Chapter Twenty One
“Mikey,” I called as I came over towards him, on my knees looking at him. He was on his stomach and he wasn’t moving, “Mikey,” I called again and shook him a little, “Come on, Mike, get up.”
“Maggie,” I heard and saw Jack and Eric, two trainers, rushing over. I stood up and moved out of the way, I heard Jack say that he didn’t look how that hit looked and I just stared down at Mike.
I heard my name and saw James coming over towards me, he put his hand on my shoulder and we both looked down towards Mike, he still wasn’t opening his eyes, still wasn’t getting up. I turned my head and saw Kokorin, he was talking to Giroux. I glared at him and I went forward only to feel hands on my shoulder.
“Bella,” I saw Max, “Just breathe.”
“Max,” I growled and looked at him, “Get out of my way.”
“Maggie, you’re not thinking, don’t do it,” Max said and I looked back towards Mike. They were bringing the cart onto the ice and going to carry him off.
‘…Mikey…’ I thought and turned towards him, feeling Max’s hand leave my shoulder. I watched as they rolled him over and slipped the board under my brother, ‘…Mikey…’ I took a stride forward and watched him rolled off of the ice on the cart.
“He be ok, Mags,” Geno said as he came up behind me.
I looked towards the glass, he hit it right as the bench ended and the glass behind, ‘…Something’s not right…’ I thought and then looked back towards Kokorin, he was looking at me. I glared at him and he just stared.
“Maggie,” I heard and felt someone pulling my jersey, “Come on, Mags.”
I shoved whoever it was off and went to go forward, but felt more arms around my arms, “Think about this, Mags, don’t do it.”
“Let me go!” I growled and tried to move forward, but I saw Sidney appear in front of me.
“We’ll get them back,” Sidney said and I glared over his shoulder and felt myself being pulled and pushed back towards the bench.
-Kane-
“Fuck! That doesn’t look good!” Saad said and I watched the screen as Mike went down hard.
We watched as they just had the camera pointed towards that whole area of the ice, being sure to get Giroux talking to Kokorin, the two trainers looking after Mike, Neal next to Maggie. And then I watched as Maggie took a step away from Neal only to be stopped by Talbot.
“We’re all waiting for it,” Jon said and I nodded my head.
“Waiting for what?” one of the rookies asked.
“Mags is gunna go after Kokorin,” I said not bothering to look away from the screen, just waiting for it.
“No way! She’s gunna get hurt,” Saad said.
“At this point, I don’t think she cares,” Corey said, “That hit didn’t look good and showing how Mike wasn’t even moving- She’s goin’ after him.”
-Maggie-
Kokorin was in the penalty box, though two minutes for boarding didn’t seem like it was good enough and a lot of people weren’t happy with that call, me especially. When the two minutes were up, I made sure I was on the ice. He went right at me; he grabbed my jersey and pulled me a little. Whistles were blown and I threw my gloves down and went right at him. I was about to hit him when Geno and James grabbed me and pulled me back.
“Let me go!” I growled and James had my arms pinned down.
“Mags, we’re probably saving your ass right now,” James growled as he trying to hold me.
Kokorin came at us and threw a punch, I moved my head and he hit James, who let me go to help himself. I kicked into the ice and shoved Kokorin back, grabbed his jersey and just started throwing my fist. I was pulled back and saw refs coming in-between us. He pushed the ref back against me and sandwiched the ref and threw a punch at my head, it was a good thing I still had my helmet on. I just started throwing my fists, not sure where or who it was hitting, pretty sure I got the ref a few times, but I was in the middle of a blind rage.
I was being pulled back again and saw that basically both teams were off the bench and ready to fight one another. I was pulled back and I saw Marc moving in front of me, basically trapping me between me and the net. His helmet was propped onto his head and he was trying to get me to breathe.
The fans were going nuts, enjoying the fact that there was about to be an all-out war on the ice between the Penguins and Flyers.
-Seguin-
“Well there goes her being smart about this,” Lucic said as he took a swig of his beer.
“I didn’t think her brother was going to be hurt like that,” Chara said and we all nodded our heads and watched as the refs were probably wishing there was more of them as the whole Penguins and Flyers team was on the ice pushing, shoving and some even throwing punches at each other.
Fleury had Maggie trapped between him and the net. I knew that she was trying to get out, we were pretty proud of her when she got a few good punches at Kokorin before the refs stepped in, and then we felt bad for that ref.
