You Are Not Alone

Back to Normality

Lily's POV

Lily was on her way home after a long shift at the diner. It was now October, and it had been three months since she had left Neverland. She and Michael were still going strong, but they missed each other like crazy. Thankfully, they still talked on the phone every single day. Sometimes they would talk multiple times a day and that wasn't counting the text messages.

Even from a distance, Michael had proved himself to be the best and most supportive boyfriend Lily could ask for. He always sent her a text to say good morning and they would either text or talk on the phone during her lunch break. Every night, before bed, the couple would talk on the phone. He would always send her a positive message any time he knew she had an audition. Lily couldn't help but smile as she thought about Michael.

Speaking of auditions, Lily still had yet to land a part in a Broadway show. It was hard to not get discouraged, but Michael was always there for her. Any time she was ready to throw in the towel, there he was, telling her how talented she was. He would always remind her that anything worth having took a lot of hard work and patience. She was definitely being tested in the patience category, but she couldn't give up. After all, Broadway was her dream.

Lily was glad she did not have any auditions or errands to run today. She had been awake for hours and on her feet for most of the day at work. She just wanted to go home and take a shower. Having no plans for the rest of the day, Lily had every intention of having take out and watching cartoons all evening.

Once Lily made it to her apartment, she unlocked her door. Stepping inside, she closed it behind her and locked it. Throwing her keys down on the table, she took off her coat and hung it on the hook next to the front door. Her purse followed, along with her shoes. Walking down the hallway to her bathroom, Lily stripped off her uniform and turned on the shower. Once the water was hot, she stepped in and relaxed as it rained down on her tired muscles.

After spending more time than was necessary in the shower, Lily stepped out and wrapped a towel around her small body. Combing her hair, she then threw it up in a clip. Walking into her room, she switched on the light. After rummaging through her drawers, she pulled out her clothes. Since she was staying in for the night, she decided to skip the bra. Putting on a simple pair of purple, cotton panties, she threw on a pair of baggy gray sweats and a white v-neck t-shirt. It was actually Michael's, but he had given it to her, laughing when she pouted and said it would make being away from him easier.

Throwing her wet towel in the hamper, Lily made her way back to the living room. Grabbing her phone, she called her favorite pizza place. Once she had placed an order for a small, pepperoni pizza, she hung up. Grabbing the remote, Lily turned on the television and flipped to Cartoon Network. She smiled when she saw that Scooby-Doo was on.

After watching a couple episodes, there was a knock at the door. Grabbing some money from her wallet, Lily answered the door. Smiling at the teenage boy, she handed him twenty dollars, telling him to keep the change. He thanked her as he handed her the small pizza box. Saying goodnight, she closed the door and sat the box on her coffee table. Going into the kitchen, Lily grabbed some napkins and a can of Coke from the refridgerator. Settling down on the couch, she dug into her dinner.

After she had finished eating, Lily put away the leftover pizza. Once she had cleaned up, she went back to the couch. Lying down, she continued to watch Boomerang. Some people liked to spend their evenings going out, drinking an d partying. Lily? She just liked to hang out and watch cartoons. It actually reminded her of the time she had spent with Michael. Pulling a throw off the back of the couch, Lily wrapped it around herself. She must have fallen asleep at some point, because when she woke, it was completely dark, save for the glow of the television. A few seconds later, she realized her phone is what had interrupted her slumber.

"Hello", Lily answered, clearing the sleep from her voice.

"Hey, babygirl", she smiled when she heard Michael's voice. "Did I wake you?"

"I must've fallen asleep. I was watching cartoons earlier", Lily replied.

"You're so cute", Michael said. She could hear the smile in his voice.

"How was your day, babe?" Lily asked him.

"It was okay. Had a business meeting, but that's it", Michael answered. "How was yours?"

"Long and exhausting, but it was good", she replied.

"I miss you", Michael said suddenly. Lily couldn't help but grin.

"I miss you, too, Michael", she replied in kind. "I wish you were here."

"Me, too, sweetheart. We'll work something out soon", Michael said softly.

"Promise?" Lily asked, sounding almost childlike.

"Cross my heart", Michael replied, giggling softly.

After talking for almost two hours, they said goodbye. Hanging up the phone, Lily set it on the small table in front of her. Returning to the position she was in before, she went back to watching cartoons. Dexter's Laboratory was on and she laughed as she watched one of her favorite childhood shows.

Almost an hour after ending her conversation with Michael, Lily's phone rang. She eyed it curiously, wondering who in the world would be calling this late. Figuring it was Michael, she was surprised when the caller I.D. read 'unknown'. Accepting the call, she put the phone up to her ear.

"Hello?" Lily greeted into the phone.

Whoever it was, didn't respond. So she tried again.

"Hello? Is anyone there?" Lily asked again.

Still nothing. Although, Lily raised an eyebrow when she heard the faint sound of breathing.

"Who is this?" She continued. Lily was getting irritated by this point.

The person on the other end still didn't speak, but their breathing had become louder and heavier.

"Listen, you little pervert! I don't know who the fuck this is, but lose my number", Lily said, raising her voice slightly. Not waiting for an answer, she hung up, tossing her phone on the table.

Trying to forget the creepy prank call she had received, Lily decided to go to bed. Turning off the television, she made her way to the bedroom. Stripping down to her panties and Michael's t-shirt, she pulled back the covers. Once she was settled in, she turned off the light. Snuggling down into her blankets and pillows, she held the shirt to her nose. Inhaling Michael's scent, she fell into a deep sleep.

The next day, Lily had forgotten the weird occurance from the night before. Going through her daily routine, Lily got up and ate some leftover pizza for breakfast. Healthy? No. However, Lily really didn't care. Once she was finished, she threw on her work uniform and made her way to the diner. Greeting Carrie as she clocked in, Lily began a long day of waiting tables and praying that she wouldn't kill any stupid customers today.

During her lunch break, Lily called Michael. She had told him about the prank call she had received. Figuring it was just some kid being stupid, he told her not to worry. However, he made her promise to change her number if it continued. He had laughed, wondering if she had given the person a good tongue lashing, much like she had given him the first time he called her.

After finishing her shift, Lily climbed the steps to get onto the bus. A short ride later, she arrived back at her apartment. Just like every other day, she showered and got into her pajamas. After ordering Chinese takeout, Lily decided to watch a movie. Eating her kung pao chicken, egg rolls and lo mein, she pressed play as the opening to Peter Pan began to play. She had taken to watching it even more after visiting Michael. After eating about half the food, Lily put away the leftovers. It was pretty much an ordinary day, much like the day before.

Lily quickly finished up in the kitchen, then went to sit back down on the couch. Half way through the movie, her phone rang. Assuming it was Michael, she didn't bother to look at the caller I.D. Accepting the call, she pressed the phone to her ear.

"Hello", Lily greeted cheerily. She was always glad to hear Michael's voice.

Just like the night before, no one replied. Heavy breathing once again invaded Lily's ears. Pulling back, her eyes narrowed as she read 'unknown'.

"Okay, douchebag. I'm gettin' real tired of your shit. Stop fucking calling me or else", Lily yelled, letting the threat go unspoken.

"Or else....what?" Finally, someone answered. However, Lily's annoyance drained away as it was replaced with fear.
