Coal Spines

shadows.

We know if an object is solid or not by the shadow it leaves. Sometimes it's thick, leaving to light, and appears to be the black hole, nothing but the darkness there, and not even the outline of the surface it's painting is visible. That's how we know that object is likely heavy, large, made of something that absorbs light. At other times, the shadow is wavering, almost not even there.

You once told me the things we do are like our shadows. Remember that? I liked that thought. You and I, Rhett, we think alike. You left a permanent shadow on me, I'd say, because you are just that kind of person. You tend to be remembered, and I remember you dearly.