“Oh shit!” Hortan yelled and I saw that Maggie got away from Fleury and was charging towards Kokorin, who was trying to be escorted off the ice.
“Fuck, Maggie, don’t do it!” Tuukka yelled, throwing his hands on top of his head.
-Kane-
“Oh, no, no, no, no,” I was as the ref was in-between Kokorin and Maggie, his arms out wide and he was trying to make sure no one got any blows. I knew that she was probably going to be ejected from the game, but at this point, I don’t think she cared all too much.
“Oh shit!” Jon said as Kokorin basically shoved the ref out of the way.
“OH SHIT!!!” we all yelled as we watched as Maggie throat punched him and he slipped and fell onto his back.
I laughed as Kokorin fell back onto the ice and Maggie was about to go back after him, but she was grabbed by Flyers Eric Wellwood and shoved into the boards. She just basically started another fight with him and then they were both pulled apart by their Captains.
“What a mess,” Sharp said and I nodded my head.
We watched as Crosby pulled Maggie towards the door next to the Penguins bench. The backup goalie, Johnson, opened the door and Crosby pushed Maggie off and then watched her head down the hallway.
-Maggie-
After Sidney forced me off of the ice and basically ordered me to go to the locker room, I stomped down the hallway, really pissed off and made my way to the locker room, I wanted to know if Mike was all right. I walked into the locker room and stripped from my gear and made my way towards the medic room. I was surprised when the door was locked. I shook the door and tried to look through the blinds but I couldn’t see anything.
The door opened and Doc looked at me, “Maggie.”
“Is he all right?” I asked quickly and Doc looked at me, he didn’t say a word, “DOC! Is Mikey all right?” I heard someone crying in the room and Doc sighed and opened the door and I looked in to see Emma standing next to Mike, she was holding his hand, “Emma?”
She looked at me and then ran over and hugged me, she was crying hard against my shoulder and I didn’t know why. I pulled her away and looked at Doc and then looked towards Mike, I walked over towards him and looked down at him. They had his gear off and he was just in his spandex shorts and shirt. I looked down at him and saw no movement.
“Mikey,” I said slowly, my eyes wide and starting to tear up, my breathing started to get ragged, “He’s gunna- He’s gunna be ok, right Doc?” I asked and looked towards Doc to see him looking at the ground. My lip started to quiver and I was fighting back tears, not wanting to believe what was right in front of me, “Doc, he’s gunna be all right, right?”
“I’m so sorry, Maggie,” he said and then walked over towards me and placed his hand on my shoulder, “I looked over the tape, the only thing I could see was that it was an immediate hit to the neck when he hit the glass.”
“No,” I breathed and started to shake, tears falling down my face, “No, no, no, no,” I had my hands on Mike’s shoulders and was shaking him, “Mikey! Mikey, wake up! Please Mikey! You have to wake up!” I started pounding on his chest, “You have to wake up.”
-Kane-
“This is getting ridicules,” Brent said as we were still watching the refs try and break up the fight, they almost had it, but there were a few stragglers still fighting.
I felt my phone going off in my hands and looked down to see Maggie calling me. I hit answer and quickly put it to my ear, “Hey, are you all right?” I asked and I didn’t hear anything, Maggie was sniffling, that’s all I heard, “Maggie?” Jon looked at me and some of the other too when I said Maggie’s name. She muttered something, but I didn’t hear it, “What?”
“Mikey’s dead,” she said and I heard her start to cry and my eyes were wide and I looked at Jon who was looking at me confused.
“Mags,” I breathed and then got up from the couch and headed over towards Jon’s laptop and started to type in the travel site that we used for flights, “Sharpie, grab my wallet out of my jacket!” I called and Sharp nodded his head and headed over towards coat rack and looked for my coat, “I’ll be there by tonight, Mags.”
“I have to call my parents,” she said and I sighed.
“I’m so sorry, Maggie,” I said and leaned against the counter and covered my face, knowing that I had confused eyes looking at me.
“You have a game tomorrow,” she managed to get out.
“I’m coming, Maggie,” I said and then grabbed my wallet when Sharp gave it to me, “I’ll see you soon,” I said and we said our sad goodbyes.
“Dude, you can’t leave, we’ve got a game tomorrow,” Jon said as he looked at me and I just looked at him.
“Mike’s dead,” I said and Jon’s eyes widened.
“I’ll call Coach,” Jon said and I nodded my head and thanked him while I set up my flight for Pittsburgh.
‘…I’m coming, Maggie…’
