Manage Me, I'm a Mess

I swear we'll make it right

(a week later)

'Where have you been?' Jack asks, sitting up in bed as soon as I walk in,
'Walking.' I whisper and get into bed without looking at him,
'I was worried.' he breathes,
'Im sorry.' I mumble,
'Alex are you okay?' he asks softly,
'Yeah.' I whisper but my voice cracks as a tear rolls down my cheek,
'C-Can I come over there?' he sighs,
'O-Ok-Kay.' I mumble sadly, he gets out of bed and rushes over to me, getting in under my duvet and wrapping his arms around my torso,
'What are you doing?' I ask, pressing my back against his chest,
'Comforting you. Youre upset and I don't like it.' he whispers,
'Thank you.' I breathe,
'Can you tell me what's wrong? Has someone upset you? Is there anything I can do?' he asks quickly,
'Jack, calm down, people have just been dickish since I started the school.' I chuckle,
'Is that it? I can fix that. Make it known that you're my best friend... Sort of my brother... They'll leave you alone after that.' he says proudly,
'Thanks. And there is something else but I can't tell you that... I'm your best friend?' I ask,
'Yeah... I see you as my best friend. We just click Lex. I mean, how many people can know each other for a week and be comfortable cuddling in bed?' Jack chuckles,
'Jack, I've been to 6 foster homes in my life and this is the most comfortable I've ever felt.' I whisper,
'Good. I hope you stay Alex.' he says softly,
'Depends if your parents want me to... I have a history of stuff Jack... I might tell you one day but it's the reason everyone gives me up.' I sigh,
'Is it mental stuff?' he asks,
'Yeah.' I whisper,
'Dont worry, mum and dad won't give you up for that. They still love me and keep me here.' he says casually and I look back at him,
'What?' I ask,
'Maybe I'll tell you one day.' he whispers, 'just know that they won't give up on you. Get some sleep lex.' he adds and I nod,
'Night Jack.' I whisper,
'Good night Alex.' he says softly.

(two weeks later)

'Alex?' a voice asks and I look up to see Zack,
'Oh hey bro.' I smile,
'Are you okay? Why are you on your own?' he asks,
'Jack didn't come in today and I couldn't find you or Rian.' I chuckle,
'Wheres Jack? Rian went home early today.' he shrugs, sitting down with me,
'Jack said he couldn't tell me but he said that if I said Leanne that you'd understand.' I say softly,
'Oh right, okay.' he nods and I smile sadly, feeling slightly left out,
'It's alright. Don't worry.' he smiles reassuringly and I nod, 'you look upset, are you okay bud?' he asks and I nod again,
'Im just tired.' I whisper.

(later on)

'Hey bud, how was school?' Jack asks when I walk into our room,
'Shit.' I mutter, throwing my bag onto my bed and walking over to him, he holds his arms out and I sit down next to him and lean against his chest,
'What happened?' he asks,
'People are just horrible.' I whisper,
'I know bud. But you can talk to me and I'll help you as best I can.' he sighs,
'I'm a foster kid. People are gonna hate me for that reason alone. I'm used to it, don't worry about me.' I smile softly,
'Im glad you're here. You're not a foster kid anymore. It's just like having my best friend live with me.' he grins,
'You're adorable.' I chuckle,
'Do you want to know where I was today?' he asks,
'Kinda, yeah.' I whisper,
'Leanne is my therapist. I have counselling sessions every Tuesday, they're normally after school but it had to be during school today. I'm a recovering anorexic Alex.' He whispers and I hug him tightly, 'Thats why my parents will not give up on you, okay? No matter what they find out about you, they will always be there. They love you.' he says softly and kisses my forehead,
'Please tell me you're okay.' I whisper,
'Im better. I still can't eat full meals and I still count calories but I don't starve anymore.' he explains and I nod.
