You Have My Attention

Speak love.

"Can you handle him?" John asked laughing as Remi grabbed onto Garrett's arm, trying to get him to focus on walking out the door.

"Yeah, it's fine."

"John Oh!" Garrett shouted, clearly overly intoxicated now.

John laughed, "Oh man, it's been a long time since I've seen this Garrett."

"It's been a long time." Garrett responded agreeing with the guy. John was in a fit of giggles at his friend as he tried to help Remi get him outside.

"I'm just happy man." Garrett slurred out and John patted his shoulder as he helped him down the porch steps so Remi could try and find Garret's keys and phone he had somehow lost in the house.

"I know, dude. That's awesome."

"It is. Hey where's my girlfriend?" The drunken boy asked. His serious face now making John laugh.

John had to steady him so he wouldn't fall over beflre he spoke, "Went to get your phone, man."

Garrett nodded and let out a sigh, "I have a girlfriend and she's actually awesome. Can you believe that?"

John laughed, "It's hard to believe actually."

"I like her. Do you like her?"

"Yeah man, we all do."

Garrett grinned, "Good. I want to keep her."

"I want you to keep her too." He chuckled out as Remi met up with the pair, phone in hand.

"Hey you." Garrett spoke to the girl, a silly grin now on his face and John couldn't help but laugh once more, "Oh man, have fun with this tonight."

"I blame you."

"You wanted him to have friends!" He shouted back as he headed back inside. Remi chuckled grabbing Garrett's hand and leading him next door without much trouble. It was times like this she was thankful for living next door to John.

"I'm sorry I'm drunk. Fuck. Why am I drunk? Shit. I didn't mean to say that to you."

"Say what?" She asked laughing as she unlocked the door with one hand, afraid to let go of him.

"Bad words. My mom always told me it was impolite and I'm a gentleman."

She tried to hide her laughter as she pulled him inside and locked the door.

"That you are."

He nodded and she watched him as he surveyed the room while brushing back his now messy hair.

"Tired?" She asked him and he let out a sigh, "I wanna lay with you."

"Well come on."

She led him to her room and he fumbled out of his shoes and pulled everything off until he was left in his boxers.

"Man I'm hot. Is the air on?" He questioned and she laughed, "You know it is."

She helped him in bed before turning off the light before changing and laying down beside him.

"Remi?"

"Mhm?"

"Are you going to be mad at me in the morning?"

"No? Why would I be?"

Garrett shrugged, "I don't know, for getting drunk."

"No, I am not going to be mad at you."

"Oh..."

She stared at him, now able to see him a bit since her eyes had adjusted to the darkness. He was staring up at the ceiling as she laid on her side trying to figure out what he was thinking about. It was all too familiar.

"I'm glad I have you. I can't imagine not meeting you, not knowing you, not getting to spend so much time with you. It all seems foreign to think about. I can't remember what it was like before you and I don't want to. You just, I don't know, you're amazing, ok? I've never dated someone like you and I just want you to know that no matter how it may seem sometimes, I'm grateful for you. I wasn't the most open person before you but you seem to bring that out of me. You make me better honestly and that's how relationships should be you know? You should be with someone who makes you the best you and you do just that."

Remi's heart fluttered in her chest from his drunken words and she moved closer to him, wrapping her arm around his torso before burying her face against his shoulder.

"I'm just, I'm so, fuck I'm going to hate myself in the morning, but I'm just so in love with you. I hope that's ok." He breathed out quickly.

Remi felt her heart stop and the room grew quiet.

"I'm sorry. Don't remind me of this in the morning." He finally said. He knew sometimes silence wasn't always a good thing.

"Why not?" She asked raising up to look at him, "Don't mean it?"

He frowned, "I may be drunk, but I'm not stupid. Yes, I mean it. I just don't know if you want me to..."

"Then tell me again in the morning."

"Do you want me to?"

She nodded nervously and he grinned, "Then I will."

"Good. Goodnight Gar." She whispered before kissing his cheek and he wrapped her in his arms before falling asleep. Remi on the other hand spent the next several minutes going over and dissecting his words. A part of her hoped he meant it because as scared as she was to say it out loud, she was certain she felt the same way.

The next morning, as expected, Garrett woke up with a massive hangover.

