The One That Got Away?

Revelations

Sidney slipped into the comfort of his bed and Megan instantly snuggled into him. His body went tense at her affection that was beyond him. Usually he loved close contact with Megan, he liked the feeling of her warm, soft skin. She was a comfort zone for him, whenever he was having a bad day holding onto Megan made him feel better. Right now however, the contact did nothing for him, if anything he was angry at her. He couldn't help but wonder what made someone as warm as Lorie turn that icy. There was no love loss between the two, and that worried him. Preseason hadn't begun and the wedding was after the playoffs, how were the two of them going to make it? Megan had never hinted that she didn't like Lorie, but come to think of it he had only heard Megan mention Lorie once. From what Sidney saw he questioned how anyone could not like Lorie, she seemed so genuine. Sidney laid there all night thinking about what Lorie had said, and planned to confront Megan the moment she woke up.

At around six am Megan began to stirr beside him, and his anxiety seemed to rise by the moment. He wanted to know the truth but was terrified of it at the same time. He didn't want a reason to distrust or not like one of them, he didn't want anything to change.

"Sid?" Megan questioned in her groggy voice, her eyes still not open.

"Hey Meg, can I ask you a question?" he asked with a serous tone instantly waking Megan up. She sat up against the headboards of the bed, crossing her legs, and facing Sid.

"Of course you can." she replied trying to mask her nervousness. She couldn't deny the fact that he had been acting differently ever since Lorie had arrived.

"What happened to Lorie's mother?" he asked and noticed Megan tense up immediately, which worried him more than he would like to admit.

"I told you Sidney." she replied calmly.

"No I mean what really happened to her. I ran into Lorie last night while getting water and there were some inconsistencies in both stories." Granted, Lorie didn't tell him what happened, but he felt he had a better chance of getting the information out of her this way.

"That's because Lorie's a manipulative bitch." Megan said harshly.

"Megan!" Sidney protested.

"You think you know her but you don't! She has always been manipulative and mean. She teased me all throughout high school and almost drove me to suicide! I haven't seen her in so long because she isn't welcome in the house anymore. Her dad always took her side and worshiped his precious daughter even when I said she was mean! Finally, one day he caught her yelling at me and told her to get lost. The entire family hates her but this is atheist father's attempt at a reconciliation. I didn't say her mother died because you would feel sorry for her and not believe me. Lorie brings out the worst in me, but she's always been the mean, fake, bitch she was when I first met her!" Megan cried as Sidney wrapped her in his arms, believing every word fed to him.

"Meg I love you, I would neve believe your sister over you. you should have told me that's why you two didn't get along! I'm sorry your sister is a complete bitch, she honestly hides it well." Sidney admired astonished. Clearly he read Lorie worng, she did seem to nice to not be fake. He felt a sense of hate and resentment towards her now that he knew what she did to Megan. Lorie was someone he was obligated to hat no matter what, and he didn't think he would struggle too much with his task.

"Thanks for supporting me Sid. I'm going to go shower then face the Ice Queen." Megan replied getting out of bed in her panites and a bra.

"Ice Queen?" Sidney questioned.

"It's what I've been calling Lorie for ages. She's too icy to actually understand what kindness and love is." Megan replied with a sassy smile.

"Ice Queen, I like it." Sidney agreed and got out of bed prepared to go eat breakfast.

Sidney trotted down stairs and was met with a wall of delicious smelling food. He walked toward the kitchen and saw Lorie in a pair of jeans and a Harry Potter T-shirt, wearing days of the week socks that were mismatched, neither of them the right day. She was playing some sort of classical music on her phone and dancing around slightly to the music. There were Laos of fresh ingredients on the counter, all of which were new and Lorie didn't have the keys to any of the cars so she must have walked by herself. It wasnt even sixthirty and the nearest market is a thirty minute walk both ways. He was slightly mad at her for walking alone by herself because she could have been hurt, he was protective over her. He shook his head trying to restore the hate he felt for her.

"What's going on?" Sidney asked trying to be irritated with the petite woman. She let out a gasp and out her hand ove her heart in shock. He almost chuckled at how easy she was to scare, he love it. Wait what?

"I made Brouillade de truffes, coffe, and muffins. It's an apology for my ambugity last night, I was shockingly vague. So I made French food!" Lorie explained rapidly showing him the egg dish is the skillet. He noticed she spoke with prefect French, even the accent was impeccable.

"Where did you learn to speak French?" he asked curiously as she began serving him food.

"Oh, I went to school for a year there, my freshman year actually. Every summer since I've gone back and done volunteer work at schools suffering in poverty. I learned to speak the language and taught children to read and write." Lorie replied nonchantly handing him the plate of eggs, two muffins, and a cup of coffee. Just kill me now, Sidney couldn't help but think. The story seemed real but then again Meagn told himself was a lair. He took a bite of the egg dish and groanedm it was the best thing he had ever eaten. The flavors were to die for. Was there anything that woman couldn't do? She scooped herself some food and sat next to him eating. They ate in silence until Megan came trotting down the stairs.

"Do you want some breakfast?" Lorie asked Megan.

"Don't be silly Lor, I only eat fruit for breakfast." Megan replied rolling her eyes. Sidney wasn't sure what to do, he could have stood up for Lorie because of how rude Megan was, but he remembered what Meg told him so he kept shoevling food into him mouth. He polished off the food in record time and got up to leave for practice. He was going to say thank you to Lorie for the food but noticed Megan glaring at him. He kissed Megan goodbye and scurried out of the house, not bothering to clean up his plate or say thank you to Lorie. He felt horrible, but kept reminding himself she deserved it.

Sidney walked into Consol and was immediately bombarded by questions from skeptical teammates. He just shrugged them off while he got ready for the skate. Once in the ice he ran drills and practiced hard, the entire team was looking great and hopeful for another cup this 2013-2014 season. After practice a group of guys gathered around to talk. Sidney, Flower, Kris Letang, Evgeni Malkin, James Neal, and Craig Adams all stood in a circle talking.

"I still ant believe I met Lorie! I seriously love her books, my wife is demanding to meet her." Craig claimed.

"Who?" Kris asked.

"Megan's stepsister." James offered.

"Well according to Megan, Lorie was quite the bitch growing up." Sidney said, which caused Craig to bust out laughing.

"That's hilarious! That woman is a saint!" Craig said.

"Why saint?" Geno asked the group.

"She does more charity work than Oprah." Criag said.

"Now I have to meet her!" Marc-Andre yelled, and Sidney agreed with reluctance, and the group was headed back to Sidney's place.
