You Have My Attention

We all have secrets.

Three days had past and she had yet to see or hear from Garrett and it was making her a bit mad. Sure, they were just friends but it was now becoming rude to say the least. Although she hadn't tried to contact him but, then again she wasn't the one who left without saying goodbye. She was not going to allow herself to over think it.

"John." She whined and he groaned as she fell onto his lap.

"What now?" He asked slinking his arm around her in order to be able to still drink his beer. The partying with these guys never ended and some how she always got sucked into every party so here she was at Kennedy's house this time and she now wished she wasn't here. The alcohol mixed with her feelings wasn't doing anything but making her think more of Garrett.

"You know, if I was trying, you'd really be killing my game."

"Oh please. I'm prettier than anyone here so..." She teased and he laughed, "Someone's conceited!"

She laughed, "I've been around you too long."

"Ouch! By the way, you know Garrett's coming right?" He asked seriously and she nodded, "So?"

He narrowed his eyes at her and she sighed, "Ok! I know, but that's fine. It's no big deal."

"Righttt."

She glared at him and he was about to speak until his eyes drifted off behind her. She immediately turned around to see what he was looking out only to see Garrett walking in with some girl.

"What in the fuck." He mumbled, his face seeming to harden as he watched the two walk in.

"What the fuck is this?" Pat asked coming up beside them.

"Why is everyone saying fuck?" She questioned and John didn't even crack a smile which now made her even more concerned.

"Dude. The fuck is going on?" Kennedy asked joining them and she groaned as she gave up and just continued drinking.

Sure, Remi wasn't going to lie and say seeing him walk in with a girl didn't make her a bit sad because it in fact did. She knew he didn't like her like that but, a part of her hoped he did. Then again, everyone had convinced her she had. From here on out, she was just going to continue pretending like she didn't care. She didn't want anyone including him to think she was hurt about it.

"Hey guys." Garrett spoke as he made his way to them. All three of the boys along with Jared now stood there glaring at him.

"What?"

"Well, I can see this is serious so I'm going to go get another drink and let you guys have a moment." Remi stated as she moved from John's lap earning a look from Garrett which she tried to avoid. She definitely did not want to be in the middle of whatever was about to go down.

"Dammit, You really have got to quit wearing those fucking shorts. I can't concentrate!" John said and she flipped him off as she continued to the kitchen. Of course she wanted to know what was being said but she also knew John would fill her in later so she wasn't too concerned.

Going into the kitchen turned into a mistake though once she noticed the girl Garrett had came with making a drink. She really hoped Kayla would get there soon. She was sure the girl knew more about this then she did.

"Oh hey. Are you John's girlfriend?" The girl asked and she knew she couldn't walk away without be rude.

"Oh no. We're just friends. Are you with Garrett?" She asked as she poured more liquor into her cup than was probably recommended, but between this girl and the issue going on in the living room she couldn't handle much more. Drinking was the only option.

"No. Well I mean, maybe. I don't know. We've dated before, but we've been apart for a year or so and so yeah, I don't know." She said laughing and Remi had to force a smile, "Gotcha."

"I'm Catherine by the way."

"Remi. Nice to meet you. I should get back to John though before he comes after me." She joked with a smile and the girl laughed as she walked away. Remi breathed in once outside the kitchen. She could not believe everything this night was turning out to be.

"Yeah well you're officially an idiot. So congratulations. Maybe this time, she will at least give you a heads up before she cheats or whatever." John spat out at Garrett and she now didn't want to even walk over there. She just stood there downing her drink hoping to numb some of the feelings she was having. She didn't know where to go or what to say. She wasn't good at things like this. She was sarcastic for a reason. That reason being because she couldn't handle emotional stuff very well.

Once it seemed ok to approach she sat her empty drink down and walked over grabbing John's hand hoping to get him away from the now sad looking guy.

"Alright, well this has been fun, but we're going to go." She stated even though John wasn't taking his eyes off Garrett.

"John..." She mumbled tugging on his hand.

"No. We aren't fucking going anywhere and this is not ruining all of our nights. You go." He said to Garrett and the boy raised his eyebrow.

"Leave. Take the slut with you. You can stay but I know if we make her leave you will follow her like a lost puppy so I'll save you the embarrassment and kick you out too."

"This isn't your house."

"Do you hear Kennedy objecting?" He questioned and Remi couldn't even look at Garrett right now simply because she knew she would feel bad for him.

"Seriously?" Garrett asked glancing over at Kennedy.

