hand in front of me, I smile and tie the thread bracelet I made around his wrist,
'There. Don't let anyone see it.' I smile and he smiles wide at me,
'Thank you.' he smiles and tugs his sleeves over his hands,
'You're fucking adorable.' I chuckle and he giggles, one of his sleeve covered hands covering his mouth.