"Why didn't you stop me?" He groaned as he covered his face with his arm, waiting for the medication to take effect and stop this horrible headache.

Remi chuckled beside him, "You were having fun."

He turned his head enough to look at her, squinting his eyes like he was out in the sun.

"Thanks for taking care of me."

She shrugged, "Not a big deal."

"It is." He whispered out, their eyes not bothering to move from each other. She grinned softly before leaning over him and kissing his forehead, "Let me go cook some breakfast and maybe by that time your headache will be gone."

He nodded watching her move from the bed. Of course last night was now replaying in his head. Sure he was drunk, but not to the point where he couldn't remember anything. In fact, he remembered everything including his last words to her.

While Remi cooked he forced himself from the bed to go shower and brush his teeth, hoping that would make him feel a bit better. Plus, he had some things he needed to sort out with himself.

Once he found himself in the kitchen, Remi turned to look at him as he messed with his wet hair.

"Feel better?"

"A little." He mumbled out and she ushered him to the table where she sat a plate of eggs in front of him.

"Aren't I usually the cook?" He asked with a smirk and she laughed, "Times are a changin'."

He smiled as she sat beside him and he watched her as she carefully poured orange juice into her cup. He did love her. He knew that part wasn't a lie. He felt it even more after last night's confession. He just needed to say it sober now for it to mean anything.

"I love you." He blurted out and she looked up at him as she dropped her fork onto her plate.

"I am so in love with you." He said shaking his head with a smile as he kept his eyes on the mess he was making of his eggs because of his nerves. He was going to blame the nerves for the words he couldn't seem to contain now that he had said what he felt.

"God, you're so perfect for me. I'm so crazy about you and how much you care about me and how all my friends like you."

Remi felt her cheeks heat up and he shrugged now nervous from his own words. He glanced over at her before picking up his cup, trying to act like he wasn't such a mess as he felt at the moment.

"I love you too, you know?" She finally got out and he lowered his cup slowly, his eyes now meeting hers.

"Yeah?" He asked too hopeful he was certain.

She nodded with a grin, "Of course."

He nodded with a smile as he looked back at his plate. He was too happy to even say anything at this point. The pair ate in a comfortable silence and he helped her clean up once they were done.

"Hey..." He spoke, grabbing her arm before she walked from the kitchen.

She spun around to face him and he pulled her close before kissing her like he had been wanting to since his confession.

"Have plans today?" He asked and she shrugged unable to remember now that he was kissing her.

"Spend the day with me?"

She nodded and he brushed a strand of her hair behind her ear before kissing her forehead.

"Good, because John texted me and said they are having a pool party at Jared's house."

She nodded once more and he pecked her lips, "I'll have to run to my house. Wanna grab your things and go with me?"

"Depends. The last time I was there wasn't so great. Is Catherine going to greet us at the door?" She joked and he shot her a look as he stepped back from her.

"I'm kidding." She replied through her laughter.

"You can stay here. And it was going so well, Rem. You ruined it!" He shouted the last part as he headed to her room to grab his shoes.

She laughed, chasing after him down the all.

"Gar!" She whined throwing her arms around him from behind as he came to a stop in the doorway of her room.

"I love you." She whispered out causing him to shiver. He liked hearing it from her for some reason.

"Don't leave." She mumbled into his shirt, not daring to let go of him. She knew him well enough to know he would cave.

"Get ready so we can go." He stated, bringing her hand that rested on his torso to his lips before she let go of him.

He sat on her bed as he watched her gather up some things before heading to the bathroom. He fell back onto the pillow with a sigh as a smile hit his lips. Was it possible to be as happy as he was? It felt all new to him. It had been so long.

"Are you falling asleep?" He heard and looked over to see the girl apparently ready to go since she was now decked out in shorts and a tank top.

A chuckle left his lips, "No, just thinking. You ready?"

She nodded and he moved from the bed.

"Did you being a swim suit?"

"No, I'm going to swim naked."

A chuckle left his lips knowing very well that was sarcasm.

"I'm going to be really pissed if the first time I see you naked is when twenty of my friends see you naked too."

She couldn't help but laugh, "Don't worry. I have one on now. All is right in the world."

He chuckled as he led her out to the car, "Good to know."

"I cannot stay out too late though. I have work in the morning and I know how you guys operate." She said pointing at him like that would make him take it more serious.

