Memories From a Dead Girl

Thirty

When I got the call from the police that Olivia had been murdered, I threw up. I mean, how do you react to news that your sister has been killed? You cry, heavily, and you throw up. You break things, then you leave that destruction behind.

They told me it was Austin, and I said they were mistaken, because my friend Austin would never hurt anyone, let alone his girlfriend. I knew how he felt about her, and I knew he would sooner die than cause her any sort of pain.

Maybe that's what was supposed to happen. Maybe Olivia was just in the wrong place at the wrong time and she wasn't meant to die.

Maybe Austin was.
