...because Elena is sick, and Donna won't have her mother alone in a time of need = Gerard and Mikey shucked off to some weird town where they don't know anyone, they're away from their friends, and the locals are all weirdos... Not to mention the cute boy that hangs out in Elena's attic sometimes, and the strange things that seem to be happening to Gerard (which only ever make people think he's crazy).
