You Have My Attention

Contagious chemistry.

Remi knocked on Garrett's door nervously. She honestly didn't know what to say now that she was here. It was a stupid idea that she could now not back out of.

He opened the door, a surprised look on his face when he noticed her.

"Hi." He whispered out and she grinned, "Hey, so I don't really know why I'm here. Nick sent me to find out how you were because he was with Kayla and so yeah..." She fumbled out and he rolled his eyes, "He's an idiot. I told him I'm fine."

She nodded and he reached out grabbing her wrist, "Come in though."

She let him pull her in and she sat down unsure what to say. If he spoke she knew it would be sarcastic and she didn't know if that was ok or not.

"So why wouldn't you be ok?" She asked boldly and he say beside her, "I guess because I told him that I officially cut things off with Catherine."

The girl didn't bother to speak and he sighed, "I know you think I'm stupid."

"I never said that. We can all say what we want but we aren't you. We don't know what went on between you, or what you feel for her. It's always easier for people to judge when it's not them."

Garrett nodded as he stared at her blankly.

"I feel like I need to clarify some things to you. Just so you know, I'm not one of those desperate guys. I feel like it may have come off that way from what I said during our last conversation but that's not the case. I mean yeah, a part of me believes that I'll never find someone like her. Not the whole cheating part, but I mean, maybe not now but, at the beginning, she did love me and I know damn well I'm not easy to love. I'm nerdy as shit, I'm gone a lot, I'm not that attractive so yeah, maybe that's why I tried so hard for her or maybe it's simply because I loved her, but I'm also not an idiot you know? I may not say a lot, but that doesn't mean I'm stupid and the guys act like I am. Especially when it comes to her. So yeah, I loved her and I let her run all over me and treat them badly and what not, and I'm not saying it's ok, but when you love someone you don't want to believe all that shit. You want to believe they are who you think they are, that the good out weighs the bad and that's why you stick around. But the truth of it is, it doesn't. Last night was the first night I had seen her in months and the reason I did was because a part of me was missing her and I had to prove that she isn't right for me. And she isn't. She's still the same girl she was no matter what she says and I am well aware of that now. The reason I left you that night, well morning, was because she called me stranded somewhere and yes, I would have done that for anyone but still. I'm sorry if you took it as me ditching you. I truly did not mean it that way and I didn't plan to hurt your feelings in the process and I wanted to apologize forever ago, I just didn't know how and I'm not good at things like that and I swear to you it's not me trying to be a dick." He breathed in once he was done and she stood there in front of him trying to take in everything said.

"Don't worry, one of those stupid friends of yours defended you." She finally said and he have her a confused look, "Who?"

"John."

"What did he say?" He asked softly, shoving his hands in his pockets. It was like all the courage he had seconds ago had melted away and he was back to being normal Garrett.

"Just that you weren't actually an asshole you just weren't good at emotional things and that you would probably beat yourself up over it if you knew it bothered me."

"About right." He grumbled and she grinned, "I forgive you in case you're wondering."

A smile lit his face and be brushed his hair from his blue eyes, "So, we're friends again, right?"

"I don't recall either of us saying we weren't."

He chuckled, "Good point."

"So Garry, I'm sure you have some zombie movies we haven't watched yet." She replied, falling down onto his couch and he laughed, "I may."

As he fiddled with his movies she kicked off her shoes in order to get comfortable. She was honestly glad he was ok and that the Catherine girl wouldn't be sticking around. She didn't know how that would go that's for sure. Once be joined her on the couch, be glanced at her with a grin and she chuckled looking at the television.

"Also Garrett, to clear up things, you don't have to be around someone all the time to be with them. You must not know this but nerdy guys are the new in thing, and to top it off, you are in fact a very attractive guy." She spoke interrupting their movie and yet not darkng to look over at him. Sure he had called her pretty but he was also in a drunken state and here they were completely sober. It of course made her beyond nervous but she felt like he needed that. The room went quiet besides the movie and she crossed her arms trying to think of something to say. She couldn't handle her nerves and not knowing what he was thinking.

"And also it's freezing in here." She added and he actually spoke which made her jump slightly.

"Yeah, my friend keeps her house cold and I kind of dig it."

She grinned and she finally looked over at him. He smiled before boldly grabbing up her hand, not saying a word as he pulled her from the couch. He figured since she was so bold with him why shouldn't he be?

She of course let him lead her to his room and she couldn't help but chuckle softly as he eyed her waiting.

"Man, I'm so influential." She joked as she jumped onto his bed.

