The Time I Left Forever

The skies were beautiful and I ran along the path we had followed. I had absolutely no idea why we were here or why we stopped here. Soon, we came across a lonely couple who were desperately hoping for a child.
"I will now tell you why we’re here." Dan said. But he didn’t have to, I had already pieced the puzzle together. He was giving me to this couple.
"No… No… I don’t want to live with these strangers!" I screeched as he took my tiny hand and kissed my forehead as he hugged me.
"i’m sorry, sweetheart, but this couple desperately wants a child. I don’t want to leave you." Dan’s voice had calmed me a bit but I was still upset.
"Then don’t leave me!"
"But I must. I’m sorry."
He kissed my forehead one last time and said goodbye. The couple took my tiny hands as I looked back at him waving at me.
I cried for a fortnight, hoping he’d realize he had made a mistake and come back for me. He never came. I hardly ate, I never played with the other children, and I never talked.
