Passed Our Dancing Days

summer.

I had plans to leave this summer.

To run away into the sun filled
atmosphere. I would finally leave
home, maybe work at a library,
and begin my life at college.

But things changed on June eleventh,
2013. My adoptive mother came
to me, holding pieces of paper,
wet things falling gently from her wide blue
eyes. Tears, I decided, concerned.
She could not breath correctly, and
I asked her what was wrong. She
solemnly passed me the papers
from my blood test.

One of the papers, obviously
a letter, did not belong in the
sheets of numbers and things I
did not understand. So I pulled
it out and began to read the
beautifully written letter, it’s ivory
sheen crinkling as I read each
word. Little did I know, things
were about to
change.
