It's Time to Rock the Dragon

Chapter thirty five

“Charlotte. Hi, wow. Didn’t expect to see you here.” Gohan greeted me, scratching his neck awkwardly.

I didn’t blame him for being nervous. This is the first time we had spoken since the incident. What’s more is that I was waiting outside his locker.

I obviously wanted to talk and it could only go two ways. I’d either forgive him, or call things off.

“Hi Gohan. I baked this for you. Um, I know it’s not much considering you have a massive appetite. But uh, yeah. I know any food is good food in your books.” I nervously smiled, handing him a box.

He peered into the box, and smiled.

“This cake looks delicious. That was really kind of you. I can’t wait to taste it. I’ll save it for lunch.” Gohan stated, opening his locker and putting the cake at the top. He snatched his books, and shut the door.

“Do you maybe…want to walk to our first class together?” I asked Gohan.

“Of course!” he quickly agreed.

“So before you ask or need to say anything, I forgive you. I’m also sorry for being a drama queen,” I started, and cut Gohan off before he could say anything “Let’s never mention it again, and drop it.”

“Okay. How has your week been?” Gohan asked me.

“Miserable. I missed you.” I pouted, embracing him quickly.

“Come on! Stop the public displays of affection and off to class!” A grumpy tired looking teacher complained and I rolled my eyes.

“We’ll catch up later, okay?” I asked Gohan, who nodded.

We then headed into separate directions, and I walked into my homeroom.

I noticed four familiar faces in my homeroom, faces I see everyday. I said my morning routine to them.

“Hi Joey, Yugi, Tea, Tristan. Get up to much last night?” I asked them, taking my usual seat next to Joey.

…wait, what?! I haven’t been in the same homeroom, or even lived in the same city as those three since last school year!

“Nothin’ much. You know, the usual. Moved cities for a few weeks.” Joey teased, but couldn’t hold back his silly laughter.

“What’s going on?” I smiled.

“We missed the fourth person in our group. We also grew a little tired of Domino, and liked our adventure. Sooo…we decided to do a short exchange in Satan City.” Tea explained to me.

“But, Satan City is still in Japan. How is it an exchange if you don’t leave the country?” I asked the group.

“For geography class, if we relocate for a few weeks, it boosts up our end of year assessment as we experienced another city’s culture. The teacher approached Joey and Tristan, saying it was one of the only ways they will pass. So we decided to come here. Tea and I would never let our friends experience this alone, and what’s better than experiencing it with you also?” Yugi explained to me, smiling as much as the others.

I almost began to cry. This was so sweet of them! I can’t believe I tried to forgot about them. I know that we will be friends forever.

When the end of fourth period bell rang, it was lunch time. Joey and Videl were in this class with me, and it felt good to finally be able to talk to someone during history.

Videl and I got along really well when we weren’t bitchy to each other. It made me feel so stupid. I let a good friendship get delayed for a long time just because I held a grudge. But it was better late than never.

As both their lockers were a while away from mine, I told them that I would meet them in the cafeteria.

I opened my locker door and immediately noticed the a note stuck to the inside door.

Meet me outside your school at the start of lunch, out the front gate.

SK.

I thought it was creepy to begin with, but then chuckled to myself when I realised how Seto Kaiba it was.

I didn’t think twice as I found myself trotting down the path to the front gate, and as promised, Seto was standing there.

“Hey, how are you?” I asked smiling, even though I felt awkward, as I didn’t know how to greet him, or what he wanted.

“Mmm, I’m alright I guess. I wanted to know if you ended up forgiving that kid.” Seto asked, getting straight down to business.

“Um…yeah, I forgave Gohan. We’re kinda back together now…” I trailed off.

Last night Seto hit me with a bombshell, as subtly as he could. He admitted he had feelings for me once, and if we both let them, they would grow back. It was his way of letting me know I could pick Gohan, or I could pick him.

I no longer hated Seto, but everything I felt towards him now was platonic. The reason why I hurt so much from what Gohan did to me was because I felt like he didn’t care about me, like the way I cared about him.

And right now, I was letting Seto know that I picked Gohan over him. Awwwwkwardddd.

“Heh, I knew you would. Congratulations and all that, I know he makes you happy.” Seto replied.

I looked down and shifted my feet. This was so awkward. I had no idea what to say next.

“What are you going to do now?” I asked Seto.

“Well, I have a Capsule Corporation meeting in ten minutes, so I am going to leave very soon. I just wanted to come by and see you, I was curious to see whether you’d take the dweeb back.” Seto smirked, going back to his usual self.

“I see. Well, good luck. You’ve already scammed them, so you don’t need it. We’ll keep in contact, okay?”

“I’m holding you to that, Judge. I don’t know about most of your geeky friends, but with the time I got to spend with Videl, she seems like an interesting person. Dare I say we all should ‘hang out’ sometime?” Seto asked, using his fingers as quotation marks.

“Yeah, that sounds great. I should probably get back to the cafeteria too, before everyone calls the cops on me. We’ll talk soon.” I said to Seto.

Seto nodded, and offered his hand to shake. I caught him off guard by embracing him in a friendly hug, before running in the opposite direction.

Videl, Seto and I in a friendship group? Who saw that one coming.

I made my way into the cafeteria, and was surprised at what I found. Every single person was crowded around two people who were face to face. Joey and Jess.

When people are face to face ‘duelling’ in Satan City, it’s usually a martial arts duel. But Joey and Jess were playing duel monsters, and the entire school was actually interested.

“Ha! I knew you’d be too cocky and play a high levelled monster like that! I play my baby: my Red Eyes Black Dragon. It scorches your monster, and brings your life points down to zero!” Joey bragged, grinning as he watched Jess’ mouth fall wide open.

Heaps of people then approached Joey.

“Wow! This game is so cool! Where can I buy those cards?”

“You make it look so easy!”

Joey then began to take notice of a cute junior girl who asked him to teach her.

“Of course. I can be your private tutor.” He replied.

“How do you think Joey will react when people realise it’s actually Yugi who is king of games?” I asked Tristan and Tea, sliding next to them.

“Not very well. This is his dream come true, only to be short lived.” Tristan replied.

Gohan came to my side, and silently hugged me as I spoke to my long-term friends. He was letting me have my moment with them, he knew me well.

I watched the entire school hanging onto Joey’s word, and smiled. This would start a duel monster craze, and would leave a little piece of Domino in Satan City, which would last even after my friends went back home.

It’s weird that I was so keen to come to Satan City to leave my old life behind. I had started a new life, but now I could have the best of both worlds by combining the best parts of both of them.

This story was finished a long time ago, just reposting to Mibba. The ending was rushed and I knew that at the time, but I became so emotionally distant from this story and I had to kill it before I got to my goal of 40. For a story that was wrapped up quickly I must say I'm pretty happy with it.

Also I know you can't attack on the same turn you summon a monster, but when I was a kid and played Yu-Gi-Oh! we always disregarded the rules, and they do it on the show too so meh.
