Sinister

Static

I was normal a few hours later. Scott was sitting beside me, and I was curled into his side, still in the hotel room. My head throbbed, so I didn't move too much. Everything was so quiet, I wondered if he was asleep.

"I thought you were dead," Scott said, his voice thick.

"What happened?" I asked.

"You — those things, whatever they were, took your sight. You told me they take things from you, so that you'll listen to them. But who are they?"

"I don't know," I whispered. I gripped the plain white bedsheets in my hand and twisted nervously. "This is new. I don't know what they are, but I know they're serious. They're not like the ones in my visions. These are...different."

"Are they dangerous?" Scott's eyes were dark. "They hurt you once."

"Scott."

He sighed angrily.

"Charlotte, are they dangerous?"

I flinched at his tone. It was rare that he snapped at me, but I knew this was a serious situation. But before I could answer, my cell phone rang. It was probably something about the case. I twisted around Scott and picked it up.

"Hello?"

"I know where you are."

His voice was taunting, amused.

Then there was only static.
