"Someone is here to see you," an officer said. He sounded disgusted. He took Austin by the arm and walked him down the hall into a small room.

I kept up with them, but only barely, and when I entered the room at Austin's heels, I stopped in my tracks.

There was a woman sitting at one of the tables. Her head was bent, but I knew who she was by her long, black hair. Austin sat across from her, and she lifted her eyes to meet him. I could tell that she was devastated, angry.

"Why?"

It was her only question.

But Austin was quiet for a moment. Then, when he spoke, I couldn't believe my ears.

"I didn't kill her."
