I'll Paint You Wings.

Scars.

JACK
"Don't worry, I won't peek." I told Kay. I added a wink, for good measure. I turned around and walked back towards the front, stopping at my bunk. I sat down and I couldn't help but look. Her back was turned to me. Her shirt was off, but all I could see was her back, so I didn't feel too bad staring at her. She was thin, but still had curves. I couldn't help but notice a small tattoo of the band's skull in the middle of her lower back, which made me grin I allowed my eyes to drift up to her shoulders. But, what I saw made my jaw dropped. Slashes, horrible words, and X's made puckered scars on her back. SLUT. LIAR. COW. carved into her back. Tears sprang to my eyes. at the thought of this happening to her. I also saw a few fresh bruises, undoubtedly caused by that druggie. She began to put the shirt on, so I wiped the tears from my eyes and I walked back to the front of the bus.
A few minutes later, she came up to where I was sitting. It was obvious that she tried to cover the bruising on her face. I could still see a little of it, though. As we walked off of the bus and into the beating sun, my phone rang. ALEX flashed across the screen.
"I've gotta take this" I said.
"Hello?”
"Hey, we're almost back to the amphitheater. Meet us at the front in five?"
"Sure." I said. I hung up the phone and walked back to Kay.
"Alex and the rest of the guys are just now getting back. You wanna go and meet them?" I asked.
“Sounds like fun." She said, smiling up at me.
I casually took her hand and started walking to the front gate. It was smaller than mine and I couldn't help but notice how perfectly our hands fit together. This was, in fact, the second time I've held it. Woah, Barakat. You're being kind of cheesy. Tone it down, now.
We got there without any fangirl attacks, which was surprising, considering our set started in about an hour. I spotted Alex's pink fluff and saw Zack and Rian next to him.
"There they are," I said, pointing them out to Kay. "Do you see them?"
"Oh, yeah. Alex's pink hair is kinda hard to miss." She said with a cute chuckle.

ALEX
"Hey! There's Jack!" I said to Zack and Rian. "and a girl?"
"What?" Rian said. "Where?"
I pointed to the pair. "There! She's cute, too. Kinda tall."
"Is she wearing Jack's Boner shirt?" Zack asked, to no one in particular.
When we got to them, I could tell why Jack was with her. She was beautiful. Really pretty brown hair with a few reddish streaks and peircing green eyes. Small gauges and a nose peircing. She had the unusual, unexpected type of beauty.
"Who’s your friend, Barakat?" I said with an assuming smirk
"Guys, this is Kay." He said. His voice didn't reveal anything, so I made a mental note to grill him later.
JACK
"Who’s your friend, Barakat?" Alex said.
"Guys, this is Kay." I scanned their faces for any signs of approval or disapproval, but I got nothing. They were all studying her, which made me feel a pang of jealousy.
"Guys, we go on in forty-five minutes. We probably should head over." Rian, the most responsible of the band, gave us a warning look.
"You guys go on ahead. I'll catch up." They headed off towards the mainstage. I turned to Kay.
"Do you want to watch us play?"
"Of course. I'm kind of a huge fan, if you couldn't tell."
"I really couldn't. You've been really chill, unlike most girls."
"I'll have you know, Jack Barakat, I am not like most girls" She said with a wink and a joking grin that made my heart flutter slightly.
"You really aren't," I said, then quickly added, "So do you want to watch from back stage or front row? I can get you into either."
"I've always wanted to watch you guys from the very front."
"Sounds like a plan." I grabbed her hand and walked to the stage. The sun was beginning to set and I couldn't help but think how perfect this day was turning out to be.
