Love Me

.002

6 years later

The girl sat up in the bed as a loud scream echoed through the house. It wasn’t a scared scream, more like a frustrated scream. Someone was pissed off. This wasn’t an unusual thing in this house. Living with someone who was in charge over a huge amount of people was difficult sometimes. New people joined the group and disliked the rules, which often ended in them throwing a tantrum. Most of the new people were teenagers, maybe in age between 15 and 16, and they did not have their hormones in control. Madison had been exactly the same, but thankfully she had grown up. Now, 20 years old, she was used to the rules considering her “job”. If hitting people with arrows and making them fall in love with the first person that caught their eyes even was considered as a job. But the rules were simple and not hard to follow. In the hallway there was a small painting with all the rules written down.

1. Do NOT kill anyone.

2. Follow orders. Do not question orders.

3. Never go against your brothers and sisters. (You know what happened to Lucifer, and I have the right to do the same thing to each one of you)
-Chloe

Chloe was the one who had written the rules down, and also the one who was in charge over one specific group of angels. That group consisted of about slightly more than a hundred angels. Chloe had a hard time making sure everyone did as they were told. That’s why she had some close friends who helped her out with everything. Angels were divided into groups. The big, well-known angels like Michael, Gabriel etc. didn’t watch over the small angels, like Madison, that no one knew of. Madison didn’t even consider herself an angel. If it weren’t for the wings, she wouldn’t even be close to being an angel. All she did all day was making people in New York fall in love. She was an angel of love, given the amazing power of who’s going to fall in love with who. Of course, she wasn’t the only angel of love. Love had to be happening all over the world, not just in New York.

Chloe was the opposite of Madison. She was an angel of hate, making people hate each other. It seemed weird but in all honestly, hate was needed for the world to go around. There were so many angels, too many to count.

Madison got out from the secure and comfortable place beneath the covers in her soft bed. She crossed her arms, covering her breasts, just in case if anyone made the decision to come in without knocking. After putting on the first bra she could find, a pair of dark, ripped denim shorts and a loose tank she made her way downstairs. The wings made it difficult to wear any shirt except tank tops. Hoodies wasn’t even an option.

“Good morning.”, Chloe greeted her as soon as she stepped into the kitchen. The brunette woman was sitting by the counter, drinking a cup of coffee. See, the kind of angels that Madison, Chloe and 99 percent of all the existing angels were, lived like human beings, with a few exceptions. They had wings, which humans definitely didn’t have, and they had their powers. Apart from that, they lived like normal people, eating, sleeping, house chores and so on.

“Good morning.”, Madison mumbled. “I’m gonna head out already.”

“Do that.”, Chloe smiled. Madison waved quickly before making her way out of the huge flat and downtown. Before she stepped out on the street she grabbed the silver colored ring from her necklace and put it on. The ring was something every angel owned. It made them invisible to the world around them. As long as they wore the ring, no human could see them. Other angels could see them though. Madison hated the fact that she could never hide from everyone. Angels would always see her. She enjoyed being alone. Ever since she ran away from home she had become some kind of lonewolf, only opening up to people that she truly liked. The only one being Chloe.

Before actually starting to work, she made her usual way downtown to a company called “Busted”. They worked with computer viruses and spam and such. Basically, ways to make the internet safer in every kind of way. As she reached the glass building where the company was located, a tiny smile formed on her lips. The smile grew bigger when she saw the brunette girl who was sitting by the reception disc in the entrance of the building. The girl looked the same, just a tiny bit older. But she still had the same bright blue eyes and high cheek bones. Beatrice was as beautiful as she was when she was 16.

Madison used to stop by a couple of days a week to check up on her sister. Even if she was still a tiny bit mad for Beatrice freaking out on her all those years ago, she couldn’t blame her. Every time she saw her sister smiling in the reception disc, or sometimes when she almost bumped into her and her boyfriend on the street, she felt warm inside. Because even though Madison was a freak, her sister had still succeeded to get somewhere in life. But not even Madison could ignore the small sting of jealousy that she felt when she saw Beatrice as well. She wanted to be human too, and have a regular job and a nice man that she could kiss when she wanted to.

As she walked out of the building, she walked right back into reality. She would never have what her sister had, and she wasn’t sure if she was okay with that. A cute girl in her own age caught her eye on the other side of the street. The girl had blonde hair, darker than Madison’s blonde color, and she didn’t stand out at all from the rest of the crowd. But she had succeeded to catch Madison’s eye. The angel grabbed her bow and loaded it with one of her arrows. Her lips brushed against the string as she pulled it back with all her strength, then she let it go. The arrow hit the girl on the other side of the street in her upper arm, turning into gold dust as soon as it touched the girl’s skin. Madison watched as the girl bumped into a guy and she looked at him, her eyes filled with love. Then she kissed him. Madison’s lips turned into a small smile. If she couldn’t have happiness, she could at least give it to someone else.

The rest of the day went on the same way it had started. Several arrows was shot throughout the day, but her favorite of the day was a lonely guy who she had made falling in love with a pretty girl. He had been sitting in the harbor, looking lonely, reading a paperback book. Madison could clearly see the sadness and loneliness in his eyes and therefore made the decision that it was his lucky day. The arrow hit him on the left side of his head, and he immediately stood up, looking at his surroundings confused, before he grabbed a pretty girl and kissed her. Madison loved the warm feeling inside of her when she could see the smile on the guy’s face.

Now, the sun was setting over the city. Families had just gotten inside their homes to spend a couple of hours with their loved ones before going to bed, and the party animals had just woken up, ready for another night of wild clubbing. And that was exactly what Madison needed. A wild night out. The past weeks had been rough on her, making her even more depressed and making her want a normal life more than she had wanted before. A night out clubbing was rather normal, and therefore she decided to spend her night at a new club.

Clubbing was fairly hard with the wings. She never went to the same club twice, because she always used the same excuse. As she made her way down the street, she found a new club that caught her eye. Club Tequila. To make sure nobody saw her, she walked into a small alley and took off the ring before putting it on the secure chain around her neck. The bow and the arrows were placed behind a container, and she made a mental note to herself to not forget those later. Then she put on a bright smile and walked to the queue. People gave her weird looks, but she just smiled. “What? It’s a bachelorette party tonight, can’t I dress up a little?”, she yelled to all the people whose eyes were on the two big wings on her back. Everyone fell for the excuse, as usual. Madison couldn’t help but to feel a little bit proud over herself for being smart. I mean, everyone dressed up weirdly for bachelorette parties, so that was the perfect excuse. After all, you could find angel wings to put on in every single costume store around town.

After surely 30 minutes she was allowed to walk into the club. She didn’t want to dance, not yet. She needed a few drinks before her party mode was turned on. As she walked up to the bar, she couldn’t help but to feel the slight sting of pain when people bumped into, or pinched her wings. She tried to ignore it, due to the fact that no one knew they were real. When she reached the dark brown bar disc she yelled “one rum and coke” without even looking at the bartender. Her eyes scanned over the club. Modern interior, drunk people, horny people who ground against each other. A perfect night.

“Yeh, one rum and coke for ya’”, a british accent spoke behind her. Madison turned back to the bar and met a pair of the most beautiful blue eyes she had even seen. They were mesmerizing, just like his whole face. If Madison didn’t know better, she would assume he was an angel. He had perfect features. Madison was brought back to reality when she felt something wet all over her pants and something dripping down her slender legs.

“Shit, I’m so sorry.”, the british bartender said. And that was when Madison noticed the shattered glass between her feet and the rum mixed with coke all over her shorts and her legs.