Garrett chuckled as he started the car, "I promise to have you home at a decent hour."

"Until you get wasted."

Garrett groaned, "Never going to happen again."

She giggled, "I'm sure."

"Maybe you should get wasted so you can tell me all your secrets."

"Ha! Not going to happen."

He laughed as they pulled into the driveway of his place. It didn't take him long to gather his things and he got Remi to text John to tell them they were on their way since he was blowing up Garrett's phone.

"He's impatient." She said through her laughter as she handed Garrett his phone back.

"What's sad is he probably is being impatient because he wants you there. The friendship is an odd one I must say."

"It is, but opposites attract. I love him. It's getting pretty serious." She said sarcastically and he scoffed, "Oh I see how it is. Well, good luck getting him to love you back. He has commitment issues."

"Oh no, he loves me. You'll find out today."

Garrett rolled his eyes although a smile lined his lips. It was honestly refreshing to be able to actually have a girl who liked his friends and who they liked just as much. It took it's toll on him when he dated someone he couldn't bring around.

"John Oh!" Remi shouted once they entered the house as the boy was coming from the kitchen.

"Well hello." He spoke in his smooth manner as he threw his arm over her shoulders.

"Oh hey to you too." Garrett stated and john scoffed, "I have to be nicer to her. She lives next door to me. She could burn my house down."

Remi laughed as they all stepped out into the back yard.

"She told me you two love each other and it's getting serious."

John chuckled as he took a drink of his beer, "She's right, man. Nothing but love here. Opposites attract."

"That's what I said!" Remi shouted and the pair high fived as Garrett stared at them like they were aliens.

"This is now disturbing and I'm wondering if I should be concerned with this."

"Well, are you?" John asked and Garrett shrugged, "Not really, no."

"You would rather your girlfriend have a secret relationship with one of us than hate us, huh?" John joked and Remi laughed from beside him.

"No, sadly I trust you idiots."

"Good answer." John said raising his beer.

"And you don't trust me?" Remi asked placing her hand on her hip.

"Hey, you can never trust a girl, Remi. Even cool girls like you."

Remi's mouth dropped open, "Excuse me?! Why not?!"

"Girls are girls. They lie and deceive and manipulate. It's a cruel world out there!"

Garrett was now laughing as Remi glared at John, "John, I bet my house on the fact that if Garrett and me didn't like each other you would date me."

John scoffed, "Highly unlikely."

"Highly likely. I'm charming and witty and I've seen the girls you've so called dated so I'll say better looking too."

"I would just sleep with you."

"Doubt it."

"I don't date."

"I wish I could go back and prove this point."

"Just because you're cool means nothing."

"It means everything."

"Ok guys. Settle down. Look, you're probably right, he would date you because well he would. I don't care what he says. But let's face reality here. It's not going to happen. You're my girlfriend. I'm better than him and here we are." Garrett joked and the three laughed.

"Believe what you want to!" John said patting her head before leaving the two alone.

"See, he loves me." She stated and be laughed placing his arms around her waist, "Sadly, I think you're right."

She chuckled and he kissed her before being interrupted.

"Remi!" Pat yelled from the pool and she noticed Kayla and Nick sitting not too far from her. She told Garrett she would be back and walked over to the pair.

"I'm sorry do we know each other?" Kayla asked and Remi rolled her eyes, "Oh shut up. I literally saw you a few days ago."

"So?!"

Remi sat beside the girl, sticking her feet into the water. She wasn't going to deny her lack of communication with everyone lately, but she wasn't going to apologize either. She liked spending time with Garrett.

"So, I hear you're with Gar." Nick said with a smile and she chuckled, "Yeah, I am."

"Awesome. You two oddly fit together. Didn't think so at the beginning but seeing you two together I'm like yeah, how could they not?"

Kayla rolled her eyes, "Like he knows best."

Remi laughed at the look Nick shot his girlfriend.

"Thanks, Nick."

"I'm honestly happy for you." Kayla stated, "and for him. Now he can hang out with us while having a girlfriend! It's an amazing thing!"

"Yeah, so I hear." She replied with a smile as her eyes found Garrett who was now in swim trunks and sunglasses. He was laughing with Jared and she couldn't knock the smile from her face. Yeah, she was happy and it made it better that everyone was happy about them being together. This was the beginning of something great.
