It's Time to Rock the Dragon

Chapter three

Finally at lunchtime, Jess was able to give me a tour of the school. We stayed in the lecture theatre for every class, and that was something I was missing about Domino.

It was a normal school with normal classrooms. Unless you had a double of something, every time the bell rang you’d be able to go for a small walk, get a drink or maybe stop off at the toilet. Then there was new scenery and new faces in your class, keeping you fresh and ready for the lesson ahead.

At Orange Star, we stayed in the same lecture theatre. There was no walk in-between classes, no chances to get a drink and the same people surrounded you in every class. I was starting to get home sick until lunchtime snapped out of it

Jess and I didn’t talk much in class. We made short talk talk in-between switching lecturers, but that was it. After Videl, Gohan, Sharpner and Erasa had left, it seemed as if she changed though. Her ‘cold I-don’t-give-a-crap’ demeanour changed, and she seemed a lot nicer and less scary.

Her anger quickly flared up when she led me to my locker, and Gohan was standing at his locker, which was right next to mine. She quickly stormed off, saying that she’d meet up with me later.

“Hey again.” Gohan weakly smiled.

“Hey! Um, sorry about how my temper got the better of me before.” I said, quickly realising I was nasty to his friend.

“No worries. Videl and I aren’t really on good terms, uh since the break up.” He nervously informed me.

“Oh, you guys dated? If it’s awkward, why do you hang out with her?” I asked curiously.

“We broke up a few months back. And I hang out with her, because to be honest I really never made any new friends.” Gohan admitted.

“Awww. Well, count me as your friend.” I grinned to Gohan.

He looked shocked, as if I had just done something completely unexpected. But why shouldn’t I consider Gohan a friend? He was nice, after all. It’s Videl who was the bitch. I’m sure if I kept Jess and Gohan separate it wouldn’t be a problem.

“Being my friend may not be the safest thing.” Gohan said, his smile quickly leaving his face.

Psh kid, after being friends with Yugi Motou I can take anything.

“I’ll take my chances.” I smirked back.

Before Gohan could reply, Videl grabbed his arm and dragged him off, muttering something about how he can’t associate with losers. I shrugged my shoulders, emptied my books into my locker, got out my lunch and walked the hallway to meet up with Jess.

I was not expecting what I saw. I saw Jess at her locker, but a guy had wrapped his arms around her. He had dark brown hair like Seto’s, but it was a bit longer and a lot shaggier. He also had soft brown eyes to go with his hair.

Jess has a boyfriend? Or at least a potential love interest? Wow, she seemed too cold and too rebellious for that stuff.

She must have noticed the odd look I was giving her, as she decided to speak up.

“Charlotte, this is my boyfriend. Jasper Night. Jasper, this is the new girl. Charlotte Judge.” Jess waved.

“Sup?” Jasper asked, nodding his head.

“Uh, hey.” I replied back, taking his response as a greeting rather than a question.

They were obviously waiting for me, as they began to walk off as soon as I arrived. I followed them both nervously, until we reached the cafeteria.

They sat on an empty table, and I followed suite.

“Um, not to be rude or bitchy or anything, but is anyone else going to join us?” I asked them.

Jasper looked frightened, and he went pale as he shook his head feverishly at me, as if telling me to stray away this topic.

But Jess spoke up anyway.

“No. We’re not. I was friends with the geek squad over there,” she said, angrily pointing towards Videl’s table with Gohan, Erasa and Sharper “but that was before Gohan came. We’re better off without them.”

Haha, she said geek squad. Just like Seto, cue a sigh. I knew it was wise not to press on with the subject, so I stayed silent and allowed Jasper to create all conversation.

A while into lunchtime, Jess broke out of concentration and pointed to the bulge in my hip pocket.

“Hey, what’s in your pocket?”

“Oh, um. It’s nothing. Really.” I embarrassedly said.

However, Jasper jumped over the table and grabbed the thing I was hiding out of my pocket. My duel monsters deck.

“What’s that?” Jess asked, very amazed.

“Um, it’s a game called Duel Monsters. It’s really popular back in Domino. I wasn’t sure if it would be popular here at this school or not, so I bought it anyway. I guess when you live in a city named after the world’s greatest martial arts hero, people aren’t so much into card games.” I nervously said, fidgeting around in my chair.

“Wow, this looks pretty intense. This is better than hearing about martial arts, can you teach me how to play?” Jess asked, hanging onto every word I had said.

“Sure!” I beamed.
