You Are Not Alone

Nightmares and Confessions

Michael's POV

Michael was lying in bed, sleeping more soundly than he had in a long time. It was most likely thanks to the beautiful woman that was sleeping in the next room. Dreaming about her was nothing new to him lately, but now that she was here, his dreams were coming much more often. Lily had arrived at Neverland five days ago. They had spent almost every waking moment together. They had long talks, just getting to know each other better. They already seemed to be growing quite close. It would be hard to see her go.

Having a particularly pleasant dream about the blonde woman next door, Michael smiled in his sleep. However, his sweet dream was cut abruptly short when a voice cut through his consciousness. He recognized immediately that it belonged to Lily, but it wasn't the same sweet voice that Michael was used to. Finally being pulled from his dream, Michael's eyes slowly opened. It was then that he realized the voice was in fact Lily, but it was coming from the other side of the wall. He hadn't imagined it at all. Sitting up slowly, Michael stayed silent, trying to hear what Lily was saying. His eyebrows shot up when he heard her moaning his name.

Is she dreaming about me?! Michael thought, a blush staining his cheeks. He couldn't help but smile at the possibility though. Suddenly, he heard Lily moan again. This time, her voice was much more clear. It was then that he realized it didn't sound like a dream, so much as a nightmare.

"Michael? Michael, help me! No, please, Mason....No, DON'T!" By now, Lily was shouting in her sleep.

Who the hell is Mason? Michael couldn't help but feel jealous at the thought of Lily being involved with someone. His thoughts were cut short when she screamed.

Without another second's hesitation, Michael leaped from his bed, throwing open his door. Worried as he was, he didn't even bother to put on a shirt. Knocking hurriedly, Michael didn't receive an answer. Slowly, he opened the door and what he saw broke his heart.

Lily was thrashing around on the bed, tangled in the sheets. She was still moaning, pleading with 'Mason'. That's when he heard it. She whimpered, begging 'Mason' not to hurt her, that she didn't mean to make him angry. Apologizing in her sleep, Lily's head moved from side to side, as she was trapped inside her own head. Stepping closer to the bed, Michael could see her face in the glow of the moonlight. Tears stained her beautiful face.

By now, Michael was angry. He didn't know who 'Mason' was, but it was obvious that he had hurt Lily in the past. Michael's blood was boiling, listening to the woman, whom he had come to care for rather deeply, crying and begging in her sleep.

What kind of man puts his hands on a woman? Michael thought with disgust.

Not being able to handle seeing Lily in such distress, Michael grabbed her by the shoulders. Shaking her gently, he began to whisper to her. Begging her to wake up, Michael told her it was okay, that it was just a dream. Finally, Lily's eyes popped open. Suddenly, her shaking form was in his arms. Clinging to Michael like he was a lifeline, she cried into his chest. Stroking her hair as he held her tightly, Michael softly reassured her that she was safe and that he was there. Eventually her sobs turned to hiccups. Cupping her cheek, he lifted her face to stare into those blue eyes he loved so much.

"Are you alright? Do you want to talk about it?" Michael asked with concern. Lily shook her head.

"Not just now. I'm not ready", she said, biting her lip and looking back down.

"I understand. When you're ready, I'm a really good listener", Michael said, giving her a small smile.

"Thanks, Michael", Lily replied, returning the smile half-heartedly.

"Can I get you anything? A glass of water, maybe?" asked Michael.

"No, I think I'm okay", she declined, quietly. Nodding, Michael kissed her forehead. Standing up to go back to his own room, Michael stopped when he felt Lily's hand grab his.

"Wait!" Lily said, louder than she meant to. "Um, could you...do you think you could-" She began chewing on her lip nervously. "Uh, nevermind! Goodnight, Michael." He frowned at her unasked question.

"No, it's okay. What is it, sweetheart?" Michael asked kindly. Lily suddenly found the comforter on her bed rather interesting. Picking at a loose thread, she spoke quietly.

"I, uh...well, um", she sighed, seemingly embarrassed. "I was just wondering...couldyoustaywithme?" she had muttered the last part so quickly, Michael barely heard her. He couldn't ignore the way his heart fluttered at her request.

"Of course, sweetheart", Michael smiled down at her. As Lily made room for him, he slid under the covers. Opening his arms to her, Lily gladly accepted his comfort, allowing him to spoon her. Wrapping her in a tight embrace, Michael kissed the back of her head. "Would you like me to sing to you?" he offered.

"I'd like that", Lily whispered. Her hands were clasped onto Michael's forearm, which were wrapped around her front, just below her neck. His other arm was wrapped securely around her waist.

"Any requests?" Michael asked.

"Mmm, our song", Lily muttered, already half-asleep. Butterflies flew around Michael's stomach and he couldn't help but smile at what she said. He had secretly come to think of it as their song as well. Michael began to sing softly.

Another day has gone
I'm still all alone
How could this be
You're not here with me
You never said goodbye
Someone tell me why
Did you have to go
And leave my world so cold

Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away
Something whispers in my ear and says
That you are not alone
I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay

But you are not alone
I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
But you are not alone

Just the other night
I thought I heard you cry
Asking me to come
And hold you in my arms
I can hear your prayers
Your burdens I will bear
But first I need your hand
Then forever can begin

Everyday I sit and ask myself
How did love slip away
Something whispers in my ear and says
That you are not alone
I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay

You are not alone
I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart
You are not alone

Whisper three words and I'll come runnin'
And girl you know that I'll be there
I'll be there

You are not alone
I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay
you are not alone
I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart

you are not alone
I am here with you
Though you're far away
I am here to stay

You are not alone
I am here with you
Though we're far apart
You're always in my heart

By the time Michael had finished the song, Lily was snoring softly. One arm still wrapped around her petite body, he softly moved a strand of hair from her face with his other hand. She was absolutely breathtaking to him. When he had told Lily that she was the most beautiful creature he had ever seen, he meant it.

Michael loved her blonde hair. It was as if she had a halo glowing around her face. He loved her soft, flawless skin. There was no need for makeup, she was naturally beautiful. He knew she hated how short she was, but Michael thought it made her even more adorable, almost like a fairy! He loved her subtle curves. Michael often dreamed about what it would be like to run his hands over her body. Shutting down his train of thought, Michael had to adjust himself. He scolded himself for his thoughts, knowing Lily was trusting him to protect her while she slept.

However, as much as Michael was attracted to Lily's body, that wasn't what got to him the most. It was her eyes. He loved her beautiful blue eyes. They were such a clear blue. They were bluer than the sky on a bright, sunny day. They had such a warmth about them. Michael felt like he could see into her soul when he looked into her eyes. They never failed to captivate him.

Lily's soul. That was yet another thing on a very long list of things Michael loved about her. She had such a beautiful soul and a kind heart. She had cried when Michael told her about all the children he had met during his career. From cancer patients to other terminally ill children. Her kind, loving nature, and her apparent love for children. Everything about her was beautiful to him. She was perfect, in every way he could imagine.

Michael was momentarily distracted from his thoughts as Lily turned in his arms. He smiled as she buried her face in his shoulder. Tightening his hold on her, he kissed her temple softly and rubbed her back. It was at that very moment, Michael admitted something to himself. Looking down at the woman sleeping peacefully in his arms, he leaned down to her ear.

"I love you, you beautiful creature", with this whispered confession, Michael fell into a peaceful sleep.
