The Letters

May 18, 2003

Hello Mags,

I’m glad that I don’t sound funny or scary! Philadelphia can be really noisy sometime. Especially where we live because we live in a busy neighborhood.

But people shouldn’t make fun of your hearing aids. Your hearing aids are just another part of you, no matter what color they are. I don’t think you’re weird. I think you’re really cool because you’re different from everybody else.

I’m sorry that your sister can’t keep you included in their conversations. (Conversations means when they talk.) But my middle school isn’t too far from your elementary school. We can meet at Checkers or Popeyes and we can walk together home. I might not always understand you but I will definitely try.

From,
Gus

P.S. Your speech homework last night… remember Philadelphia is pronounced like Phil-luh-DEL-fee-uh.

Please note that the letters will be and are longer as the story go on. Maggie is only six so their vocabulary are limited. But as they get older, the letters will be longer.
