Shutting the bedroom door behind me, I expected Austin to come after me. When he didn't, I felt a twinge of anger. But soon it was replaced by relief.

I walked into the living room and sat at the small table that hosted the Ouija board. I stared at the board for a long time, it seemed, before I decided to put my hand on the piece. I was unsure it would work with one person, but I had to try.

I watched Chloe as she came into the room and sat down in front of the board. I didn't have to be a mind reader to know that she was skeptical about this working with only a single participant. Slowly, I sat down opposite her, and as she reached for the planchette, I touched her hand.

Then everything went black.
