I'll Paint You Wings.

One Door Closes.

-KAY-
Jack was standing there, three stories below in the alleyway, tossing rocks up at my window. I slid up the glass and screen and leaned out.
"Hiya." He said into the phone and up at me.
"Hey there." I said with a grin. A small beep signaled he had hung up. "I thought you were supposed to be leaving?" I yelled down.
"Yeah, we're headed out now."
"Then why are you here?" I laughed.
Jack faked offence then said, "Alex wanted to pick up beer at the liquor store down the street." Nonchalantly, he added, "And I want you to come with me."
"What?" I exclaimed.
"Yeah! You're coming too! Pack your stuff!"
"Jack Barakat, do you have any idea how crazy you sound?"
"I know I sound crazy, don't you see what you do to me?" He smirked.
"Quoting your band's own lyrics won't help you one bit!" I jokingly scoffed.
"Just, consider it. Please? Do it for me." He pouted. "Can I just come up there, instead of yelling to you?"
"I guess so." I smiled. Jack Barakat wants in my apartment? Twist my arm. Ahaha. "Come on up."
I shut the window and closed the curtains. Flopping down on my unmade bed, I just considered my possibilities. On one hand, I have going with Jack and escaping reality for a few months. Prolonging the inevitable “get my life back together” phase I was bound to go through sometime soon. On the other, I stay here, work, and try to figure out what to do with my life. A few minutes later, I heard a light rap on the door. I stood up with a sigh and opened the door to a hopeful (and adorable) looking Jack.
I chuckled softly, then said, "You gonna come in so we can actually talk about this?"
His face lit up as he walked inside.
"Kay, just hear me out. I know I know I sound insane. I know we only met yesterday, but from the moment I saw you, I've liked you. I want to get to know you. To learn who you are. I want to know your whole story. It scares me how badly I want to learn you. Yeah, it sounds crazy, but it’s the truth. Please, please, come with me. I can't bear to leave you behind."
Needless to say, his whole speech thing kind of shocked me. I never had someone profess this kind of thing to me. It was all foreign territory. Maybe that's why I looked him in the eyes and said, "Okay, Jack. I'll come with you. And, I'll tell you why. You saved me from Sean. The way I feel when I'm around you is incomparable to how I felt around him. So, yes, I'll come with you." I giggled as Jack pulled me into a hug and kissed the top of my head.
"This is so awesome. Pack your shit! We gotta go! What can I do to help?" He asked, bouncing about the small apartment
"Um, go into my closet and get the green duffel bag off the shelf. Get the black Toms, the Converse, and the checkered Vans and throw them into the bottom." I walked into my small bathroom, filling a backpack with my shower stuff, my straightener and hair dryer, and my make up. When I walked back into main room, I found Jack hovering over my desk looking at an Art II book.
"You were an art student?"
"Yeah. I went to art school up through sophomore year, when Sean convinced me to drop out because 'I wasn't spending enough time with him'. But it;s whatever. I might go back, eventually."
"That's bullshit. Him telling you that, I mean. These drawings are really good."
I blushed furiously. I always got embarrassed when people complimented my art.
"Grab those sketchbooks and a pencil for me. I'll show you some more sometime." I smiled.
In about thirty minutes, Jack and I managed to pack my the stuff I'd need for the rest of the tour.
"You ready to go?" Jack asked.
"Yeah, I guess so." I said.
"Okay. Want me to take your bag down?"
"I can handle this if you carry the duffel bag." I said as I grabbed my backpack and purse.
"Okay. Lets head out. The bus is parked a little bit down the alley. I'll let Alex know we're on our way down." He said as he stepped into the hallway. I looked around my room for the last time, at least for a little while. Sighing, I grabbing my keys off the shelf and walking out. I shut the door of my old room and locked it.
I turned to face Jack. "You ready?"
"Of course." He grinned.
I took his hand as we walked down towards the elevator and away from my old life.