"Dude, we told you how we felt about her. She's a shitty person and we told you if this happened again we wouldn't be nice about it. Sorry."

"Pat! Come on."

Pat cleared his throat, "No. She's bad for you dude. You need to realize that."

"Oh come on. Remi, back me up here." He grumbled trying to find anyone to have his back at this point.

John scoffed, "I'm sure she can gather the whole story from just tonight and even if she wanted to back you up I doubt she would since you just ditched her the other night."

"John." She hissed which he ignored. She bravely looked up at the boy who now looked hurt and confused even more so than earlier.

"Remi, I...."

"Dude. Leave already! You're pissing me off!" John chimed in loudly. Remi didn't even know John possessed such anger. He was always so laid back, him acting this way definitely took her off guard.

Remi still held onto John's hand as she bit her bottom lip unable to watch Garrett stomp off to get the girl and leave just as quickly as he arrived.

"Jackass." John grumbled and she looked up at him.

"Not in the least bit mean, huh?" She questioned.

He scoffed, "You have no idea what had happened between them, Remi."

She didn't bother to speak and he sighed, "Sorry, I'm just pissed off about this."

"No, it's ok."

"I'm not in the mood to be here anymore."

"Then why did you kick Garrett out?"

"He didn't deserve to be here."

She chuckled and tugged on his hand, "Come on. Let's go for a walk and talk."

He finished his drink and didn't bother telling anyone goodbye as he walked out with the girl.

"That girl is just bad news." John grumbled after several minutes of walking. She figured if she kept quiet he would eventually spill everything out.

"Like, it takes a lot for me to say someone is a bad person but she is. All she ever did was hurt him and he stuck with her for five years. And here we are thinking it's officially over and that he has a thing for you, but apparently he left you the next morning because she called him needing help for something and that is that."

"I met her in the kitchen earlier. She was nice..."

"Yeah. She's good at being nice to your face." He grumbled, "It's how she's always been. She hates us. Don't let her fool you. One time Garrett didn't speak to us for a week because of her. She didn't like him hanging out with us. It was seriously ridiculous. I've never wished bad things upon a girl until then."

Remi nodded and he looked over at her, "Garrett's not insecure or anything, don't think that, he just, he wants to please everyone. Especially someone he loves you know? He's really bad about that actually. It's not a bad thing I assume but when it makes himself unhappy it kind of is."

"I get it and I mean, plus, who could hate you?!" She asked dramatically and John rolled his eyes all the while a smile lined his lips, "You're an asshole."

She couldn't help but laugh, "I'm kidding! Sort of. I mean, I could see someone hating you but no one could hate Pat so she must be evil."

John shook his head with laughter, "You're ridiculous."

"Maybe so, but I was thinking, maybe I should talk to him."

John scoffed, "That helping is slim to none."

"Yeah but I feel like someone has to, and you guys clearly can't talk to him in a calm manner. I mean, I'm sure there's a reason why he is hanging out with her. You guys attacked him before he could even speak!"

"We did..."

"You did." She cut him off and he shot her a look, "Fine, talk to him and when you find out he's an idiot don't say I wasn't right!"

She grinned and bumped into him on purpose, "whatever you say, O'Callaghan. I got this."

At least she hoped she did.

Once John and her returned from their walk, they decided to just head home. John was now sober and Remi was now tired so it seemed like a good idea.

"So when are you going to talk to him?" John asked as he walked her across the lawn to her porch.

"I don't know, I guess I'll text him now and see if he can meet tomorrow."

"Catherine will love that if she's around." He snickered and she rolled her eyes as she stepped to the door.

"Yeah, well. Who cares at this point?"

His smile widened as he watched her unlock the door and open it.

"Alright, well, text me and let me know what he says Remi Quinn."

"I will John O'Callaghan."

A chuckle escaped his lips, "Goodnight." He spoke, messing up her hair and she shoved him lightly, "Goodnight, jerk."

He laughed his way off the porch and she waited until he got to his door before locking herself in her house.

She dropped herself onto the couch as she held onto her phone, staring at the blank text she had yet to send to Garrett. She really didn't know how this would play out, but she felt like she had to help out in some way. Then again, maybe she was just hoping he had some logical excuse that would make herself feel better.

'Hey, can we meet up tomorrow?'

She realized how lame it sounded after she hit send and she sighed as she relaxed her head on the couch. What she didn't expect though was a response so quickly and once her phone went off she immediately sat up.

'I would like that.'

He would? She stared at the simple text before letting out a sigh. Clearly it wasn't going to be as hard as she prepared for.