He chuckled as he placed his hand on the light switch.

"And pretty. Very pretty." He said before the whole room went black. She felt her cheeks flush and butterflies fill her stomach as she waited on him to reach the bed.

"Would you be against cuddling with me?" He asked as they both got settled on his bed. He was seriously killing her right now and she was so glad the lights were off so he couldn't see how much she was blushing.

"You want to cuddle me, Nickelsen?" She replied and he scoffed, "Are you going to let me, Quinn?"

He seemed a lot braver in the dark that was for sure and it made her like him even more. This was going no where fast.

"Maybe."

"Just maybe? I spilled my guts to you."

"I didn't tell you to."

"You didn't stop me either."

"I had no choice. You took like maybe one breath through the whole spill."

He laughed causing her to relax a little. That was before she felt him firmly place his hand on her side, pulling her closer to his body.

"So, what did you actually tell Catherine?" She asked once her head hit his chest.

"That she needed to stop calling me or John's mean hot yet not his girlfriend just neighbor would beat her up."

"You did not." She said laughing and he chuckled against her.

"Nah, I just told her to stop contacting me and lose my information because I'm not going through it again and that I was officially over it."

"I'm very proud of you, Gar." She mumbled, shutting her eyes, giving in to the feeling of him around her.

"Thanks." He whispered out, his own eyes closing as his fingers continued running through her long hair. He hated how much of him could get use to her sleeping in his bed.

Although the next morning Garrett woke up before her, he didn't dare move from the bed. He knew she would know he clearly didn't leave since it was his own house but, he knew the disappointment felt when you just wake up and the person beside you is gone. It was never pleasant and he didn't want her to feel that way even though they were just friends.

He sighed as he laid on his side, he was certain his hair was a mess but something told him she would fix it for him and that made his heart race. He knew it was silly. To have a crush on a girl he barely knew and yet who knew so much about him. He had to tell himself not to get carried away because the reality was he barely knew her and she could turn out to be a Catherine. Then again, a part of him hardly doubted that would happen. In the middle of his thoughts the girl woke and he focused on her as she rubbed her eyes.

"What time is it?" She whispered out.

"I'm not sure."

"How long have you been up?" She asked laying her head back on the pillow. Her eyes meeting his.

"I don't know. A bit."

"You could have waken me or left or something."

"Last time I left I got in trouble so..."

She narrowed her eyes at him and he chuckled, "I'm kidding. Just didn't want to get up. Is that a problem?"

She shook her head no and he smiled as he laid back on his pillow now facing her. And like predicted, the girl brought her hand to his hair, smoothing it down for him. No, this girl was not Catherine. He didn't need to be a rocket scientist to figure that one out.

"Thanks." He whispered out, fighting the urge to grab her and kiss her like he had replayed in his head for the past few seconds.

"I swear I don't know how you hair gets like that." She stated once she was done.

"I really don't either."

She giggled and he smiled at her, "We should get up."

"Why?"

"Well, you may not know this, but I'm pretty certain I was a chef in my past life."

Remi couldn't help but laugh, "Is that so?!"

"Oh yeah. I can make a mean omelette."

She chuckled, covering her mouth with her hand which caused his smile to widen.

"So you're going to cook us breakfast?" She asked and he nodded, "I am."

"Ok."

He chuckled as he climbed from the bed, holding his hand out when she didn't move.

"I have nothing but faith in your cooking, I mean you can already make a mean drink so..."

He laughed as he grabbed her hand, pulling her from the bed.

"All this faith is making me nervous." He stated not bothering to let her hand go as he led her to the kitchen.

"Oh now you don't think you are as good?"

"Oh no. I know I am. It's just a lot if pressure."

She chuckled as he let her go and she pulled herself up on the counter as she watched him gather ingredients.

"Stop staring at me."

She chuckled, "I'm not!"

"You are."

She grinned and he looked up at her with a smile, "Now prepare to be amazed."

"Oh I'm prepared."

The pair joked around as he cooked and once they were settled at the table with their food she couldn't help but look at him. He really was a good guy. She would never understand why he was in the situation he was in.

"I mean, I'm very impressed." She spoke causing him to laugh as she got up with her plate and went to grab his.

"What are you doing?" He asked as he grabbed her wrist, "Well since you cooked I figured I would clean this up."

"That's not how it works here." He spoke with a grin.

"And what do you mean by that?" She asked as he took her plate from her and she followed him to the sink.

"You're my guest. I'm not going to make you clean."

