Holding Onto Nothing

Meaningless Talk

I blink a few times. "Did you just say this a my new home?" I ask to make sure I heard him correctly.
"I can't have you living with a slimeball, and you're like twenty one, so it's all--"
"I'm eighteen."
Oli stares at me like I'm crazy. "You're lying."
"Nope..." I swing back and forth, and look at the ground, "I tend to get that I look older, so don't worry about it."
"You're stunning, to say the least."
I cringe.
"What?"
"Don't compliment me, it aggravates me to know that you just invited me to stay here and you're already making me uncomfortable."
"I'm sorry, love, didn't mean to. That's the last thin' I want ya to feel."
I look up into his eyes, all I see is sincerity. You don't see that too often anymore. "Why should I move in?"
"Too get away from that man, I don't like the thought of him sneakin' in at night."
"You do realize that I just tried to rob you, right?"
"Well aware of that."
He's either really nice, or incredibly stupid and irresponsible. "Just makin' sure."
"So whatcha say, Lol? You wanna stay at the party house?"
I think for a moment. There are perks to having a stable place to live, and I feel somewhat confident that he is as sincere as he is trying to come off across. So why hesitate? "I'd love to, actually."
"It's settled, in the mornin' we'll get your things and come 'ere."
I nod. "Okay..."
"Ya hesitant?"
"Yep."
"Good, you're human, you should be."
He flashes me a smile and I instantly feel butterflies stir in my stomach. It's relatively impossible for this to happen. What makes him worth these butterflies anyway?
He gave you a place to stay.
True. Wait, whoa. Am I talking to myself?
Yes, yes I am.
I've lost it.
Damn.
"So do you live by yourself?" I ask as my attempt to make small talk.
"Nope, got my brotha and Matt with me as well. Living in this house alone would be awful."
I smile, "Hey, at least you have people around you."
He teeters his head back and forth. "Alone time would be nice sometimes, but for the most part, I guess you're right."
"So, how do you manage to afford this place, if you don't mind me asking."
"Don't mind at all, but you'd have figured it out sooner or later," Oli chuckles, "I'm in a band, ya see, and we're kinda a big deal."
"Oh are y'all?"
"Yes, yes we are."
"And what's your name?"
"I'm Oli, but we've been over this before, love."
I roll my eyes and nudge him gently, "The band name, ya wanker."
He smirks, "I like ya, Yank, and we're called Bring Me The Horizon."
My mouth hangs open a little.
"What?"
"You're kidding me."
"Is that a bad thing? To be in the band?"
I shake my head. Holy shit...I'm in the home of Oliver Sykes...I'm going to be staying with members of Bring Me The Horizon. Holy--
Don't fan girl, Lolita, you'll look insane.
I know, I know...I'm just. AHH!
"You okay there, love?"
I blink coming back to reality. "Sorry, just a little shocked. I actually listen to your band, almost religiously."
"Well that's good, at least you like us."
I laugh, "Id be stupid not to like y'all, but I don't know how happy Matt's gonna be about me being here."
"Why?"
"I may or may not have blew him off on the dance floor to steal shit."
Oli practically falls to the ground from laughing so hard. I just stare at him, a laugh trying to escape my lips.
"Oli?"
"Hm?" He asks wiping tears from his eyes.
"Go back to your party."
"Nah, I'm good up here."
"You're one hell of a host."
"I'm entertaining a pretty lady, I'm sure that's what a good host does."
"Show me where I can sleep, and go have fun."
"Damn, you know whatcha want don't you?"
"I do, anyways, I would've been at home sleeping had you not caught me."
"And lucky us I did." He stares intently into my eyes, the butterflies swarm inside of be again. There is no way he is as sincere as he is looking. There can't be. "You'll just stay in this room, have a nice night, the people should be gone soon."
He goes to walk out of the room, but I stop him. "Who's room is this?"
Okie turns and winks. "Can't tell ya that, love, you'll insist that they sleep here in your place and you get the couch. I'm not gonna let that happen. Goodnight, Lolita."
"Night, Oli."
He walks out and closes the door behind him. I fall into the bed and curl up in a ball. I never thought I'd meet him, let alone be in the same house as him...Karma must be catching up with me...
And that means that this will come to an end.
