Steal a Kiss in the Dark

Alex's POV

November 14, 2013
Concert

"Hello, Charleston! How are you doing tonight?" I asked after we played Too Much. Right away the sold out crowd replied with a loud scream. "We have a few surprises for y'all tonight!"

Jack then walked over to me with his mic and draped his arm over my shoulder, "A few surprises including my dick possibly coming out."

"How your dick hasn't ended up online yet amazes me," I smiled shaking my head.

Jack chuckled, "It amazes us all."

Right then, I made eye contact with an all too familiar blonde. We smiled at each other before I introduced the next song, "This next song goes out to any of you that just get lost in the music."

The four of us then began to play Lost In Stereo. Throughout, I snuck glances at the girl I loved. During the second chorus, I couldn't help but laugh at the way Mia danced and sang along to the music.

I really wish we hadn't let her go.

After Lost In Stereo, we headed right into Weightless. The crowd reaction was amazing. Everybody was singing along and moving to the music. This is what I had hoped for when we started this band.

Five songs later, and we had finished playing Damned. Matt told us that this was the time we should get the guy on stage to propose to his girlfriend.

Jack laughed, "So it's not every day we get a crazy email from some dude we've never met."

"Dude," I laughed, "We get at least ten every day."

"Yeah, shut up and suck my dick," Jack laughed before continuing. "This email was different so would crazychris712@hotmail.com please make his way to the stage."

My heart shattered when I saw Mia give Chris a questionable look as he made his way to the stage. I had prayed it wouldn't be her. It took everything in me not to break down right then and there.

"Hey, I know you," Jack chuckled helping Chris up, "I paid for your dinner."

Just like that, Jack handed his microphone over to Chris.

"Mia Albrecht," he smiled catching the love of my life's eye, "We've been good friends for as long as you've lived down here. We've been more than just good friends for the past two years as of today. And well..."

I watched as he grabbed Mia's hand and helped her get onto the stage. This was hurting me so damn much.

Once he got Mia on stage he got down on his right knee and shoved a hand into his pocket. "Mia Nicole Albrecht, I'd be honored if you would be my wife. So, will you marry me?"

Mia's hands flew to her face, her eyes were filled with nothing but joy. Light tears trickled down her face, and she nodded her head.

Chris shot up and placed the pink and white diamond ring onto Mia's ring finger. He then wrapped her in a hug and repeatedly kissed her forehead.

I couldn't take it anymore. I couldn't watch her be pulled away from me. The only thing that I could think of was to run backstage and into the dressing room.

~Jack's POV~

Mia looked at me now. Her face changed from joy and happiness to worry in a split second. Quickly, she whispered something into Chris' ear before he went and got off the stage.

"Is it okay if I..?" Mia asked with her eyes pointing in the direction Alex had gone off to. I simply nodded.

~Alex's POV~

How could she marry him? What does he have that I don't? Why was I still hung up on a girl I hadn't seen in seven years?

"Alex," I heard Mia lightly say as she knocked on the door.

"What? Why don't you just go run off with Mr. Perfect?" I snapped at her.

She then appeared in front of me and looked at me with pity. "Alex... what's going on with you? In all the years I'd known you never acted like this."

I sighed, "I realized too late Mia. The day the guys and I were driving away from you is when I realized."

"Realized what, exactly?"

"I realized... I realized that I loved you, Mia. Now... Now I've clearly lost any chance with you."

"I wish you had told me before..." she sadly sighed. "I loved you, Alex. Why do you think I opted to go to your house late at night instead of Jack's?"

I choked back tears, I was now realizing I once could have been with this beautiful girl. Once upon a time she could have been mine. Maybe, just maybe, she would have stayed in Baltimore if we had been together.

I now lifted my head slightly to look into her blue eyes. While doing so, I couldn't help but chuckle when I realized she was still wearing the necklace I gave to her when we were seventeen. "You still have it?" I asked. Mia gave me a half smile and a nod before grabbing the pendant and holding it in her hand.

"Of course, I have it. I still have the autographed poster and letter you sent me from the first tour," she smiled and laughed. "I think I'm coming back up to Baltimore for Christmas this year. Chris is staying down here with his family. The five of us definitely need to catch up after our years of separation."

"Agreed," I smiled at her before handing her my phone. "The guys and I kinda lost your number. Could I please get it again?"

She giggled, "Of course, hon." I watched her type in her number before taking a selfie to set as her contact picture. "Now go and finish the show, because Lord knows Jack is being weird without the lead singer to sing the next song."

"Fine," I smiled sticking my tongue out at her. Holding my hand out to Mia, she took it, and I wrapped my arm around her shoulders before we walked back on stage. I still felt jealous but I continued to smile even though she went and stood next to Chris again.

"Sorry about that," I laughed, "I just needed to get a drink. Speaking of drinks... Stella, this song goes to you!"

The guys and I then began playing Stella, of course.

We continued the rest of the show, and it ended up being one of the best shows we'd done so far this tour. I was more excited about hanging out with Mia for New Years and Christmas. That's all I needed with her.

"Good night Charleston! See you again next time!" Jack yelled after Dear Maria. The four of us then walked off the stage, and right away I pulled my phone out to send Mia a quick text.

Hello Mia, it is I, William, and I was wondering if you would enjoy coming backstage with your besties. Kayyy byeee! I smiled to myself as I typed out the stupid message. Within minutes I heard Mia.

"William!" I never understood why she did it, but I enjoyed when she jokingly called me by my middle name. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

"I missed my best friend!" I smiled hugging Mia as Chris shot daggers at me.

Letting go of me she repositioned herself, once again, next to Chris. "We weren't best friends, Sir. Jacky and I were best friends. You were just the tag along."

"Bitch," I joked back at her.

"Lemme see the ring," Rian asked. Almost instantly, Mia held her left hand out for all to see the diamonds resting on her fourth finger.

Jack smiled, "You did well with this ring, Chris."

Questions:

1. Any suggestions on what to have in the upcoming chapters leading to Christmas?
2. Was it childish for Alex to go off stage when Chris proposed?
3. What do you think will happen tomorrow(in the story) when the guys and Mia all hang out?