"But I offered."

"And that's sweet or you, but that's not how I operate." He stated as he focused on rinsing off the plate.

She grinned although his back was to her, "Fine. Have it your way. Your house, your rules."

He simply nodded and she leaned against the counter watching him until he was done. She really didn't want to leave him but she felt like it was necessary. They had spent all night together and now this.

"I should get going."

He turned to face her and she grinned softly at him as if that would make it seem nicer.

"Oh, um, yeah. Ok." He mumbled rubbing the back of his neck.

"Gotta get my shoes." She stated and he followed her into the living room and watched her slid on her toms. He was trying to find an excuse for her to stay but nothing really sounded ok to him so he just let it go.

"So, thanks for breakfast." She spoke placing her hand on her arm. His blue eyes met hers and he breathed in, "Thanks for keeping me company."

"Anytime." She spoke before pressing her lips to his cheek. He stood there unable to move as she left his house. He was beginning to think he had more than a crush on her.

Remi made it back to her house in time to see Kayla knocking on the door.

"I'm right here."

Kayla spun around to look at her and almost instantly her eyes narrowed, "In the same clothes from yesterday..."

"I stayed with Garrett. You guys wanted me to talk to him remember?"

"Well yeah but I didn't expect that nor did I expect you to just be getting home at noon."

she shrugged as she began to unlock the door, "Well, we had breakfast together. Did you know he can actually cool?" She asked and a smirk hit Kayla's face as she shut the door behind them.

"What?"

"You like him."

"I do not!"

"You so do. I can tell. The world's ending! You like a boy!"

"Ok, well I never recall saying I liked girls so..."

"Oh whatever so are you going to admit it or not?"

"I have nothing to admit to! And no I wouldn't simply because you would tell Nick, Nick would tell John and John would harass me for the rest of my life."

Kayla grinned, "Fine don't tell me. I know you do."

Remi rolled her eyes deciding not to argue anymore.

"So when are you seeing him again?"

A groan escaped the girls mouth, "We didn't discuss that."

"I'm sure he will text you soon."

"Please leave."

"No, John should be here soon."

She moaned loudly as she dramatically fell onto th couch, "No I can't handle him and you."

Kayla laughed, "it'll be fine. I think be just wants to know what's up with Garrett and that girl. And so do I so..."

Before reminds could open her mouth john walked in saying be bad arrived.

"Gossip time." John said excitingly falling beside her.

"Hey didn't you wear that yesterday?"

Remi whined into the couch and Kayla spoke, "She stayed with Garrett."

"What?! Did you two do it?" He asked and Kayla immediately laughed.

"No we didn't do it!"

"So what? You slept on the couch."

"No..."

"So you slept together with pillows between you?" He asked and she rolled her eyes, "No."

"Well fucking tell me!"

"Nothing happened. We just shared a bed."

"So no touching was involved?"

"I mean, well we kind of cuddled..."

"Garrett cuddled you?" They both asked at the same time and the pair looked at each other.

"Is it that big of a deal."

"Yes! I knew he liked you! Garrett doesn't cuddle anyone!" John said throwing his hands up and she groaned, "It's not that big of a deal. I mean, we talked about Catherine and he actually sort of opened up to me so, I don't know..."

"Well what did he say?"

"That they are never getting back together."

"Like ever?"

"Who are you? Taylor Swift?! Yeah, like ever!" She said getting annoyed by there million questions.

"So you like him right?" John asked and she glared at him and he continued, "because he likes you. I know Garrett. He likes you."

"He does not."

"Ok, live in denial."

She sighed, relaxing her head on the arm of the couch.

"So, why did he invite Catherine over then?"

"He just wanted to prove to himself that she could never change and he didn't feel anything for her."

"Mhm..."

"So basically you're just an ass."

"Hey! I didn't know all that! I just thought he was trying to get back with her and that shit can not happen."

She didn't bother to respond and he patted her knee, "but anyways, glad to hear all this. So Jareds having a gathering tonight. You coming? Garrett's going so..."

"What is up with you wanting me and Garrett together?!"

"Why not? I like him, I like you, I think you two would work well together."

"That's actually really sweet John Oh."

He grinned, "It happens."

"And yes, I'll be there. But for now I think I'm going to take a nap and then get ready later."

"Alright well, it starts at 8. So see you then." He said patting her head and she rolled her eyes as she moved from the couch and to her room. Although she hated to admit it, she hoped John was right that Garrett in fact had feelings for her. She honestly couldn't wait to see him already.
