It's Time to Rock the Dragon

Chapter fourteen

We all decided on a coffee place to sit down and discuss thing. Well, mostly Jess and Marik decided. I didn’t drink much coffee and neither did Gohan. I assume Ishizu had never had it before, but Marik said after he westernised himself the first thing he tried was coffee, after seeing it in magazines he used to sneak into the tomb as a small boy. And Jess, well she said she drank coffee every morning in order to survive high school for another day.

We were in a trendy café with couches next to the window, so we plonked ourselves onto them. There were three couches, so Gohan and I took up one, Jess and Marik took up the other as they were both gushing on about how ‘amazing’ coffee was, and Ishizu was on a couch by herself.

“So, let me start this out for you. I take it we’re in grave danger?” I asked Ishizu, knowing how her lectures always started.

“Yes, we are. It involves the millennium items, and the dragon balls as I previously stated.” Ishizu said.

“What are the millennium items?” “What are the dragon balls?” Gohan and I asked at the same time.

“I don’t know what either of them are.” Jess huffed.

“Yes, we do seem to have a cross section of who are usually involved in dramas. On one hand we have Gohan Son and his family who have dealt with the dragon balls and some threats to the earth. Then we’ve got Charlotte, who’s been friends with Yugi and the gang who has dealt with the millennium item dramas and other threats to the earth.” Marik explained.

“Then we’ve got Jess who hasn’t faced any of this and has no idea what’s going on.” Jess said sounding annoyed, talking in third person.

“It’s okay, Ishizu needs to explain each term to them both, so you’ll get your explanation.” Marik smiled, patting Jess on the knee.

“Yes. I think I shall start explaining the millennium items to Gohan. The millennium items are mystical items that were created 5,000 years ago by the ancient Egyptians. These Egyptians played shadow games, until the Pharaoh locked up the darkness into these seven items. A lot of power is held within these items, and if all seven fall into the wrong hands, they will harness the greatest power this earth has ever seen and have the ability to end the world.” Ishizu explained to Jess and Gohan.

“No offense, but its kind of hard to believe you. My dad has been protecting the world since he was a boy, and I’m sure if something as great as this existed he’d know about it.” Gohan weakly smiled.

“Ah yes, I thought you might be like that. Mr. Popo warned me about this day.” Ishizu smiled back.

“You know Mr. Popo?” Gohan asked.

Who the hell is Mr. Popo? What does he have to do with the millennium items?

“Yes, I have met Mr. Popo a few times. My father had a few meetings with Kami a long time ago regarding these items. The keeper of the Pharaoh’s tomb always had to have regular contact with the guardian of the earth, as the guardian of the earth originally appointed the keeper of the tomb. When Dende took over the job as guardian of the earth a little of this was explained to him, but Cell took higher priority over the millennium items at that point in time. It was also before the millennium puzzle was solved. Since then, Mr. Popo was let’s say the admin of the items. However, now that the pharaoh is back, there are no tomb keepers so his work is done.” Ishizu explained, taking a drink of water after her lecture.

“Okay, and what did Popo say to you regarding me?” Gohan asked, cocking up an eyebrow.

“I saw him not too long ago to tell him of this grave danger I can feel. He was the one who told me to approach all who have dealt with and protected the millennium items first, and then to get into contact with those who have dealt with the dragon balls and have pure hearts who will protect the earth. He said that your group might have trouble believing this, as the millennium items have not been detected from your group.” Ishizu stated.

“But why is it outside our radar? I’m sure me and my pals could easily just defeat the evil ones after these items?” Gohan asked.

“Because you can’t just go and beat the crap out of these people!” Marik said, sounding frustrated with Gohan’s logic.

“I think I understand.” I butted in.

“Yes, Charlotte I believe you know the answer and is probably best suited to tell Gohan this. Please continue.” Ishizu stated.

“Okay, well. Gohan, the millennium items have nothing to do with the martial arts, and even strength. It’s all about magic, skill and knowledge. The only way to win over a millennium item to have its power is to beat the owner of the item in a game of duel monsters. If you don’t beat the person through duel monsters and physically take the item from them, it will do nothing.” I explained.

“So it’s a game of strategy and not strength, right?” Gohan asked, starting to wrap his head around it.

“Exactly! Look, no offense, but can you imagine your dad strategically duelling his way to win back a millennium item?” I asked Gohan, and Gohan burst out laughing.

“Yes, it’s only been a recent problem too. The millennium puzzle being solved and unleashing the Pharaoh is what started these problems, and that only happened two years ago. The last problem the Z Warriors had to face was Cell, which was eight years ago.” Ishizu explained.

“Okay, I think I get it now. I think you should explain the dragon balls to Charlotte.” Gohan said, wrapping an arm around me and pulling me into him.

“And me! I don’t get what ANY of you are talking about, you sound like nut jobs.” Jess huffed.

Ishizu turned to me and smiled.

“Like the millennium items, there are seven dragon balls. And like the millennium items, if you get them all together they harness a great power. If somebody manages to collect all seven dragon balls then they get three wishes. After each wish the dragon balls all scatter around the earth again, and cannot be used or even found for a year as they’re made into stone.” Ishizu explained.

“Three wishes wow, like a genie?” I asked.

“No, it’s a dragon that comes when all seven dragon balls are called and the dragon is called upon. And yes, a person gets three wishes however there are a few restrictions. If you are wishing to revive a large number of people, you only get two wishes because of how much power is required for reviving people. You may also only wish for what is under the dragon’s power, which is the power the creator of the dragon balls have. There are also a certain few things you can’t wish for, such as the death of somebody, creating love or a wish that has previously been granted by the dragon. If you wish to revive somebody from death, they have to have died from unnatural causes.” Ishizu went on to explain.

“Wow, that’s so amazing. I can’t believe such a thing exists, and I can’t believe THEY went under our radar either. You’d expect a lot of the bad guys after the millennium items to use the dragon balls for something.” I replied.

“You see, that’s the problem.” Marik said.

“Yes, my brother is right. Usually the earth has been in balance because most evil know about one or the other. No one who has ever threatened to take over the world and gain power for the wrong reasons has known about both of these magical items. However one evil organisation has recently learned about the other one they didn’t know about, and it has the ability to create chaos.” Ishizu explained.

Gohan and I looked at each other. Which evil organisation? The Rare Hunters broke up, and Industrial Illusions has gone back to being just a duel monsters company.

“What evil organisation? The only one I can think of on my end is the Red Ribbon Army. But my father killed off most of the army when he was a kid, and the androids killed off Dr. Gero the remaining member eight years ago. Android 18 is now on our side, and I’m sure Android 17 holds no grudges now that we removed the bomb from his chest and gave him a real reason to exist.” Gohan explained.

If it’s not an organisation we’ve both faced before, maybe it’s a new one? I don’t know, but I’m really scared. Both of the items alone hold enough power to conquer the world, so when these items are combined we’re in real trouble.
