"What's happening to me?" I demanded. "It feels like I'm breaking apart. You are a killer."
"What happened to you was tragic," John murmured soothingly.
Fucking prick.
"You're such an asshole," I said.
"Yet you keep me close. I stabbed you, Eden. I gave you darkness you've never felt before. You should be thanking me."
"For what?" I hissed, gripping the tree I stood by for support. "You murdered my friend and probably countless others, and for what?"
"For you, darling," he replied. "This has always been for you. Oh, don't cry. You know how much I hate that. Now clean yourself up and go back to the good doctor. He's worried."
"You're delusional." My breathing hitched and I nearly dropped the phone.
"But you can't stay away," he answered, and hung up.
I closed my eyes, took a breath, willing myself to move. Devon was only a few feet away. I could go back to him, be safe, normal. But something inside pulled me toward John. It was sick, I was sick, and things weren't getting any better.
